A Racist Take On Our New Coach

Since that 1998 season, UK has won the conference 5 times to Florida's 4. They have won the tournament 6 times to Florida's 3. Before that, 40-0/21-0 respectively.

There is also that pesky little issue of the Wildcats being in the final four right now.

I think we can chalk up easley's comment as wrongheaded.

You did not mention the 3 national championship games played and 2 won by UF since UK last made a final four. Kind of a detail, whatever.

My response was to a UK fan trolling the board. They can stuff the Rupp stuff. Joe B's and Rick Pitino's and Tubby's are recent if you count Joe's of 36 years ago.

If you ask today's kids they will have Florida right there with Ky.

My head is fine. And I hate blue. That might make me racist.

Please explain this one...

Simple concept if faced with the choice between equal coaches and the difference (school and all) is one coach is black the other is white. Some families will go for the black coach because they would feel more comfortable sending their child to play for somebody who can relate to them. Not a foreign concept imo just the way it is for some families. Especially if said family is that of a single parent whose child has no positive black men in their life. Not saying this is end all be all factor but Im certain it will get some +s with some families.

I love how many white experts we have on black culture. What a thing of beauty. MLKjr couldn't dream this big.

Win on the floor and the recruits will come. I am not pleased with the sitution that the program is in but I think Martin is a solid hire. jmo

I'm glad to have a black head coach. I think it will pay dividends in the south. With his upbringing and life experience I believe he may win some key recruiting battles. I know race shouldn't matter, but it does. I think when in the living room of a top prospect, possibly talking to a single mother, his story and experience will be more convincing than the $10k Cheatapari is offering.
At the end of the day, I think Bruce was well liked by his players, but I don't think that they had the respect for him that they should for a head coach. Counzo will be both I think.
GBO!

I don't think Calipari loses any sleep about the color of our coach. Do you really think that if we had a black coach that Wall, Cousins, Mcknight, Jones, etc..would have come here instead of going to UK.

Cal offers big time recruits a quick way to get to the NBA. He has the Big Name school,UK, People that will help you take the tests required to get through school if needed, See Memphis Derek Rose, and a handler/agent to guide you through, see World Wide Wes, And plausablle deniability built in , See Memphis & Umass, so the recruit gets paid and he goes on, unscathed to the next job, while the institution bears the penalty.

See the only color that truly matters is GREEN $$$$$.

Exactly why this post is incredibly ignorant, you just proved everyone's case against you, in that you have no idea what you are talking about. So thanks for proving everyone elses point.

OK, since you understand simple concepts, here's one: give blacks a little more credit. Between you and bamacheats, neither of you have an idea of what you are talking about.

The question that hasn't been asked....does this kill our chances of getting white boys?

That's makes perfect sense why all those black kids from Memphis signed with the black coaches at Memphis (Coaches Cal and Pastner). Thanks for clearing it up. To address your later post calling everyone who doesn't see it your way clowns and calling out white people on keyboards. Again more sterotyping and racist crap, very becoming.

I'm white and I'm only calling out people like you who can't seem to think without going off on some racist based tangent. And if you knew anything about Memphis you would know there is a lot of pressure to stay home, regardless of who the coach is. You still didn't get the point about more doors opening up, including the Whitehaven door that opened yesterday afternoon as the coach called a UT coach for the first time in years. TELL ME WHY THAT CALL HAPPENED. Keep up with your crusade of ignorance and denial. I prefer to adapt and roll with what is real.

This is great, someone from Brentwood who knows Memphis, especially Whitehaven. I live here and know alot of the players, it does not make a difference. I actually asked a players father this yesterday, and he laughed at it. His son was being recruited by UT, from Woodale, but his grades were not good enough to get in and had to go to another school, and he is very good friends with Marlon Walls. So, I know from this and others that it DOES NOT make a difference.

So from your sample case of 1 person...ok maybe two...you think that it makes no difference whatsoever. riiiight. Thats a great way to prove your case. Anyway like I said before it makes a difference. It probably wont be the deciding factor because of outside reasons but I can assure you that black coaches get +s in black households.

Also Im from Memphis. Grew up there and graduated from Central High school. Heres the kicker for you........Im black. Like I said it matters definitely not as much as a NBA factory coach/school but black families like black coaches. Dont see why its so hard for people to grasp that it may factor into a decision, and if you wanted to prove it didnt you would have to ask every basketball recruit that is black. if you find one that says it does then my point is valid. To prove your point all would have to say no. Really dont see the argument here but you guys can continue on thinking it doesnt matter at all. People are arguing over whether or not it MAY be a factor. Dumb argument if you ask me.

Apparently it does, I mean no respectable white family would let their thourougbred son be coached by a black coach that's nonsense.

From Memphis, played there, coached HS ball for 3 years and AAU U19 Y for 3 years, with a NC won. Helped coach 30+ D1 signees and talked families through the recruiting process, sat in on visits, and listened to families talk about everything in the world. Yes, I know Jason Peters, the coach at Wooddale. His dad coached at MUS for years. Jason also coached Marc Gasol at Lausanne. Good coach. He's also 5'6 and white, which doesn't fit into this discussion, though he did hate BP. Advice: Don't randomly ask a kids dad if having an African American coach matters. You'll tend to get the same answer.
