The meltdown over the departure of a running back coach, the easiest position to fill on a staff, is beyond belief

Question for my Vol amigos,

So JG left because he did not want to live up to the demands of Coach Jones?

Then, why would Butch keep an incompetent coach on his staff? Why would Butch then match the offer to keep an incompetent coach on his staff?

I would be questioning Coach Jones instead about his decisions.

This was not meant to troll, just pointing some things out.

Speculation 2,3,and 4 are essentially the same. I'd add what EA is saying to #1 that Jay didnt bring his lunch pail to work with him everyday.

For all those giving CJG credit for the running game last year: Yes, I am sure he played a part in it. I also believe an offensive line unit that featured 7 players that will most likely all be playing on Sundays had something to do with it-a group that includes 2-3 players that will be drafted in the top 3 rounds of the draft, if not more.

Perhaps EA changed his opinion of JG with more information? Usually how it happens. Plus, as has been stated a billion times so far, they offered him 300k, or a 75k raise since he's been on the staff for all of 3 months. That would make 2 times that CBJ tried to keep him here- JG just didn't want to be here. He's gone, lets move on.

I would say a great deal had to do with him being a Vol and to appease the fans. If he didn't offer to match, the fans would be livid with Jones

Consider that CBJ and staff are busting their tails and Jay saw the writing on the wall. I believe its been established he was not the most diligent worker. Thig basically kicked his butt in 31 days of work. Jay saw this and didnt want any part of it.

I won't pretend to know why Graham left, but I don't think you can really gauge the health of a program based on the career decisions of a single coach.

After all, if Graham knows how a winning program is supposed to look and feel, then why did he take a job working for Dooley. If your answer is, "Because he's a VFL". Then why did he leave now?

Butch may or may not be the answer, but he's definitely working harder and smarter than Dooley during his last year.

2 & 3. Coach Graham is not incompetent.

In the extended signing day presser... and it was a whirlwind day so I may be confused... but wasn't it Jay Graham that was using the presser to needle CBJ, in public, for an extended contract? Repeatedly.

IMHO, I thought that was inappropriate and unprofessional. That's not the time or place for contract negotiations, nor to put pressure on your boss.

I was afraid at the time that it may not go over well, and create bad mojo with CBJ.

Note: It was all done jokingly and may not have been a big deal. It was done jokingly, and he may not have meant anything by it, and CBJ may have taken issue with it. It may have been a non-factor.

You didn't really point anything out. No one ever said that Jay Graham was incompetent. What has been alluded to is that he has realized that Coach Jones is requiring a different work ethic than what Graham is used to coupled with the fact that Graham was not given the title of Recruiting Coordinator seem to have been Grahams motivation for leaving.

Ok so this is where we are now: Forget what Steve Spurrier's opinion was (remind you a legend in the SEC, national champ winner), forget JG was a recruiting machine at SC...we are saying JG had lousy work ethic based on this new guy Butch who hasn't proved a damn thing except he that his old staff in Cincy was apparently the best in the nation? Seriously?
