He's a great coach. But sometimes you just miss on someone you want and go with what you got. So, I guess in that sense, going with what you got is a backup plan. Doesn't mean he has someone else lined up if Chaz goes elsewhere. It's okay to admit Rick Barnes is human. Damn. Some of y'all get mad at weird things. I've sung CRB's praises, I just don't put him on the same pedal stool y'all do and worship him as infallible.Yeah the guy that has five 25-win seasons out of the past 7 years doesn’t always have a plan. Yeah, ok
Yeah, I am sure the idiots that throughout this process insisted that if we did not get him Coach is at fault or kid is shiftless, will pivot to some other negative variant about this player regardless of available fact sets. It is a disease. EEYOREITIS I think it is called. Seems to be a progressive disease, but never fatal.I just hope Lanier is worth all the hoopla. There's no guarantees he will be great or not great either.
Actually, it's not a disease. They've narrowed it down to a genetic abnormality or the result of long term exposure to aluminum. I'm living proof that it's the latter.Yeah, I am sure the idiots that throughout this process insisted that if we did not get him Coach is at fault or kid is shiftless, will pivot to some other negative variant about this player regardless of available fact sets. I don’t worship him but he is the best coach since Ray Mears and the results show it. How many people expected Grant Williams to be a 2x SEC POY and Consensus AA whenever he was recruited, or that Dalton Knecht would be SEC POY and 2nd in national POY voting, or that he could make Kevin Punter into a 20 point scorer? He is human and he won’t always have us in the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 but some people act like our basketball program is a blue blood or something. I will always trust his recruiting and his decision making. No one is ever going to land all of their targets. Not even the Kansas, UNC, Duke, Kentucky, etc. lands all of their targets. It’s part of recruiting. He is going to miss out on guys or guys are going to transfer out of the program purely for financial reasons and that is out of his control. But he back filled this class with better players than the ones that transferred out. He comes through time and time again yet people still find something to complain about. He's a great coach. Yes, pedal stool was intentional. IYKYK
I don’t know where the roster will end up, but it isn’t a free lunch to add bodies. So we may possibly maybe get Lanier. Maybe. Cool. What about the other 2-3 spots? Dumb to intentionally limit your depth.
I've said he's the best coach we've ever had. Doesn't mean we can't have an honest conversation that there really isn't a backup plan if we miss on Chaz. I still want the kid, but based on what has been reported, he lied to our staff about how he would handle this. Now, if he picks elsewhere, we scramble for someone else to take that spot. Will we get someone? Probably. Will they be of the same quality? Probably not. Again, we wanted Yuri Collins. We got Tyreke Key. I saw Key as settling, not really a backup plan. But hell, this could all be for naught. Chaz could still pick us. And if he doesn't, it's far more of an indictment on his character than it is our staff's. They took a kid at his word. Unfortunately, a lot of staffs get screwed that way.I don’t worship him but he is the best coach since Ray Mears and the results show it. I think his graduation was within the last day or two, so I sound think pretty soon now that he has graduated.@bleedingTNorange I apologize if you answered this 34747 times, but do you know when Dubar is going to be on campus.
Seen where Okpara and Igor had their intro videos on the main Vol page. Just curious
You should definitely try and use all 13 scholarships whether they stick or not. Imagine Heupel saying "nah I'm good with only having 64 scholarship guys (the equivalent in football terms). The other ones would cost money and might leave." Doesn't make much sense.I don’t know where the roster will end up, but it isn’t a free lunch to add bodies.
1. Contributors cost money. Money that could otherwise go to other players.
2. There are only so many contributors
3. Guys that aren’t going to contribute will transfer out and aren’t worth investing resources in.
