A Possible Solution Presents Itself.

That was quite awhile ago and the landscape of college basketball has changed dramatically since the Danny Manning days...IMO.

Plus, dude knows basketball and what player wouldn't want to learn in a program under him for a year and then make the transition to the League?

Two million gets a solid coach.

Two million could get a solid coach. The AD still has to make the right hire and said coach still has to prove he can win at Tennessee.

My point is, just because a school has money to spend that doesn't always translate to success on the court. As the old saying goes, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Not is the bird in the hand just finished sh**ing in your hand.

If, as becomes increasingly obvious, Pearl is suspended for at least a season and has to ultimately be terminated, the perfect coach to handle his absence/departure became available today. Larry Brown. How do you sell it to him? Simple. You tell him that Pearl is only being kept around out of loyalty and to ensure he is employable when his suspension ends. I raise that issure because if UT immediately fires him, there could be questions as to whether his suspension can be served while he's unemployed. That lets Brown, who has 3 or 4 good years left, settle in with the knowledge he's an interim coach in name only. It also gives you an extended window in which to seek out the long term answer. It's a win for everyone. Brown gets a big check without dealing with NBA egos, Pearl gets the issues resulting from his ethical lapse behind him, and UT keeps its basketball train on the tracks.

:lolabove:Larry Brown :eek:lol:

All UT needs is a commitment from the AD. This place is just begging for a winner.

Yeah, the NCAA never hammered anyone in the late '80s. Just ask SMU, Kentucky, and Cleveland State.

Seeing a reference to Kentucky AND Cleveland State made me think of back when UK got in trouble with the Mills and Manuel things and someone asked Jerry Tarkanian if the 'AA would put the hammer down on Kentucky...

He said..."Yeah, they're going to find them (UK) guilty and then give Cleveland State three more years probation."

Hahaha, in my short time on volnation ive seen this guy berate other posters for posts that dont approach the stupidity of this thread.

sounds good to me

Let's see. I can have a team coached by one of the five best pure basketball coaches of the last quarter century or the genius in charge of UT's brilliant substitution patterns. That's not a hard decision for me.

Good point. Question answered.

Under the scenario that Hat presents, I think it would be a pretty good move. Interesting anyway

You keep your dirty filthy hands off of him

I don't think you'll have a problem with someone trying to "steal" Pastner. Parity is creeping into CUSA and he'll struggle to make the tournament.

Decent coach. Not a hot commodity, yet.
