I see what your saying but going cheap is the reason were in the position we are in. From Kiffin to Dooley, going the cheap route in the SEC gets you 0-7 in the SEC and 1-14 the last 2 yrs with an OT win against Vandy being the lone win. Stoops would be worth the 5.5 if Gruden says no and Strong knows the SEC and how to recruit and coach in it. I really think Gruden is a done deal and will be worth every penny just from the revenue and excitement he would bring. Plus I bet the Spring game would be the largest in UT history. We just cant experiment again and even Butch Jones would scare me and Iwouldnt touch him. He is more of a UK type coach. JMO but we have to go big on this one with the state of the football program and the fans wont get back on board going cheap again.
Just because you pay a man more, does not mean he is a better coach. I don't think UT should go "cheap" with this hire. Just throwing top money at a guy to say you hired a top money guy makes little sense. Strong already is paid 1 million more than anyone in the BE. I just can't see paying him another million plus to come to the SEC when his resume is no better than Jones. Strong was an assistant in the SEC. That doe snot mean he would win here as a HC. There would need to be 8-10 guys tell me NO before Strong would be a consideration.
You don't KNOW this. Boise has also done very well in bowl games against all comers, including the SEC, with lesser talent. Just make him say no, thats all we are saying. To me, Gruden is like buying a pig in a poke, we just don't know how well he will do at the college level.:good!:No way..Gruden would recruit circles around them and would put an unreal staff together that would have the players coached at such a high level even if Gruden didnt coach 1 minute. Your only as good as your assistants and we have to have an elite recruiter at TN with the lack of HS talent in TN. I would take Patterson if Gruden, Stoops and Strong said no. Peterson isnt leaving so he's not even worth the call. He turned UF down he definitely wouldnt take UT's offer.
I'm not sold on Strong either. With the exception of this year, he has been average in the other two seasons at Louisville. Looking at Louisville's schedule this year, it is very weak and they got blown out by Syracuse. Not real impressive. Granted, he has improved Louisville's program, but that conference is not the SEC.
UPDATE: Arkansas is the first program to legitimately pursue former NFL head coach Jon Gruden.
"Jim Harris, THV 11's affiliate sports reporter, says the university has offered Jon Gruden the head coach position for the Razorbacks football team," THV 11 in Little Rock reported.
"Harris doesn't expect Gruden to take the offer, putting the odds at 'one in 10 or even one in 20.' He said Gruden may have shown a slight bit of interest and that 'Arkansas is swinging for the fences and making an offer.'"
Arkansas has to prove to its fanbase it's doing whatever it can to land the top candidates. Those candidates aren't likely to land in Fayetteville, but the team is at least making an effort.

What's that got to do about anything other that Arkansas really supports their state school considering the small population, top 25 attendance in football, basketball, and baseball. Another interesting aspect is that both Arkansas and Tenn depends on out of state recruits. Tenn surprizingly produces little elite D1 talent in football. Too many all white counties. Reminds me of when my city high school in Memphis played Obion Co. back in the 90's and they dressed 100 white boys and our entire squad of 35 ran all over them. Atlanta and the southeast is important to Tenn and Texas is important to Arkansas.
Fayetteville consistantly ranks in "best of" list for towns its size. Haters going to hate. But if you are really all that insecure, stop letting your women buy their clothes at WalMart, We Arkansans prefer Dillards.
STFU you guys have been trying to get rid of Richt after every loss for a decade now. "this is what's wrong with some UT fans" thanks DR. Phil
The only one soiling their panties will be Franklin after we hire a real coach. You guys had Doonan we had Dooley but it's over now. Give us a year or two and we will beat your ass and all you guys will be screaming for Richt's head on a block again. Like the great philosopher DD once said it's all cyclical.
Have you not heard it said from his people that he would take 2the college jobs if he ever went that route and its ND and TN. If he doesnt take UT then he wont be coaching college. I would bet anything I have he does not go to Ark. He may or may not end up at UT but WILL NOT end up at Arky. James Franklin and Gary Patterson dont want that POS job why are so many worried Gruden does?
