2024 WNBA Discussion Thread

No looks,,pocket passes, one-hand passes,,,hook-passes,,Drop-passes....I have been waiting for this for what seems all my life....NO, not for CC, but for permission for girls/women to play the game boys have been playing for years.

What CC is doing is not new,,,permission to do so at will,,IS!

This is one thing that has hampered the growth of the womens game,,,no eletrifying passes, out of range gunning, etc. I watched in agony as any time a female didn't make a two-hand pass they got benched, and I got mad!

I do hope no one puts a cap on her game.

Michael Jordan raised the game above the rim
Pistol Pete and Magic opened the door to theatrical passing
Now its in CC's hands to lead women's BB into the next phase
Throw in the back and forth chatter on the court, then it reminds me of modern day NBA. Nothing wrong with trash talking.

Natalie Nakase to GSV was fairly well predicted, but Steph White leaving Connecticut is pretty surprising! I wonder which team is willing to throw her a bag, and I wonder what'll happen with Bonner and Thomas.
Isn’t this how disinformation ploys work to generate a raise from the current organization? I know I’ve seen this work before… /js

What a great game, esp if you're pulling for the Lynx! I do feel a little bad for Stewie though, not only the missed ft that would have won it in regulation, but she went total Angel Reese on that last chance layup in OT. Bet she comes back w a vengance though.

Most of all I'm happy to see Phee get recognized and really happy that all the drama queens are gone. This was just good old fashioned basketball!

Reeve is a master coach. Esp impressive win bc the Lynx shot and played very poorly the first half and the Libs shot the lights out.

WTF? W pgs been making these passes since forever, from Tina Penichero straight thru to Chelsea Grey. And never needed "permission". This is the CC overhype that drives me crazy. She did not invent any of this. Passing and ball movement has been the hallmark of the W from day 1. It's lack of above the rim play they get criticized for.

The draft lottery has been announced for Nov 17. Huge for the Sparks, who have the highest odds for the #1 pick. Not a lock though.

If the Sparks do get Paige, I'll bet it ramps up the attractiveness of the coaching job quite a bit.

One interesting name mentioned is Katie Smith, an assistant to Cheryl Reeve. Had a brief stint as head coach of the Liberty a few years ago.

Defensive POY. Blocked this shot on the taller JJ after JJ did her patented arm hook and hold. Simply blocked it w the other hand:

And then the game winning shot:

Painful as it is to like a former Huskie this much, Phee is my favorite non LV pro player. Super talented, cool, smooth, smart and completely drama free. What a breath of fresh air.

Can't forget Courtney Williams, Reeve has her playing at the very tippy top of her capabilities. Definition of a dawg.

As a Liberty fan who went to a lot of games during the Katie Smith years...do not recommend. She was in a tough spot, though, coaching at the tiny Westchester County Center.

It looks like the Liberty are going to be 0-6 in the Finals. Losing game 1 (or letting it slip away) in a 5 game series really puts a team behind the 8-ball.

Plus, the Lynx took 3 of 4 against Liberty in the regular season. They just seem to have the Liberty's number.

All true but I do think that CC has taken it up a level, just like she is not the first 3 pt sharp shooter but her range is differentiator from other players.

Ticha P. was a passing wizard who made my jaw drop countless times. No, Clark isn't the first great passer, by far.

As most of us know, it's those logo threes, along with her ability to often play her best when the stakes are highest, that sets Clark apart.

Yup. As a Liberty fan I was pulling hard for Connecticut to beat them (though part of that was also because they don't have a championship)

I can't get over this game. 99% of me is devastated as a Liberty fan, but the other 1% that's a fan of sports in general is in awe of that performance from Phee down the stretch. Wish it could have happened against any other team

I wish the award for the regular season was Most Outstanding instead of Most Valuable. No one could argue that Aja Wilson had the most outstanding statistical regular season. But IMO, Most Valuable is the player who leads their team to the most sucessful season and is the player that team wouldn't have gotten there without. That's Phee.

Finals MVP is something different yet again, and at this early point could be either Phee or Courtney Williams. Sabrina still has a chance to be that as well.

Good story on Jordan and her stint w the Queens in NZ. It's definitely big fish in a small pond - they're excited for a record crowd of 3,000 - but that is exactly what JH needs and deserves right now. Won't help her much skills wise, but will help head wise which is always Jordy's challenge. Their game tonight will be on You Tube and ESPN3 at 10 p.m. est (I think)
