Reports: Arkansas has made an offer to Jon Gruden » GoVolsXtra

Govolsxtra is now reporting that Arkansas has made an offer to Gruden. They also say they expect a response as soon as the LSU game. If anyone expects Hart to make a push, he will have to do it within the next couple days. Reports are that Gruden has shown slight interest.

There's an article in this morning's Arkansas Democrat Gazzette stating that the offer has been made and that John Daly (professional golfer and drinker) is friends with Gruden and trying to lure him here. Doubt very seriously he ends up at Arky, but I'm starting to soften my stance on whether or not he would even consider UT.

I have a hard time visualizing Gruden going to Arkansas.

I will say, there is no way UT can match their money, unless the boosters step up to the plate.

The article in the Dem Gaz says UT can write bigger checks than Arky and that they expect him to sign with UT over Arky if he wants to coach at the college level.

One interesting note, is that one columnist said that Gruden makes 8 mil per year at espnhatesus, and another 2 mil from EA Sports, so any school will have a hard time coming close to that.

The University will pay it up. Gruden puts people in seats and eyeballs on TVs. They'd get the money back in only a year. Any University would kill for that.

He is not going to Arkansas. The only reason he would coach in college is for some work life balance with his family. He wife is not from Arky she if from East Tennessee.

Tennesseee or NFL. NEXT.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if he ended up at Arkansas. Not because he doesn't want to be at Tennessee, but because I just have a funny feeling the people running the coaching search at UT will find a way to screw it up, it's the Tennessee way :(

Have you not heard it said from his people that he would take 2the college jobs if he ever went that route and its ND and TN. If he doesnt take UT then he wont be coaching college. I would bet anything I have he does not go to Ark. He may or may not end up at UT but WILL NOT end up at Arky. James Franklin and Gary Patterson dont want that POS job why are so many worried Gruden does?

last time I heard it was 4.3 million a year from ESPN. I don't know about the EASports. It sounds like many columnist do not want Gruden in Tennessee.

They have Daly and we have Manning. I never thought any announcer could love a quarterback more than Madden did Farve. But Gruden loves Manning more than Madden did Farve. I think that Manning would have much more influence than Daly. I'm not saying Gruden is coming or not and nobody knows but Gruden what he is going to do. I wish he would, but i am more concerned about a great coach at a great program with great support.

I would make Patterson & Petersen say no to 4.25 million before I paid Gruden 5.5+. They are proven on the college level. They can win with less. I know most are hell bent on Gruden at any cost, I am just not one of them.
That makes two of us LV. Petersen's college W/L record is 80-8 for GODS sake. Gruden's is 0-0. If I were a betting man.......

If they do, then we automatically go to bottom half of the second tier programs in the SEC.

Peterson's record wouldnt be 80-8 in the SEC. Hawkins is the one that got Boise on the map and we see how well he faired when he left Boise. Not saying Peterson would have better results but regardless he is not leaving Boise, for some reason he loves it there.

The sports monster here in the Tri-cities just had a guy on who is the producer of an affiliate radio station in Arkansas. He said he has been told the offer has been made and Arkansas is willing to make Gruden the highest paid coach in the SEC. He said he hasn't heard anything official from the University however.

If this is true, we will find out real quick if UT can afford to pay the big bucks to a guy like Gruden.

Sabah will always be the highest paid coach in the SEC.....Alabama guarentees he will make 100k more than any sec coach.

How can we compete with this...someone has to make a video STAT!

Petersen would not have Boise St players playing in the SEC either. Who knows what his record would be? He is a proven college level coach and has won at a very high %. If I could hire the man and his chosen assistants and save 3 million bucks a year, it's a no brainer. Biggest offer "on record" to try and get Petersen from Boise was UCLA at 2.8 million. Maybe he won't leave. I'd make him tell me NO though.

No way..Gruden would recruit circles around them and would put an unreal staff together that would have the players coached at such a high level even if Gruden didnt coach 1 minute. Your only as good as your assistants and we have to have an elite recruiter at TN with the lack of HS talent in TN. I would take Patterson if Gruden, Stoops and Strong said no. Peterson isnt leaving so he's not even worth the call. He turned UF down he definitely wouldnt take UT's offer.

If you're referring to John Daly that joker is broke. He's also not nearly as popular or recognizable as manning. Unless there is something im missing, not sure why Daly matters at all tbh.

I like Stoops, but think it would take 5 million plus to get him and not sure I would go that route at that price. No way in the world would I pay Strong 3.5 million plus(what he would ask to leave UL). His resume is nowhere near that type of money. Butch Jones would be a compareable to better hire than Strong and we could get him for 2.25 million. I am just not one to throw top money at a coach if he does not have the resume to support it. Winning in the college game is what demands top money. Don't get me wrong, if Gruden is the hire, so be it. I hope we win every game. I just think their are smarter options out there for that type of money.

We will agree to disagree. He has never had to recruit the South and against guys like Saban, Miles, Richt, Spurrier and its completely different going into a kids house in the south than the midwest. Just dont think he could recruit well enough or put a staff together that could get lowdown and recruit with the other coach's. We had some pretty good recruiters on Dooley's staff and couldnt crack the top 10. Florida supposedly offered him, i personally dont know we all know things arent always made public but I gusrantee he has had offers from teams in much better shape than us and didnt take it. I would guess if he ever left it would be closer to where he is. Hawkins was great too at Boise and was the next great coach and I dont even know where he is now.

Could Tennessee afford to have Gruden go to Arkansas? The only teams worse than Tennessee this year is Kentucky and Auburn.

That is what it really comes down to. We missed the boat on Brian Kelly in 08, we cannot afford to let that happen again. We need the very best, at this point its Gruden.

I see what your saying but going cheap is the reason were in the position we are in. From Kiffin to Dooley, going the cheap route in the SEC gets you 0-7 in the SEC and 1-14 the last 2 yrs with an OT win against Vandy being the lone win. Stoops would be worth the 5.5 if Gruden says no and Strong knows the SEC and how to recruit and coach in it. I really think Gruden is a done deal and will be worth every penny just from the revenue and excitement he would bring. Plus I bet the Spring game would be the largest in UT history. We just cant experiment again and even Butch Jones would scare me and Iwouldnt touch him. He is more of a UK type coach. JMO but we have to go big on this one with the state of the football program and the fans wont get back on board going cheap again.
