Arizona Pastor Arrested, Jailed for Holding Bible Study in Home

You are well on your way to arguing for a tyranny and a dictatorship.

As long as I'm the dictator... :)

But really come on man, spend $300 grand of your hard earned money just to have your nieghbor build something that makes your property virtually worthless.

Your tune would change.

My tune would not. But, hey, if it is all about you and the dictator supports your preferences over the rights of others, then you apparently win.

you have no clue about the police in Maricopa Co. You have no details to back your claims either

if it's 20 people sitting on couches in his house there is nothing wrong. If it's 20 people sitting in a separate room he built full of pews, pulpit, etc then it's quite another

Hmmm....I live in the Phoenix area, and I hadn't even heard about this. I haven't been able to catch the news for the last few days. Without knowing any of the details of this specific case, though, I still feel confident in stating that the police in Maricopa County are not exactly known for being a bunch of liberals that are out to prosecute conservatives.

I'm not sure I'm all that groovy with the idea that private property trumps any other consideration. There's a bit too much "This is what I wanna do and the rest of you can suck it." going on. Noise ordinances (for instance) exist since sound doesn't respect property lines. If somebody, just 'cause they figure they ought to be able to do so, wants to set up concert speakers on their patio in a suburban setting and blare GWAR (or worse, Beiber) at 3:00 AM they most absolutely ARE encroaching on their neighbors. Moreover, I reject the idea that the onus is on everybody else to accomodate this guy and his aural preferences.

If YOU are doing X (whatever that is) that demonstrably (let's not start getting petty here, that's disingenuous to the conversation) can be said to be encroaching on your neighbors then you're the bad guy. Since it's not exactly a good idea to simply allow the neighbors to (keeping with the above example) firebomb the dude's sound system having some legal recourse makes sense. If dude is so in love with his sound he can buy a bunch of acreage and sonically give himself a brain aneurysm. Nobody is telling the guy he can't do what he wants to do on his property as long as what goes on only involves his property. That's not, nor should it be, a carte blanche scenario.

That's because he is in a Mission from God.

Therefore, he can do whatever he wants and anyone who dares question his means is just anti-Christian and hates religious freedom.

Pot kettle

So if you spend $300k on your property and your neighbor builds a dump effectively devaluing your property from $300k to less than $50k (because no one will want to buy the property next to the dump unless they too wish to build a dump) is that ok?

The fact of the matter is that the property was zoned before the guy purchased the land. If he didn't like the way it was zoned, then he shouldn't have purchased the land.

Oh. You suck! I was setting him up with my previous question, but then wasn't able to post my response until just now. Now I see this!

You are if you think the law should be respected and adhered to simply because it is the law.

you and I understand the term worshipping differently.......I guess since I don't speed because it's the law means I am worshipping something.......interesting
