8th in Recruiting in the SEC for 24...

Case in point :

Even though Tennessee is 14th overall in the Class of 2024 Football Recruiting Team Rankings, while Oklahoma is 8th ... Tennessee has a higher average player rating (91.33) than Oklahoma does (90.75). Oklahoma is only that much higher because they have 8 more commitments than Tennessee does. Oklahoma has 28 and Tennessee has 20. That is largely due to NCAA sanctions, which Josh Heupel had nothing to do with.

Oklahoma is not kicking our a$$ in recruiting. like you might believe, if you only go by the ranking, without paying any attention to the player rating averages.
Apples and oranges 28 vs 20. We're higher because of the average and our average is higher because we have less. If we took 8 more they wouldn't be 5 stars and most would be 3 so our average would drop. We still hit on some really good talent

Well now you’re applying a level of logic and reason that some just will not countenance.
I mean I would think people would comprehend. We’re getting higher rated players than we have in the past statistically. The guys that have made us successful are being brought back; you can see that by how many linemen we got to come back for another year. Our biggest offensive need he snagged a TE that Georgia wanted. The blueprint is based on fit and retention instead of flashy.

Dude the difference between 4-10 in the SEC is absolutley miniscule and comes down to development and luck that the kids workout.
Florida dropped from 5th to 10th at 247 today because one guy flipped to Texas. The gap between a top 5 class and a top 15 class used to be huge. Now it’s almost nothing.

The bottom line on roster management (recruiting and transfers) is this:

This staff and our NIL collective are not getting the job done at a level that is going to allow us to compete for championships unless we get really lucky sometime and find lightning in a bottle. At the level we are recruiting (both high school and transfers), our program has a ceiling of 8-10 wins, and a floor of 5-7 wins. That is not championship level, that is merely mediocre or slightly better. Tennessee fans should find that unacceptable and demand more.

So are you donating to the collective? How much?

Wait until after the Febuary signing date to see how we have done.Coach Heupel and his assistants are recruiting from need at position and not strickly from star rating. With transfers,we should wait until June to see how we have done on a need and want position.

I get it, but it’s too simple of a concept for some.

Would love to see Heupel hire Chad Johnson who's from Miami to the staff..especially for recruiting ties on Florida amd to piss off a certain coach in Boulder who aperantley doesn't respect johnson as a person.....damn if i wouldn't love to see that happen!

You a seasoned guru on recruiting and portal issues? Provide us with some detailed and nuanced analysis on the matter. Not some general, cursory take on it. Thanks for your effort

We have like 8 scholarship dbs remaining lol & lawd. I regularly check utsports.com and the roster. Jordan Matthews, Christian Charles, Christian Harrison, Conyers, Gibson, Turrentine, Jordan Thomas, John Slaughter. Boo Carter & Beasley Coming in gets us to 10, the transfer to 11. And there is the Goree kid that is Carter's teammate. Largely untested, but we technically have a 3 deep.

I didn't mean to imply we wouldn't have any bodies - just don't know whether they will be any better. Several of the true freshmen played a good bit this year and I hope they were pushing the veterans for playing time, but time will tell. But we also saw a walk on playing significant minutes against Vandy (safety) so we definitely have holes to fill.

We have some good players and pieces... But compared to the rest it's not that great... Need to be top 4 year in and year out to get elite to compete with the elite

Not at all. Outside the top 4 classes, 5-13 isn't really that much difference. Player average we are 6th in the SEC, and outside the top 3, 4-6 are within half a point on player average. We are #[ overall in player avg and outside of the top 4, there's very little difference in 5-13. Definitely don't have to be top 4 to be competitive. Long as you're in the top 15 range you can be in the CFP talk, especially when you throw in the transfer portal.

You couldn't be any more wrong. Long as you stay in the top 15 range in recruiting and add some quality Portal guys, you can compete at a high level. There's little to no difference between the 5-15 ranked classes if you look at player avg. Even more now that next year the playoffs expand to 12 teams. Long as we stay in the top 10-15 range in HS recruiting and add 5-7 portal guys we will be more than competitive.

hours.

ESD NSD are both actual things that count... right now we are dealing with preseason rankings.

I “think” someone will have to leave off the current staff on their own for that to happen. He’s going to keep consistency for a while.
