2024 WNBA Discussion Thread

Great Fever/Dream game.

Clark is just a winner. She had a horrible first half but came back and willed her team to the OT victory.

I really wasn’t that big of a fan when she was in college, I’m a Lady Vol fan, after all. But it’s hard not to appreciate the way she plays and conducts herself.

She’s incredibly passionate on the court and composed and humble off the court. Even goofy really lol.

Notice no notifications from ESPN even though it was a close game that went to OT. They hate her as much as the W officials do. I know someone at ESPN is seething knowing she is rookie of the year and they can’t keep putting out rage bait lists with Angel first lmao.

Sorry, no possibility the Mystics finish worse than the Sparks who are unlikely to win another game. They play the Sun twice, the Storm twice, the Mercury and the Lynx. Brutal finish.

I just hope RIckea can find some consistency in that gaunlet and finish strong.

Sparks have for sure commanded the tank at this point lmao.

Who are you hoping the mystics pick up next season?

Obviously is early so hard to tell.
I could be wrong but the next draft seems 2 players deep to me as far as lottery picks. Paige and KiKi and then the rest. I know Olivia Miles is out there but I'll have to see her play this year to be convinced. Who else am I missing? Maybe some international players?

We are no where near as committed to the tank as the Sparks have been! But getting two lottery picks, even if we don't get #1, just makes this season full of injuries and fourth quarter bed-crapping worthwhile. Sucks for Atlanta though, because they have no incentive to do poorly and with Canada back have been a tough matchup.

That's a good question, especially if we assume the Mystics won't get the top pick. I would never say no to Kiki but what we need is of course an elite PG (who doesn't) and the mythical EDD replacement, the 6'5" that can do it all, which of course is unlikely to come from this draft. Like glv, I'm also not super familiar with the draft board yet, seems like a lot of short guards so far.

Miles will be a get. She won’t be much of a scorer in the league but she is a superb pg. She would help the mystics for sure.

Covid years are gone right?

Not sure, very well could. If this season is a medical reshirt, she probably does.

You were saying on another thread how smaller players have a hard time coming back fm that energy. We'll see how Miles does this season.

The Sparks are getting Paige or KiKi so I'm all good with that. Paige perfectly fills the huge need.

The Wings are playing like they don't know the Sparks have last place locked. Unlike the Sparks, some games they just don't even try. I think Arike is poison, sorry I just do. I surprised at Satou playing that way.

LOL, Angel, ever publicity conscious, is making sure she gets plenty of camera time on the bench. Good to see Diamond and Izzy and even Dana Evans getting good pt today.

Yes, anecdotal but over the years just something I’ve noticed. It’s a permanent deficit even with a “full” recovery. Small players just do not seem to get the same level of play back. Miles best skill has always been her court vision and awareness. Her injury won’t change that but may slow her down a touch.

Man Atlanta just totally coughed the bone in a game they desperately needed to make the playoffs. Rhyne Howard had a great day, 3rd straight 30 pt game, but late in the game and in OT she's just firing ill advised shots and the Dream has no other plan. Then unbelievably, down two and w plenty of time on the clock they intentionally foul a 90% ft shooter and its over. Wright is a really weak coach and they don't deserve the playoffs, though I'd love it for Howard and TIna Charles.
That foul was a total head scratcher! I didn't understand that one at all and I know Charles was in foul trouble but even in OT Cubaj was trying to guard Boston and just plain couldn't. At that point what are you saving Charles for? Credit Indiana for regaining composure after some low energy patches of time and coldish shooting but Atlanta's end game coaching was rough.

Stop me if you've heard this before. Early second qtr RIckea is on one. Has 10 pts. Sparks playing hard and hanging in w the Sun.

Please basketball Gods, let this have a different ending. No MIA in the second half.

Li is having a great game too, gotta love her.

Rae started again tonight.

You know what? I don't believe any team ever deliberately tanks. Now, there might be an older player (like a Taurasi... super tired veteran player at this point) who might begin to sit out a game here or there or only play a half if the season is in shambles. But overall, I don't think any player out there is okay with losing, and so they're not going to shut it down.

Thing is, they all know how painfully short pro careers can be for probably half the league at any point, and so they all know they'd better always keep doing their best.

I just believe sometimes the roster is short a great player or two, or the team chemistry is off, or the coach isn't making necessary adjustments.

I mean, how in the world would anyone feel good about the future after experiencing a terrible failure of a season, on purpose? Sometimes getting the No. 1 Pick works out well (as with Clark), but often even that level of luck on draft day doesn't always pan out.

JMO. I don't think the Sparks are tanking on purpose. They just need ... something else. lol

99% of the time I agree. But then there's the time he needed a tying bucket and he took RIckea out (when she was having a career night) and ran a play for Steph Talbot.

Generally the Sparks can play their best and still lose.

Man, Thomas is easy to sports hate. I think there was some intentionality when she slammed Dangerfield in the face w the ball. And Crystal was having a rare good game.

Sparks by 5 at halftime, RJ w 11 pts. We all know what usually happens after this.

glv98, she is my least favorite player in the league. She gives off abuser vibes. That's all I'll say.

That's why it was odd they took both Kamilla and Angel. And at that time, they had Elizabeth Williams too. That's a post overload.

I don’t think TSpoon will last long as a HC. I have a feeling they thought they could use Angel inside out at the 3 some but her shot is atrocious.

She used to handle the ball pretty well. I remember brining it up quite a bit at Maryland like Diamond Miller.

Mulkey doesn’t play that game though and she lost all her ball handling skills at LSU.

I watched the Lynx and the Magic play yesterday. Enjoyed watching a close game through four quarters. What I was most happy about was the lack of whining by the players to the refs, even though the free throw difference was ridiculous. It is not a good look with constant whining.
