2024 WNBA Discussion Thread

I believe Katie Lou realizes she is probably the fourth option in the Fever offense. She is like the third guard and has consistently handed out multiple assists per game. Wouldn't surprise me if she isn't protected in the next draft when the expansion team is filled.
I checked her stats and her season's averages are right around her career averages. She is currently averaging 1.5 assist per game so I guess that can count as multiple assists per game but it remains underwhelming.

Across 5 teams, she has never averaged double digit scoring (career average 6.3) and averaged 1.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game, with a career shooting % of 39% (33% from the 3). Oh yeah, she plays on average 20 minutes per game (career).

So, those are journeyman numbers of someone who is just barely good enough to stay in the league. 6-3 with a decent outside shot is a skill that can help you stick.

But, if the Fever are going to become contenders, they need upgrades in this position.

Wish that were true. Don't know about him personally but people loved that show, it was on for years. Many people's guilty pleasure, like lookey lou at an accident. My own guilty pleasure in that mode was Honey Boo Boo. The worse the train wreck the better.

Interestingly, Springer was pretty well liked and pretty effective when he was mayor of Cincinnati.
The Jerry Springer show was a unwatchable product. Everything was scripted, surely there wasnt people that stupid.

You underestimate the American public. 😉
Yep!! The wikipedia page on this show is interesting. A 27 year run and, for several of those, it was the most popular daytime show, bringing in 8 million viewers per episode. There were even spinoffs in the UK and France (bad taste knows no borders).

The show actually began as a serious one where expert guests discussed the relevant political issues of the day. That format bombed and, and after year one, it was revamped into the "my cross-dressing husband had an affair with a crack-addicted porn star who has 3 illegitimate children through an incestuous relationship" "reality" show.

Quoting from wiki:

Critical response to the show was overwhelmingly negative, and in 2002, TV Guide proclaimed it to be the worst TV show of all time. This critique of the show as "trash TV", however, was satirically embraced by the show with the host, Springer, proudly introducing the program as the "worst TV show of all time" at the start of each episode.

Ogunbowale is the biggest ball hog I've ever seen. Ugh.

Looks like USA Basketball should have gone with a little less experience and picked up some of his energy the WNBA squad is beating them with.
I agree and even though she was a ballhug what she was doing was absolutely impressive.... The NBA All Star game is the joke. They could learn a lot from watching The w n b a's Competitive all star game.... I got so bored watching the nba all star game, that I turned on golf for excitement

Yes, she was making lots of shots but at least half of them were completely off-balance flings. What I didn't like is that it was obvious she intended to shoot on every possession and would only pass (for the most part) when she absolutely had no choice, and as soon as she touched it again she was clearly going to take a shot no matter from what distance or how off balance she was.

Ogunbowale was playing to win MVP and she was going to shoot it as many times as ot took.

Selfish player.

Izzy Harrison got 20 mins for the Sky vs the Storm yesterday and it's causing a little controversy. Kamilla only played 20 mins and barely played the second half, Izzy had 11 pts on 4-10 shooting and 4 rebs. The Sky, who depend on reb margin for wins, only outrebounded the Storm by 1 and lost. When they beat them Friday night they pounded them on the boards. When asked what the rebounding difference was yesterday, Storm coach said flatly it was that Kamilla didn't play much.

So Carolina fans, for whom the LSU hatred is always just under the surface, think TSpoon sat Kamilla to guarantee Angel's double double record and they're grumbling.

Diamond continues to struggle, played 13 mins, didn't score and had 1 reb and 2 assists. She appears to continue to lose ground in the rotation.
Thought I'd share a few pics. I was actually at the game. ( on vacation) Seeing 4 Lady Vols in action. Loved it!!!!!

Seattle has a very good team. Saw them lose to the Aces, in a close one, a few days later. I look for them as a team nobody wants to play come playoff team. Jordan is getting better and better.

gfan how exciting for you that you got to be there for that game! I haven't gotten to a game this season, so I'm happy when I hear someone has gotten to go. 🤗

Yeah, seems to me Seattle is getting better all the time. Of course, ALL the teams are getting better as the season goes on, but I see more potential for Seattle to steal a championship than I do for the rest of the league not from Las Vegas or New York. Those two remain the favorites, but I think Seattle has a shot.

Jordan is definitely getting better. Her hypersensitivity will likely never not be an issue because that's her personality type, but she works on it at least. Her body is obviously a priority now, so she is reaping the benefits of that and it makes me so happy to see it.

She's still got some maturing to do -- of course she does at her age -- but I'd say two or three years from now she's going to be even more special than she is now. Love that kid!

So happy for Jordy, the sky is the limit the second half of the season She's in a role that suits her with a coach who seems to understand her and is patient with her. Also on a team that could legit make a deep playoff run. The Storm plays on ION tomorrow night at 7:30 in Atlanta, then Sunday on ABC at 3:30 in Indy against you know who. Two chances to see Jordy (and Mercedes) play on network tv.

Looks like Rickea will be on ESPN tonight at 9 ET playing against the Liberty team. Hope to see Sparks improvement even though Talbot, Aari, Lexi and Brink are out for the game.
Yikes. The Sparks can never get a schedule break. Four of their first five games are against the top 3 teams in the league, the Liberty, the Aces and the Sun, and two of them are on the road. And oddly, they aren't getting Steph Talbot back even tho she played in the Olympics. And Ari is now out so Clarendon is all they got at PG, unless you count Zia. Hard to see them picking up another win for a long while. Rickea just has to keep grinding, keep improving and pray for help to come.

Sparks play on ESPN at 9 tonight, at home against the Sky Saturday at 5, then turn right around and play in Las Vegas Sunday at 6. Then on to Boston to play the Sun. Schedule remains brutal.

Interesting situation building for the Chicago Sky. Take a drink every time Chennedy Carter blows up her own career, usually over nothing.

A couple of days ago a list was released, I think by ESPN, of the 25 best players in the W. Angel was middle-ish, Carter near the bottom. CC then reposted a tweet where someone argued with that rating, based on their stats. CC also added an angry comment questioning the ranking. Of course, w the Sky being basically Angel's team now, some pretty serious online blowback was set off, tho to her credit and to my surprise, Angel has stayed quiet. Now suddenly Carter is out for the Sky's game tonight with a "non covid illness". Yeah, an illness called TSpoon's Doghouse-itis. Carter just tweeted yesterday that she was 100% and eager to go. Endless drama with her.

I just hope it provides an opportunity for Diamond. I was hoping DD might move up to Marbry's vacated starting spot, but another player got that job. I'm really worried for both Diamond and Izzy's future in the league to be honest. Both need some good opportunities and to make the most of them.
