Apple event 9/9 1:00pm

Really liking the plus. I have unlimited data through Verizon, so I would have to buy outright. Not a bad deal considering I use the better part of 30gb a month. (I stream a lot of video. No wifi at work)

Freak, are you really sure you want to give up unlimited?

AT&T unlimited starts throttling at 5

I could never hit 30Gb. On AT&T, I'm my area anyway, the speed is throttled after 5GB. At that point it becomes ridiculously slow like Edge speeds. Otherwise, if it were truly unlimited, I'd keep it.

I know when I switched from a iPhone4s to a 5 my data went up dramatically because of the LTE network. Of course sales guy never made mention of this. I wonder what kind of increases will come with the 6 and the XLTE coverage? Will that be available on the 6?

Trying to decide on the 6 or the 6 plus.

My family's on Verizon. My dad and I both have the iPhone 4, with each of us still on an older unlimited data plan that we were grandfathered into.

We're already going to update everything to a family plan - I believe it's 10 GB - when we use this well-past-two-years update (due to the varying timing of the rest of the family's updates, there are 2 iPads on smaller data plans, my mother's iPhone 4s is on a 2 GB data plan, and my sister - who can't keep a phone battery alive to save her life - has a 5s on a 2 GB data plan).

Verizon's told us that the $200 trade in value on each phone can be used as a credit towards one of the larger GB versions of either phone, and since the phones we have would pretty much only have a $30 trade value otherwise, it's all pretty appealing/seems like a good choice.

I'm not sure which one to choose though, so I'd appreciate some help.

Also, do you think it's better that I preorder from verizon online at midnight or that I physically go into the store when it opens (apparently 10 AM)?

There are some templates on line (you'll have to google it) that can give you an idea about the size of the phone. I'm going with the 6 right now. My sister has the Note and it is huge. The way I feel is I already have an Ipad, so the 6 is just fine for me.

Even though it makes no sense to keep unlimited data, there's still something inside that makes me hesitant to give it up.

The thing about the throttling was it was suppose to be the top 5% of unlimited data users. When I started getting throttled at 5GB like clockwork I got curious as to how they come up with this because surely I'm not the top 5% every single month. I filed a BBB complaint & they tip toed around actually answering anything but waived a pending upgrade fee. Then tried to sell me on a data share plan.

I had decided on the Plus, until this afternoon when 2 fellow co-workers told me I'd think it was too big...

I run out of room at 16GB often, and the prospect of 64GB on the 6 for same price as 16GB is tempting...but I think if I DON'T go with the Plus I won't be happy.

Thoughts????????

I remember when they were selling it as only the top 5% of users.

It's something to think about. I gave it up once and went back two days later after using 4gb in that time because of the LTE Network. I had to buy the phone outright but with my data usage it made sense for me.
Cheers

What do you mean you had to buy the phone outfight?

I don't mind buying the phone outright, my problem is I have a bunch of built in subsidies to my plan every month. It's costing me $900 over two years for $750 phone, in essence.

Don't renew the contract and pay full price for the phone, which is nearly $700-800 depending on the model.
That's the only way Verizon will let me keep unlimited. I can't get upgrade prices.

For me, it's worth it considering the price of 30gb these days.

Yea I think you're right, it is everybody not just unlimited users. They also just use a fabricated number like 3% to classify the top 5% so that means pretty much anybody with unlimited is getting throttled at 5GB. 5GB seems like a fairly low cap when you're paying for unlimited IMO. Should be closer to 10

That's a lot of data.

I'm not too familiar with it but from what I know it's installment based. I have heard they charge a financing fee with theirs but it could be false.

Edge is identical to next, except that they only offer the 20 month option.

At 4GB and up, verizon and att plans are identical.

If the plus is anything like the Note, that thing is huge. I can't imagine anyone without a purse carrying one of those.

The note is like 6.1 IIRC. The LG Flex was even bigger. The difference is most loved the Note, arguably one of the best phones ever made.

I thought so. I'm not sure where I heard about them having a finance fee. Didn't know if it were true or not.

Note 2 is 5.5 and the Note 3/4 are 5.7.

Note 2 is 5.5 and the Note 3/4 are 5.7.

The 4 is 5.7 and the Flex is 6.1 then, and the Mega is 6.3. We literally maybe sold one note a month, nobody ever wanted one because of the size, and when someone wanted it they came in and said "I want a note."

In my 7 months there I think I sold 2 megas.

Do you guys think there is really any difference between pre-ordering (through verizon) the phone at 3 AM vs going to the store to do it when it opens?
