Please Lord make this thread a bird so it can fly far, far away.
I think the OP's message was poorly communicated. We have a long way to go with this class, but I think the message is that our expectations for Butch on the recruiting trail are sky high due to last year's success.
HOW good was last year's class? Historically good on paper. I pulled the following together for my own curiosity, which includes the class year, Rivals rank based on avg. star (to remove impacts of class size), and avg. stars:
2015 - 24th - 3.28 (Jones)
2014 - 6th - 3.65 (Jones)
2013 - 22nd - 3.19 (Jones via Dooley)
2012 - 16th - 3.38 (Dooley)
2011 - 15th - 3.41 (Dooley)
2010 - 12th - 3.44 (Dooley via Kiffin)
2009 - 9th - 3.62 (Kiffin via Fulmer)
2008 - 26th - 3.06 (Fulmer)
2007 - 7th - 3.63 (Fulmer)
2006 - 21st - 3.09 (Fulmer)
2005 - 6th - 3.63 (Fulmer)
2004 - 10th - 3.25 (Fulmer)
2003 - 12th - 3.27 (Fulmer)
2002 - 2nd - 3.96 (Fulmer)
Thanks bro, that is correct. I like Butch a lot and he has already spoiled me with power packed all stars, was just a little startled. With that said there is a clan of elitist members that will scorn you for questioning something. It's like a cult and they are abundant and unforgiving.
If you work that much for a specific goal, an education is a consolation prize. Each player who goes into college highly touted and doesn't pan out failed himself, his family, his friends, his team, and the fans. He didn't succeed because he got 4 years of education.
I called people out on saying that they don't care if anyone makes it to the league as long as UT does well. I disagree with that viewpoint. You can drop your microphone all you want. Doesn't make me less right.
As I noted multiple times, I'm not saying that they are failures or that the people who love them say that they're failures. I'm saying that personal responsibility tugs at people who don't achieve a life-goal that they've set, especially when you're as close as a senior starter in the SEC. When you add to that the possibility that you wanted to take care of your family with NFL money, suddenly it's even harsher on the player.
Never said the family would call them a failure.
Solid reading, though.
So many people on here want to "boom" every commitment even not so highly rated ones. Then they say in Butch we trust and this player or that player will surely get a star bump during or after their senior years.
Brent Hubbs was on the Sports Animal for his weekly appearance today and was the very question that is often debated-argued-discussed in the recruiting forum regarding commitments getting a "Star" bump during or after their senior seasons. The specific question was in regards to the 2014 class and how many players got an actual star bump during or after their senior seasons.
Hubbs "recalled" that to the best of his recollection there were 4 commitments in the the 2014 class that received an actual star bump during or following their senior season and there was one player who dropped a star. So approx 12% of the commitments got a bump which for the 2015 class 25 commitments would equate to 3 players receiving a star bump and we could assume that maybe one commitment would receive a downgrade.
Which 3 commitments will get a star bump??? Interesting at least for discussion.

Your numbers actually workout fairly accurately. Seems to me i've heard three or four names thrown around this year for possible * bumps. If we take 24-25 that would be but right.
I'll have to think about the "who it could be though".

Except that you know who got what in the 2014 class has no bearing on the 2015 class. 7 or 8 guys could get bumps. Or more. Nobody knows.
The point is there are more than 3-4 commits that VN posters are asserting will get that star bump.
When you consider that different sites have different ratings 3-4 bumps per site could be more than 3-4 players total. Someone on rivals would call Dormady a bump because rivals has him at 2* but someone at 247 would say we already have him a 4 star top 5 QB. 247 bumping butcher to a 4 would be a bump but rivals and ESPN already have him a 4. Hubbs is using rivals.
The whole argument is stupid and annoying. High 3 stars are very good players too. We have #7 class in nation anyone whining is a little baby
