2024 Transfer Portal Thread

After meeting at the painted rock, Chaz stayed at Rick’s house with the other ten boys. He and ZZ shared a room, with Lanier getting the top bunk, and snuggling a stuffed Ernie and Bernie. He slept soundly with no incidents. This morning he will have waffles with orange syrup, covered in 800k.
Are you testing to see if Basilio repeats that in a couple of days?

Yeah, I'd never do that flight. There are 0 commercial direct flights between the two and the fastest commercial plane trip is a 3 hour connection through Charlotte.
Pretty sure Lexington’s airport has direct flights to Danville and Frankfort. Everywhere else is a connection. At least it seems that way. That airport is podunk.

I've said he's the best coach we've ever had. Doesn't mean we can't have an honest conversation that there really isn't a backup plan if we miss on Chaz. I still want the kid, but based on what has been reported, he lied to our staff about how he would handle this. Now, if he picks elsewhere, we scramble for someone else to take that spot. Will we get someone? Probably. Will they be of the same quality? Probably not. Again, we wanted Yuri Collins. We got Tyreke Key. I saw Key as settling, not really a backup plan. But hell, this could all be for naught. Chaz could still pick us. And if he doesn't, it's far more of an indictment on his character than it is our staff's. They took a kid at his word. Unfortunately, a lot of staffs get screwed that way.

To piggy back off of this. We’ve also been doing work behind the scenes, according to Ramey, if he does indeed pick UK. Ramey said we simply haven’t made the names public. Said that we are all in on Lanier, but that we will be prepared if he chooses another school.

He’s on the air now calling him “Waffles” Lanier.
Freudian slip. He's likely eating that during his show in the second hour. Incredible and somewhat disturbing that such an unprofessional, self-aggrandizing, pompous and annoying individual is still on the air. My word, let him finally get something...anything...right, and it's a 12 month self congratulatory tour. I can't take him for 2 minutes much less 2 hours. I'll sit through Hooker first.

You also just summed up how we feel about your postings...lol

You should definitely try and use all 13 scholarships whether they stick or not. Imagine Heupel saying "nah I'm good with only having 64 scholarship guys (the equivalent in football terms). The other ones would cost money and might leave." Doesn't make much sense.
I think the transfer portal changes the thinking on this a bit. You can no longer sit a guy for two years developing him, expecting him to wait to step into a roll. He will just transfer to somewhere he thinks he will play. If you recruit over a guy or he thinks you recruited over him, he transfers. Team chemistry may dictate you don't fill every scholarship every year. IMO.

You can also easily fill spots from year to year in the portal. Long term strategy out the window replaced by short term flexibility. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

RE Lanier's shooting technique, the main issue is that his release point is very low. Definitely not the best technique. It's more an old-fashioned set shot than a jump shot. He doesn't really jump much as he's shooting. A good jump shot is releasing the ball at level higher than
your head. He's releasing the ball about about his shoulder level, if that. You can't get off a shot when guarded fairly closely with a low
release point--but it won't be a problem if he's open and the shot is uncontested.

I really question what fans are seeing most of the time when they critique a player's shot. I spend lots of time viewing content and talking about the process of how to shoot a basketball. There has been massive leaps in collective understanding about how to best transfer energy into the basketball when you shoot and how to consistently make sure you only miss short and long, not right and left. Watching him shoot, he checks the boxes for how to shoot a basketball effectively. The only real critique most shooting coaches would have is his 2spot or load point is a little further in front of his body. But that is likely due to something about shoulder tension. He has his weight loaded and stacked really well in his base. The movement is very fluid without a noticeable pause at his 2spot. He has good alightment with his right shoulder turn. It's consistent and repeatable.

The way I’ve always felt has been that Laniers agents are keep pushing for the best deal for Lanier AND THE COMMISSIONS . Which basically means the higher the money/the better deal the better for BOTH parties involved.
If no agent was involved I think TN was a lock.
The fact that Lanier is allowing his agents to float for the best deal means that TN has to pony up or it’s not happening and TN.
For the people who believe he is coming to TN, are you still believing that? Or you think he’s going elsewhere?
I’m kinda of tired of his name. Let’s talk about others because my gut feels off.

l keep reading posts about Lanier's 'agents'. Thought it was an NCAA violation have an agent while still college eligible? Things changed??

Thank you for explaining shooting a basketball, here in the basketball forum. Fascinating. Does every player have to bounce the ball? Who are the men in black and white striped shirts who play for Kentucky? Tell us more!
