They're clearly still pimping to the younger, female crowd by using the save on him.

And you just know they're going to save his performance for last next week, so he's freshest in the minds of the voters. It would be embarrassing for them to lose Sam the week after the judges saved him.

The sad thing is that in the past the people they save last at least another 3 weeks typically. Beating out 3 people that are better than them.

I honestly thought the judges had learned their lesson about wasting the save the year they saved Casey Abrams only to lose Pia Toscano the next week. I guess not.

There shouldn't be a save period. You get the lowest votes and you go home. No second chances.

Oh I agree. Best I remember the save came in the year after Chris Daughtry was voted off when most people thought he would win it. Most of the time they end up wasting it like they did this year.

***spoiler if you haven't watched last night's episode***

I personally think Sam should have went home. I think he and the bottom two all lacked a connection to the songs they sang this week, making it pretty much even, but overall body of work makes me feel Sam should have been going home. Dexter had a bad week, but I would have liked to have seen if he could have rebounded from it.

Bottom two this week should have been Jessica and Sam with Sam going home. Like I said two weeks ago he should have never been saved, he's literally the worst of them all. Jessica will never connect with the audience the way they want her to because I honestly think there is something wrong with her emotionally, possibly mentally.

Jena had a very good performance, but that'll probably be the best we ever see from her and it'll probably not happen again like that.

CJ has such a good voice but I honestly don't think he's getting the right training/coaching from this show.

Caleb and Alex are both really good at doing the same thing every week but I find Alex more entertaining because you don't know how he'll change up the notes and his performance draws you in.

IMO, Phillip Phillips will be the last mainstream success story Idol produces. I just don't see anyone in this year's bunch that I think 90% of the (rapidly declining) viewership won't forget by the end of 2014.

I'll be surprised if Idol even lasts more than 1-2 more years.

BTW, I think that Demi Lovato thing was possibly testing the waters for a fourth judge.

Thoughts?

I hope not. I think it's made the show worse every time they've tried the 4 judge panel. Last year with Nikki and Mariah was a trainwreck.

I predict a bottom 2 of CJ and Sam, with CJ finally losing his 9th life and being voted off. CJ tanked in a theme that he should've excelled in. I thought he had potential early in the season but it just isn't coming together.

Jessica got the bounce-back night she needed. Forget about "working the stage," or whatnot. She needs to keep doing what she did tonight...stand in front of the mic with her guitar and just sing. That formula worked out well 2 years ago for Idol's most recent major success story, Phillip Phillips.

Caleb continues to be Mr. Consistency. Never has an off night. Thought the Carrie song might be a stumbling block but he got through it. His first song was epic. The problem he may face going forward though is becoming a victim of his own high bar. He's had so many standout performances this year that I fear the voters may start taking it for granted, and even a minor slip-up could put him in trouble.

Jena took a small step back IMO, but she's built up enough goodwill to survive one semi-off night. Will need to be better next week though. Overall, I think she still leads Jessica in the Last Girl Standing race, but the gap closed some tonight.

I thought this week's theme would be tough for Alex, but he made it work. Really like what he did with "Always On My Mind." He may be the favorite to win the whole thing right now.

If I know anything about this show Alex will at least make the bottom two if not even go home. He should have stuck to what he does best and not listened to the judges telling him to change who he is. The first time he does that and they throw him under the bus. I've seen it before on idol many times. Even though he is one of, if not the best he'll be in the bottom tonight. Though I keep watching every season, this show never fails to disappoint.

Jessica in the bottom 2 again? Looks like the judges have succeeded in turning the voters against her. I thought she was in the top 2 this week TBH. Appears her elimination is inevitable next week.

Glad I was wrong about my prediction!! :good!:

Well that was an emotional ending to this week with CJ. He sounded really good the first half he sang. Sam getting saved first is odd though that might not be due to votes. I was right about him beating out at least 3 other people now that were better than him.

I don't get it. She is 10X more talented than Jena.
