Maybe I am an idealist. I have no qualms about it. Think about it: if you were black, would you want people judging you because of the color of your skin? Would you want people telling you that you can't do something because of the preconcieved notion that race matters? Or that because you are black that you have certain interests and tastes?
That would be like saying that the only foods that you eat are ribs, fried chicken, mac 'n' cheese, collard greens, and sweet potato pie, and that you wash it down with a tall glass of Kool-Aid. Why? Because you're black.
That would be like saying that just because you're black, you listen to rap, R&B, and hip-hop music.
That would be like saying that because you're black, you play basketball.
Or people thinking that because you're black, you must live in the projects.
Or because you're black, you must drive a 1970s Cadillac with big wheels with expensive rims on them.
Or because you're black, you must have three children with different women.
Such misconceptions are insulting and misguided. So, you can go on saying that race matters, but understand that it is foolish to think that it should.
