8th in Recruiting in the SEC for 24...

We lost a couple pieces in the secondary and DLine. Doesn't look like we are getting Nolen.. Worried about the Defense again

Texas and Oklahoma don't count yet. And we will end up with a higher ranked class than the frickin' Gators and probably LSU.
Texas and OK for sure count. Those players they are recruiting will only ever play in the SEC. How do you think they got them in the firat place.

Yes ... but this forum has tunnel vision when it comes to interpreting the 247 Sports football recruiting data. The entire focus is on the numerical rankings, with no considerations given to player rating averages or to the number of commitments each school has.

I honestly do believe that some of these posters think Oklahoma has a superior list of players committed .... when in fact, it has everything to do with quantity. Oklahoma is #8 in the 247 Class of 2024 team rankings. Tennessee is #14. That must mean Oklahoma's class is much better, right?

No considerations are ever allowed for the fact that Oklahoma has 28 commitments, while Tennessee has only 20 ... or for the fact that Tennessee's player ratings average is higher than Oklahoma's. In the minds of simple people with tunnel vision, a list is a list .... and there is only one way to interpret any list.
Your argument can easily be turned against you though. Tennessee's average is higher because they have less players. If OK shed their 8 worst players from their class, how much better would they get in average? If Tennessee added 8 more players would they most likely be 3* and a couple 4*? Probably and our ranking would be worse still than OK.

So I'm not sold on your argument that OK is higher ranked just because they have more players. More players usually means more regression toward the mean which means the more players they add the worse their ranking would get because there are only so many 4 and 5* player to be had.

No, he's not.

Tennessee's class of 2024 is clearly better than Ole Miss's ... by any metric. They have zero 5 star commitments. Tennessee has two of them. Ole Miss has ten 4 star commitments, Tennessee has eleven. Tennesssee has a higher player rating average as well .... Hell, if you even just want to focus on the numerical ranking? Tennessee is still higher than Ole Miss ... and Ole Miss even has one more commitment than Tennessee does.

It sounds like you also think Tyler Baron is a big loss? He's not. If he had been projected to go high in the NFL Draft, that's where he would be going .... not Oxford, Mississippi.
Ole Miss is cleaning up in the portal. Got both UT guys, WR from South Carolina, and looks like they get Walter Nolen as well. Still think UT has the better class?

Two of the teams ahead of us have a lower average recruit ranking (OU & LSU). A couple have 28 commits. And I'm sorry but I don't give a damn about that 91.99 from the other UT vs. our 91.33 😂
No considerations are ever allowed for the fact that Oklahoma has 28 commitments, while Tennessee has only 20 .

Unless there has been a change in recent years, the rankings only count the 25 highest-ranked recruits.

I think it became pretty obvious who the staff targeted to stay and who they didn't. Baron wasn't worth paying to stay a second time
The width and depth of your insider knowledge is astonishing.

You have absolutely NO IDEA who or what the staff targeted. You are just spewing nonsense to try and make your self feel better about the situation.

To each his own.

No the lack of your ability to intuit what's going on is astonishing. Priority and paid: Mays, Eason, Pilli, Mincey. We have HIGH RANKED studs behind Baron. We are not paying him to stay and start over them for ONE year and risk losing our younger players. Same goes for McDonald Really not that hard to understand.

Why weren't the "HIGH RANKED studs" playing over Baron if they are so studly?

Not sure if you are trolling or just being obtuse but freshman, even highly rated ones, need a year to develop their bodies and learn the defense. That's why they brought Baron back LAST year. That's why they let him go THIS year. Good grief man. Really not that hard to understand.

Don't be obtuse. If it takes a season or 2 to get a player acclimated to college football then they are not "HIGHLY RANKED studs." They are projects.

Do I really need to show you a list of the highly ranked defensive linemen who have played major roles at Power 5 teams over the past 30 years as freshmen? Really? It would be simple enough to do. Shoot, just look at UT. NUMEROUS freshman D-lineman who have played significant snaps their first season.

If Walter Nolen had signed at UT would he have played immediately or needed a year to develop? C'mon man. Take the blinders off.

Their hs class isn’t all that great. I’d prefer that over taking 1 yr guys that bailed out on their team this past yr (Wells)

The bottom line with Ole Miss is they are pushing all of their chips to middle on one year. They are bringing in all these one and done transfers and spending money to have a shot at making the playoffs. After this Kiffen will take the Florida job, Ole Miss schedule will get tougher and they will be back to an 8 win ceiling team like a Kentucky or South Carolina. Since we don’t play them it does not matter. Hate to inform them…they still will not do better than 9-3. Joke will be on them ultimately.

Yes .... much better.

OMG .... Once again, some people here, think Baron is much better than he really is. If he was getting a high NFL Draft projection, he would be going to the NFL - not Oxford, Mississippi. Do you honestly consider Baron and McDonald to be much of a loss for Tennessee? That is ridiculous.

Jordan Ross next season as a freshman > Tyler Baron as a senior.
Mike Matthews next season as a freshman > WR from South Carolina

"Got both UT guys" ???? Are you serious with that? LOL.

That involves conjecture, based on who they would get .... I'm not speculating. You are.

Tennessee's average player rating is higher. That's just a fact.

I like our recruiting with what the last class brought and current players we're going to be tough. The how they are developed and utilized will be a difference maker.
We haven't finished this class yet, enough with the Debbie downers

... and the job he is actually doing in the portal is so overrated. It's insane. Tyler Baron is an average rush end. McDonald is below average. It's not like they got James Pearce.
