Active Players to Cooperstown

What happened with the Mantle/DiMaggio thing again?

DiMaggio was a crusty old fart. Casey Stengel told Mantle, who was playing right, to get everything he could get to because Joe couldn't move that much anymore. Mantle goes after the fly ball and Joe called him off last minute. Mantle pulls up and steps in a drain in the outfield and blows the knee apart.

Joe also would never speak to Mickey when he first came up as a rookie. One of the main reasons Mick was always so good in the clubhouse. Never forgot how DiMaggio treated folks.

That and he needed a DD.

Didn't know this, but Cochrane was almost killed by being hit in the head by a pitch.

I knew about the last part. I didn't know about Joe and all that.

I did know Joe could be difficult in the clubhouse.

Early Winn when asked if he would throw at his own mother...

"It would depend how well she was hitting and if she dug in."

I wanted to talk some baseball, and by God I got it.

When i was 9 or 10, there were 2 sets of cards, all were of photos taken by Charles Conlon, with player bios from about '15-42 on the back.

I read every one, you should get them from ebay. It's like reading a great book, about the old timers.

My grandfather gave me a book with every single MLB player to ever play a game through 1983. The ultimate baseball almanac or something to that exent and it's one of my favorite possessions.
