A Racist Take On Our New Coach

MY MY another who cant refute the argument so he resorts to calling names. Ha ha:birgits_giggle::birgits_giggle:

i've given you what a half a dozen examples of white coaches recruiting black youths just fine, yet you have yet to have given me a single example of a black coach outrecruiting his white counterparts. it seems the lack of evidence is on your side.

Is there a Common Sense curriculum? I bet we could build a new program for it. Amazing that a 25 (?) ACT is required to get in, but the common sense level in this country has to be on decline.

"I wish we had a white coach so that the kids can see something to reach for." If that were my true thoughts I would be blown off the board. Your comments are not any less racist, but at least you recognize it.

agree 100%. it's absolute common sense that if being black significantly helped coaches recruit black players that we'd see black coaches on average recruit better than white coaches.

What? They hired your hero and were paying $2.5 million. Surely you're not insulting the man you worship.

Pearl was a cheap hire who Hamiliton lucked out on. His resume was 10 times better than Martins. Pearl had won 20 games every year of his career except one, he had won both conference and a National title. Hamiliton got him cheap because he had been black balled for reporting a fellow coach who was a cheater. He is the best coach Tennessee has ever had in BB. And all your insults and name calling can not refute those facts. Also he was not fired for lying to the NCAA. Hamiliton and Cheek said that he was still their coach after that incident. He was fired because he bumped into a player at a HS game. The Williams drug incident had nothing to do with the NCAA and the player getting a couple of extra tickets was not really Pearls fault as the paper reported it was done by a staff member.

Some of our posters are just sad.

Case in point of this whole thread if martin can't coach then we won't get any kids and will be stuck with 2star white talent now that's racist :eek:hmy:

The color of a coach means nothing. The make-up of a coach (work ethic, ability to work with kids, basketball intelligence, the ability to recruit, the ability to reassure parents, honesty, following through on one's word) is what separates him from other coaches and not something like his skin color.

Now some people are able to succeed for long periods of time and lack some of the above. But again that has nothing to do with skin color. And I don't really care if this upsets people who disagree with me but to bring this up as a selling point is racist on every level (would be the same if someone said "a white coach is an advantage because"), and seems to give very little credit that most people are better than making decisions on something as wrong and shallow as the color of somebody's skin.

I think it is hilarious that the board was pretty unanimous in saying that we needed black assistant coaches for the football team so that they could relate to the players and help recruit but everyone is acting like a black HC in basketball is not a plus.

I do think it needs to be said that players will go where they think is best for them but if all things are equal having a black HC can be a plus.

UT's basketball recruiting base is in an area where racism is still prevalent. Most of the elite white coaches mentioned recruit nationally and are in areas that are not as known for racism. There will always be a segment of people who equate TN, AL, MS with being backwards and racist. If having a black HC helps dispel that notion then how is it a bad thing?

You do know that racism is everywhere. And if one reads this entire thread, they will see that it is alive and thriving with some members of this board.

Kentucky Basketball is always on the minds of Tennessee fans. The new coach couldn't get through his press conference without fielding Kentucky questions. The Wildcats are the elite program and the measuring stick for other programs to compare.
13 years removed from a final four doesn't make you as elite as you think. Florida is the elite BB program in the SEC right now. This is coming from a UT fan.

It is up to you if want to count the stuff from back in the day with the original racist coach.

I don't remember all of those great players. Who were they?

Jermaine Brown
Kevin Whitted
Orlando Berry
Chris Brand
Michael Curry
LaMarcus Golden
Carlus Groves
Steve Hamer
Ed Gray

Every one of these players were highly recruited

Doesn't mean they were good. It should tell you something when a player finishes his career as a Georgetown Tiger.

This is 100% correct but has no bearing on the point. The point is CCM will have more doors open for conversation now. Conversations with UT from some HS and AAU coaches in Memphis that haven't occurred in years. After that, it is what you mention above. Anderson will also get in more homes there than Pelfrey did. It's not hard to grasp. Denying reality is not healthy. I have coached there and still am in contact with many old friends. Maybe it takes walking in my shoes to understand the dynamic. I dunno. I'm done explaining. You'll see as recruiting picks up.

What your describing is racist behavior. Don't care one way or the other who engages in it. Seen the behavior my entire life. My shoes are fine.

This is the DUMBEST thing I have ever heard!! Did you even think it through?? Look at the most successful coaches in College Basketball (or even football). How many are black and how many are white?? Color DOES NOT MATTER!! It's the ability that matters. Yes, there are fewer black coaches in the NCAA, but if your logic held true, wouldn't ALL of them be successful? Yes, there are a handful of successful black coaches, but they are few and far between. This logic is dumb dumb dumb! And racist!

No I do not see this as racist. As a matter of fact looking beyond the recruiting, but as you brought out in your op is that he can level with those kids because they have probably been through the same stuff in life. And it is positive for a young African American male to look up to another positive African American male. JMO

Terry Fair, a black athlete, says it matters.
Jayson Swain, a black athlete, says it matters.
A bunch of white keyboard cowards say that it doesn't.

What a conundrum!

Another idiot that doesn't get the point. Let me ask you genius, how many homes have you been in during recruiting visits? How many Memphis HS coaches have you spoken to regarding this subject? Since 1995, much less. How many summer road trips have you been on with a team, where you really have true conversations with kids and what goes through their mind? You are clueless about many things, and the first of which is understanding what you are arguing about.

By your name, I assume you have coached, and I assume that's why you understand what I'm talking about. It's nothing but positive news, but clowns make it negative because they can't comprehend.

Didn't both of those guys sign to play with a white head coach?

I'm glad to have a black head coach. I think it will pay dividends in the south. With his upbringing and life experience I believe he may win some key recruiting battles. I know race shouldn't matter, but it does. I think when in the living room of a top prospect, possibly talking to a single mother, his story and experience will be more convincing than the $10k Cheatapari is offering.
At the end of the day, I think Bruce was well liked by his players, but I don't think that they had the respect for him that they should for a head coach. Counzo will be both I think.
GBO!

WOW !:loco:
