Someone said earlier that Jim Harbough was going to bring the most pathetic team ever, Stanford, back to prominence. Well this guy is going to have Bama roll over everyone then.

if the furd win more than 3 games next season, harbaugh deserves coach of the year. and I'm not even being sarcastic.

Wasn't Cal 1-10 the year before Jeff Tedford came? Cal fans are surpassing Alabama fans.

Not that bad... At least Bama has some history of national prominence in the last 60 years. Cal was South Carolina bad for a long, long, time. They come back, are decent, and now their fans act like the football team is a big deal.

Yes but the situations couldn't be more different. First off, Holmoe (the 1-10 coach) regurally had top-25 recruiting classes at Cal, so tedford didn't start with nothing. Tedford also inherited a senior laden team with a senior QB. Also Cal can recruit JC players, Stanford cannot. JC players tedford recruited included Aaron Rodgers, JJ arrington, and ryan riddle (all huge contributors in the 2004 team).

Stanford hasn't sniffed a top 25 recruiting class. He lost by far his best players on defense (119 ranked defense BTW) and his senior QB. There is zero talent at stanford.

Oh but we are a big deal. A very big deal. After we beat you, we will be an even bigger deal.

well i've kind of been through this all before but. . . yes we lost bishop, mebane, and hughes, but beyond those guys our d was very young. Overrall I expect the D to be improved over last season. And lynch is certianly a loss but I expect our run blocking to be MUCH improved (due to the talent and experience returning on the oline). I could be wrong, certainly, but I really do think this years team will be better than last years. And I expect tenn to be worse (at least in the FIRST game of the season).

It seems we argue this about once every two weeks

How? How are you a big deal? In recent years, Cal, more than any other team, has embarassed the Pac-10. In 2004, you got snubbed from a BCS game. I defended you. Against all the SEC homers on this site that have seen maybe 2-3 Pac-10 games in their lives, I defended Cal. I said you guys got a major screwjob, ten times more than Auburn that year. I was infuriated that Texas made it in over you guys. What does Cal do? Cal goes and gets throttled by TEXAS TECH.

Jeff Tedford has yet to accomplish anything of any importance outside the conference.

But at the time, when Tedford was hired, you didn't think you'd be HERE (here being used loosely).

No, but beyond tedford how many other coaches have turned 1-10 teams into perrenial top-25 teams? And because of the JC issue, the fact that stanford can't recruit 90% of all div 1-A players because of academic standards, and the fact that harbaugh's staff is the lowest paid in all of college football (meaning institutional support is minimal at best), it seems highly unlikely he could turn it around quickly. And lets not forget that Harbaugh was the coach of USD (a div 2 non-scholorship school). He was also arrested for a DUI with an underage girl in the car and is a known alcoholic/womanizer.

As said by Alabama fans.

"Phillip Fulmer has been described as "a genius," "the greatest coach to ever walk the planet," and "one handsome devil" by Vols fans. No one listens to them, though, since no one listens to ignorant hillbillies, and his reputation among those more familiar with college football and not hampered by a lifetime's worth of moonshine is far less flattering. He's known primarily for his success in recruiting the cream of the crop from our nations prisons, insane asylums, and Texas, and for being a big, fat, disgusting blob that bathes in giant tubs of Sam's Choice Imitation Velveeta to maintain his filthy hide's slimy texture."

What do USC fans say about Cal? That's right, Cal is an afterthought to them.

actually the majority of SC fans consider Cal their hardest game every year (edit though most SC fans really don't believe ANY team can beat them). And no i'm not joking. edit: you will find that in the pac-10 tedford and cal are very highly respected.
