Yeah, conservatively speaking, it's top-2. So, it only stands to reason that the regular season champ of a top-2 conference with the OOC résumé we have should be given preferential treatment over a team that MIGHT win the 7th best conference with a worse overall résumé.

Splitting hairs between Big 12 and SEC ..

BTW The Mountain West conference could get 6 or 7 in Big Dance not too shabby..

According to Team Rankings, the gap between 2 (SEC) and 3 (Big 10) is narrower than the gap between 1 (Big 12) and 2. But yeah, there isn't one dominant conference, this year.

Mountain West is the 4th best this year. Big time for them! 6 teams is probably their limit as I just don't see UNLV doing enough to get in unless they manage to win the MWC tournament. They have 3 Q4 losses that are going to sink them. Their NET is currently 76.

Mountain West tournament is in Vegas so yeah 7 could happen if UNLV pulls off a tournament Championship..

Don’t always agree with Lunardi, but I do agree with this: he said pretty much no chance that Iowa State gets a 1 seed due to their horrific non conference schedule, which was one of the worst in the nation. They played 3 power conference teams, with the best by far being Texas A&M, and lost 2 of those. As good as they are, you can’t reward that with a 1 seed.

With that said, there are 3 teams that could get the West 1 seed IMO. Tennessee is in the driver’s seat. If they falter, Arizona could jump back in. If UNC wins at Duke, they could creep back in too should the 2 teams above them lose. I stand by my stance that if we win our next 2 games we will be a 1 seed.

I see this like an MLB division race coming down the stretch. We have a half-game lead over Arizona and our magic number is one - meaning a Tennessee win or an Arizona loss clinches the #1 seed for us.

I think my favorite part about this is that he misspelled Michigan St. With all the resources he must have at ESPN, he (or someone) is manually typing in teams into this bracket?

He also has 3 pods in Pittsburgh and only 1 in Brooklyn, which happens in like every other bracket he publishes it seems.

I would be disappointed to not get a #1 seed (assuming we take care of business). However, we do need to bear in mind that the Final Four is in Phoenix!
So, the committee steering the seeding to give a favorable path to an Arizona team ... does not seem unlikely to me. It might be highly unethical, but I am sorry to admit that I see the committee as slanted (biased) and ethically challenged. Just so we are crystal clear. I do not mean that to say they give the cats the 1 seed, I mean that to say that their path to the final four will be 'easier' on the looks of it.
I would love to see an AI based bracket. Just for the fun of it. If you know of one ... please share!!!

The whole thing about this dumb argument with whether or not AZ deserves the final 1-seed is that AZ is going to be in the West regardless. It’s not like TN being the 1-seed would impact the location for AZ in the bracket.

IMO, feels like a pretty easy decision to give TN the 1-seed and credit them for the better overall season than AZ. It doesn’t screw AZ in any way and if the Committee really feels that concerned about AZ’s path just give them a softer 3-seed.

His bracket updates on Twitter seem rushed, with quite a few grammatical errors and the numbers for overall seeds sometimes off / duplicated for different teams.

I wouldn’t be surprised if his numbers for determining seeding are slightly off too.

Same. I think we are the 4th best resume in the country, but I think the committee is going to be looking for a reason to not give it to us. We have to make sure that they have no choice by winning today.
