A Racist Take On Our New Coach

No, my post addressed your sh*tty and pompous attitude of calling people racist when you know nothing about any of them.

You seem to think that your limited experience as an AAU coach (an operation that has made recruiting as dirty as it has ever been) makes you an expert and all-knowing on matters of race.

Well, then fine. Put up or shut up:
Please provide a list of kids who have agreed to talk to only schools who did not have white coaches. And in fairness, you should also provide the list of parent's who do not want their kids playing for black coaches.
Your list won't be all encompassing but with your vast knowledge of all things Memphis, it should be quite detailed because, you are after all, the expert in this matter.

At no time have I said anything about anyone being racist, nor your bs on point 2. Man, can you understand what you read? Seriously. What are you talking about? You are so hell bent on being right that you are arguing with me about points I never made.

Yes I'm just a lowly volunteer assistant but I understand where you are coming from. Let me share this story with you. A few years back we had a young man on our team that was adopted by a white family and the foster father came to our head coach (who is also African American) and sat down man to man and asked coach to help out by taking him under his wing because there are somethings as being a white male he can't teach him or talk to him about that coach could from a culttural standpoint. And coach agreed and was more than happy to take on
that role. Now is that racist? Some people make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Dang son, you need to get a grip! What the heck are you so mad about?

How can anyone argue that there may be a recruit, who is black, that feels more comfortable with a black head coach? Not that he feels uncomfortable with a white coach, just more comfortable with a black one.

This thread has exposed some racist idiots for sure.

Hopefully, calling people you don't know, racist idiots because they don't agree with gets you through your day. Your original point has no basis in fact. Now some are making this a social experiment. UT now has a head coach who happens to be black. Whether it equates to a recruit talking with UT or not is an unknown. To say otherwise is conjecture. Disagreeing with you doesn't make someone mad. It means they disagree with you.

Agreed. Thankfully someone on here is not making absolute assumptions about how an entire race of people are reacting to this hire.

Reading comprehension not your strong suit? You should read my original post before you comment on it.
Fact - CCM is black
Fact - CCM was raised by his mother
Fact - CCM was raised in a very tough and dangerous environment.
Fact - CCM is a millionaire
Fact - not uncommon to find 4*+ basketball prospects with similar backgrounds who would like to be millionaires.
Fact - black athletes have said it matters
Fact - black posters in this thread said it matters.
Fact - white posters in this thread (like yourself) are telling black athletes and other black men that they are liars and ignorant because it doesn't matter.

Please point out the conjecture oh wise one.

Who here thought Cuonzo Martin was Italian when you first heard his name? LOL

Felt the need to comment on this having been involved in the AAU circuit and with guys who went on to D1 college programs.

Many Black players only go to a school by being recruited by a Black assistant coach. A vast majority of White coaches simply are unable to socially connect with young Black youth & their families. Hip Hop to Coach K is a condition that requires surgery. This is the case at Duke where Nate James stepped in and recruiting picked up big time for Duke in the past 2 years. Nate is a younger Black man, and he was able to bring in several talented players to Duke. However, Bruce definetly was not that type of White coach. He could handle recruiting kids anywhere regardless of their race. Bruce was a very likable guy when you get to know him. Cuonzo knows all about this having served as the recruiter/watchdog for Purdue for several years. He will definetly have to set an example for the players he brings in here.

Many people wonder why Paul Hewitt and Leonard Hamilton rake in top talent, despite both being average/mediocre coaches. Their race attracted recruit's families in regards to sending their son off for 4 years. With both being the most prominent Black coaches in college basketball, they reaped the benefits of it. In the case of Thaddeus Young, a local Memphis star, this was the deciding factor in his recruitment in which his father wanted him to be coached by a Black man who wouldn't "exploit him". They settled on Georgia Tech where they themselves exploited Paul Hewitt, a trend which Hewitt became used to.

Cuonzo should be wise to avoid being exploited by those types thinking he will be the "Black" Calipari and offer a 1 year adventure before the NBA. I also hope he refrains from recruiting thugs like Pearl did, I do not want to see guys on the floor covered in tattoos.

You obviously just made all that up. Trevol and easley said that's impossible, no evidence, all conjecture, and they should know because they are white.

Nice try. I said you were going off on a "racist based tangent" in response to your comments about "attacking white people" and "stereotyping, racist" commentary, or Post #218. IMO, that is a "racist based tangent".
Just used your own words.

It appears from how you see the world that you have some deep seated issues as it relates to race. How you see the world seems to revolve around race and not people.

Nice dodge. We're talking basketball, not life. You contradicting blacks makes you the one with the race issues.

Will someone please tell me why the devil it should matter what the color of our coach's skin is? What makes people think that just because a coach is black that it would make black athletes want to come play here?

Last time I checked, recruits, white or black, don't care whether or not a coach is white or black; they care about either one or all of these factors: (1) finding the right school for them to go to so that they'll have the best opportunity to excel on the court and in the classroom. (2) getting the best opportunity to get to the NBA while (3) developing the best rapport with college coaches (let me pause here to point out that this, whether it is the right way to choose a school or not, is the reality of the many things that go through the minds of many a recruit).

The notion that race should be a factor in the building of a basketball team or any kind of team is ludicrous and baseless. The notion that things will be any different just because our coach is black is complete insanity. The team's task will remain unchanged. The team's goals of winning a national championship will remain unchanged. Players' goals, whatever they may be, will remain unchanged. Our task as fans to get behind our coach, white or black, and this team, white or black, will remain unchanged as well.

Our coach is black. Fantastic. In my opinion, a black coach can win as many games and recruit just as well as a white coach. This thread is arguably the most racist I've ever seen.

You're making it bigger than it is. Race is not "THE" factor, its "A" factor. Black athletes have already stated its "A" factor. For someone white to tell someone black that it shouldn't be a factor is racist imo.

It shouldn't even be a factor. I don't see how being reassured that race will play zero role in team building is racist. This shows that the athlete is being recruited as a player and as a person, not as a black player and a black person. That shows that the race barrier is vulnerable and can be shattered. When I hear arguments like this, it's like two giant steps backward in that regard.

I don't think it matters for Calipari, Calhoun, K, Roy Williams or Bill Self. I remember that same argument from Kentucky fans with Tubby. It didn't work out that way AT ALL.
