I am not saying cal is the only coach to push the limit because he definitely is not, there are probably many still coaching who are worse. I was simply bringing up instances for bigpapacat because he made the statement that calipari has never been involved in any shady situations, that's just being completely unrealistic and any rational person knows this is not true. That was all I was saying, was that he clearly has teetered on the line and been mixed up with some shady things.

The fact he has more final fours vacated than any other coach in history says its pretty often. If he'd been talked to or had his program investigated once then your statement would hold water, but there's a reason he is widely considered a shady guy, and not just by UT fan base.

The only thing he's guilty of is hiring people that are linked to the recruit, and about as guilty as offering the kid a scholarship.

3rd parties? No way. He gets his recruits one way. He sells the NBA. His lines to the recruit; "You're practicing daily with the best players in the country, you're on TV twice a week, you have NBA scouts at every game and we have so much talent on the team you dont even have to average more than 5 points a game to get drafted". If you were living in a trailer and were a 5 star player, who'd you play for?

Do I think another scandal will break out? Yes. Coaches hate Cal, sportswriters hate Cal, rival fans hate Cal. Just like the BS story about paying Anthony Davis....it all stems from hatred.

Do I think he'll be fired for cheating? Never. UK has even hired a specialists to follow the team everywhere to make sure nothing is broken. He doesnt need to cheat to land recruits. He could sell Raid to a bug.

Ok you've convinced me. He's squeaky clean and absolutely every incident he has been involved in was in no way his fault. He promotes ethics and self respect over anything else and expects nothing more than for boys to become men. Pretty soon this guy will be kissing babies, and taking a leave of absence from UK to go on mission trips to Haiti.

I mean seriously? At what point do you say there is way too much smoke for there to be no fire? I'm not claiming him completely guilty and deserving to be ostracized, but the fact some of you are claiming he is trustworthy and clean that he become the next pope is hysterical. You do realize he didnt always put guys in the NBA right? When he got to Memphis he didn't have that reputation he had to build it. Funny that the first guy he puts in the NBA happens to be a huge scandal and cause him to vacate wins, and pretty much cost him his job. He did questionable things at Memphis to get these top guys and once he started putting them in the league and wasn't found guilty of anything he was good to go. A monkey could recruit at UK and combine that with Cal's reputation and yes he can recruit probably better than anyone now and doesn't have to do questionable things in the process. He probably won't ever be found guilty of anything at UK but the fact you guys ignore his past is laughable. If I was a UK fan what does it bother you to admit that he is a shady guy? He hasn't done anything at UK, and continues to bring in NBA lineups every year without having to tip toe the line. Seriously though why deny what he has done in the past and claim that your coach is the Mr. Clean, says he's a shady greaseball and then laugh in everyone's face and show em' your NBA starting lineup.

hahaa...good stuff here. The country doesnt have one coach that doesnt push the envelope on rules and regs. He's no different. The only things we have to judge the man on is what sportswriters come up with and having 2 seasons vacated. Other than that, he could be a nice guy or a sodomite, who knows? All I'm saying is he's not as bad as 99% of people think. Why? Because I thought the same exact thing until I started reading prior to the Gillispie fire.
You're a great example. You posted earlier about his dirty deeds in hiring people linked to a recruit. Now, if I wasnt a UK fan and didnt know anything about basketball I'd say "He's dirty, he's a cheater and should be burned". Well, those supposedly things that most people would hate someone for are actually normal recruiting tactics. I appreciate you're opinion, who knows, maybe he's paying a recruit as we speak...but thats my 2 cents.

That's fair enough and i probably shouldn't have included the part about hiring coaches because as you said it is a common practice. Personally, I don't know if cal is the dirtiest coach around, IMO I think there's a lot we don't know, but ya know what if that's true kudos to him for staying one step ahead. There are many that crossed the line and got caught and I'm sure there are many out there still, but if they never have anything pinned on them it's just the public opinion which in the end don't mean jack as you and I know.

He has never been indicated for cheating. Every single time it was the players. NCAA has said it. Not me. I dont deny the incidents. But none of those make Cal a cheater. I dont like the guy myself sometimes. He always talks about the same crap every press conference. But he gets the job done.He wont cheat here. I doubt UK would let Cal out of their sight for 5 minutes.

If cal cheated at UK he would quickly rise to the top of my biggest idiots in America list. Anyone can recruit there, coupled with his already strong recruiting abilities and you just have a freaking NBA pipeline there. There's no need to do anything shady there like there was at Memphis or umass.

So we are clear there is a phrase called guilty by association. Just because cal himself may not have cheated, if players under his watch are cheating he could be found guilty by association. Obviously this has not happened, but that's what people are saying is that with everything gong on around him he's a shady guy who had been walking the line for awhile.

Anyone can recruit at there? You mean anyone except UK's two previous coaches before Cal, right? Having UK as a backing helps a lot, but it's not automatic. Tubbys last few years were a joke, everyone was 2-3 star players mixed with JUCO's. Gillispie was even worse.

3 classes before cal...ranked #15, #11, #16. if those coaches can pull in top 20 classes that proves my point.

Dont let the numbers fool you. They had one star player each year mixed with JUCO's and junk. Patterson was the only great find in those 3 years by a long shot and he was the 3rd best power forward in the class that season. UK had so many 2-3 star players starting it was nuts. Sheray Thomas, Orbzut, Micheal Perry, Micheal Porter, etc.

2008- 3 4* recruits and 1 3* who was josh harrelson, panned out pretty nicely. 2 of these are juco

2007- 1 each 5*, 4* and 3*, none of which were juco

2006- 3 4* recruits, none of which were juco

those dont look like juco and junk filled classes to me. in fact 5 of the guys in those 3 years are playing in the NBA, pretty impressive by any other schools standards.

Anyone who looks up this much info for me wins, i lose. But I will say this, Patterson was the only one who contributed nicely in that span. Harrellson was junk till Cal arrived and rebuilt the kid. Meeks wasnt that great, if not for playing on those terrible teams he wouldnt have scored like he did. If you're at a top basketball program and your best recruit in a 4 year span is Patterson, the 3rd best PF in his class, you're doing something wrong. Tubby couldnt even recruit a big man in his last 2 seasons, I wished he had stuck around one more year so he could have been chased out instead of leaving on his own.

i agree the classes werent up to kentucky standards, but to say that these guys werent able to recruit was just wrong. as i said i could walk into rupp, and bring in a top 25 class year after year. adding cal to the mix who could recruit a top 25 class to fargo,nd was just a perfect storm simple as that.

Orbzut was cool. I knew him through a friend who wrote sports articles. But I dont even remember Thomas :p

What were the rankings on Ramal Bradley and Joe Crawford?

One thing we can probably all agree on...Memphis is the worst coached team in the country. I'm watching their game right now with Marshall, and it should be criminal to waste the talent they have. Pastner wouldn't even be a solid assistant at most places.

crawford a 5 bradley a 4. that class had 3 5's a 4 and a 2. that was calipari esque. who was the coach in 04, thats this class? tubby? who said he couldnt recruit?

I never would imagine you could be so awful with that much talent. The games I've watched he doesnt even coach, he seems like more of a cheerleader.
