Antonio Barton is coming to UT

Excited about the pickup. I don't know if he's an upgrade or not. Trae was inconsistent at times but when he was on he was lights out. He played in the system (don't know if he ever really figured it out) and was familiar with his teammates.

Maybe the chemistry wasn't always there, but that will be the learning curve for Barton. He's got to find his niche within the team. We have established star power in Jordy, Stokes and Jeronne. Even Hubbs is being groomed as our next big star. AB has got to find his niche early. We all dont want another slow start, but that may be a reality until everyone knows their roles.

In the 2011 first round NCAA Tournament game against Arizona & D. Will... Antonio Barton was player of the game for Memphis logging 35 mins, scoring 17 pts (hitting three 3's). Joe Jackson logged 19 mins in that game. Memphis lost 77-75 in a great game.

I remember that game clearly as Memphis was in UConn's region. UConn then barely escaped Arizona in route to the Huskies 3rd National Championship behind EZ-Pass Walker.

Congrats to Vol Nation on the Barton pick up. The above experience is invaluable. Absent injury or some other unforeseeable event Tennessee should be on the cusp of 1 of the greatest seasons in the history of UT hoops.

JMHO from the east coast.

I think T. Black transferred to Kansas. Memphis kids leaving what does that say about Josh Pastor? :eek:lol:

It says that Josh Pastner brought in players that were even better than them so they both left bc they weren't going to play. Good problem to have if your Pastner....

Had better talent in front of him. Same with Tarik.

+1. End of story. Talent wins out.

Note Charles Camouche left Memphis and thrived at LSU last year. He wouldn't have seen the floor for Memphis and it opened a scholly for Memphis. Win win for everyone.

Vols should be in SEC Championship game and also make a deep run in the NCAA!!!

It does make one wonder why a team with four seniors including 3 All-SEC players in the front court and the starting lineup would be considered an underdog to a freshman team at Kentucky especially after the 30 point thrashing Tennessee administered in Knoxville the last time they played!

Also, Antonio never would have been recruited to Memphis but for Will. Not enough talent for Memphis....That was a package deal. But even though he doesn't have a lot of talent, he is a good kid, smart, hard worker, tough and those things go a long way in college sports and will certainly help UT this year be a MUCH better team than they otherwise would have been.

Good grief. I'm not a Kentucky fan, but since you wondered aloud I'll offer just a few reasons. Maybe b/c Kentucky won the Natl championship 15 months ago with freshman. Maybe because last year for Kentucky was an anomaly and a whole new crop of incredibly talented kids, many would argue the most talented ever in one class, are on their way to Lexington. Maybe because last year's game with Kentucky, which was fun as hell to watch, has absolutely zero impact on the game this year....if anything, it gives Kentucky ammo. Maybe because the only thing CCM has proven at UT is that he's got a cool name and can snarl real neat. And bringing it full circle to this thread, maybe because great teams rely on their backcourt to win games (see desperate need for Antonio Barton who left Memphis b/c he's not talented enough to get on the floor for them).

Edit: And it's because ESPN hates us.

And the kid can shoot the 3 from anywhere on the floor. Amazing shooter

Very similar to Butch and ready to roll this year. The Vols would have been in the NCAA last year if Maymon had not gone down. Martin won the College Invitational post season tournament one year and the Missouri Valley Conference Title the next. To act as if Tennessee, with the best team they have had in years not to mention never in their history having 3 all SEC players in the same lineup, is incapable of winning the SEC this coming year is not giving very much credit to our players!

Get ahead of ourselves maybe you don't remember the last two years. With Golden we were already projected top 3. Lost Golden add Barton we are right back there

actually, we have never been projected top 3 with Golden. Martin's first year, we were projected 11th (or near the bottom) and last year, i think we were projected 6th or 7th.

great pickup! We really needed this kid. To be in on some really good talent the next couple of years, having a solid season is VERY important.

Think he was referring to next season.

I'm talking this year coming up and no last year we were top 3/4 with Maymon. It was UK Florida Us and Mizzou

Adding Barton is huge. I couldn't believe it when I heard the news yesterday. I had given up hope on landing him. Should be a really fun year in TBA!

Memphis has talent across the board and its deep. Pastner has no clue how to exploit it. For those that think Barton can't ball you're in for a treat. He's extremely intelligent on the floor and knows how to get the the rock to the big men. I've watched this kid ball, there wont be any games where the PG doesn't show up in must have games. Trust me or don't but he's a straight baller.
