Barnes has said on his visits through Tennessee and in the Tri Cities recently that we will be after good young talent - incoming freshmen. Instead of all players being from the portal. Everyone in here I'm sure knows that already but I wanted to reiterate that... Not all scholarship spots are being taken from Portal guys... Barnes loves to take on & develop young guys, it's important to have that balance and I love his approach. Plus we will haul a good freshman class of 2025 I think...So we may possibly maybe get Lanier. Maybe. Cool. What about the other 2-3 spots? Dumb to intentionally limit your depth.
He has his personal Facebook page, that's where I'm connected at with him. He's active on there & still very much involved with basketball. I think it's cool he's well connected with Chaz Lanier & his family.Cool. I need to find his number. He is down to earth and I enjoyed hanging out with him on the court when my son played. I think I last saw him in Nashville when TN beat State at the SEC tourney. It’s been a minute though, about 10 -12 yrs
Key was from TN and averaging like 16 points per game before being injured. I’m not even sure he was a backup plan. Awaka and Phillips committed in May after Key in April, so we had room. There might have been several options, but Key was being discussed that spring as a possible transfer.I've said he's the best coach we've ever had. Doesn't mean we can't have an honest conversation that there really isn't a backup plan if we miss on Chaz. I still want the kid, but based on what has been reported, he lied to our staff about how he would handle this. Now, if he picks elsewhere, we scramble for someone else to take that spot. Will we get someone? Probably. Will they be of the same quality? Probably not. Again, we wanted Yuri Collins. We got Tyreke Key. I saw Key as settling, not really a backup plan. But hell, this could all be for naught. Chaz could still pick us. And if he doesn't, it's far more of an indictment on his character than it is our staff's. They took a kid at his word. Unfortunately, a lot of staffs get screwed that way.
This should also help. LOLRumor out there that BYU is trying to sweeten the NIL offer by including the possibility of having multiple wives to help get a better break on his taxes and keep most of his NIL check. TIFWIF
