I thought Miles had that in his contract. If thats true I hope we pay Gruden over 6 or 7 and make Ala and LSU have to step up.

JMO but we have to go big on this one with the state of the football program and the fans wont get back on board going cheap again.

Just because you pay a man more, does not mean he is a better coach. I don't think UT should go "cheap" with this hire. Just throwing top money at a guy to say you hired a top money guy makes little sense. Strong already is paid 1 million more than anyone in the BE. I just can't see paying him another million plus to come to the SEC when his resume is no better than Jones. Strong was an assistant in the SEC. That doe snot mean he would win here as a HC. There would need to be 8-10 guys tell me NO before Strong would be a consideration.

I'm not sold on Strong either. With the exception of this year, he has been average in the other two seasons at Louisville. Looking at Louisville's schedule this year, it is very weak and they got blown out by Syracuse. Not real impressive. Granted, he has improved Louisville's program, but that conference is not the SEC.

You don't KNOW this. Boise has also done very well in bowl games against all comers, including the SEC, with lesser talent. Just make him say no, thats all we are saying. To me, Gruden is like buying a pig in a poke, we just don't know how well he will do at the college level.:good!:

If Arkansas even has a chance... they'd have to double today's offer. I mean lets face it... Who really wants to move to Arkansas? :birgits_giggle:

Yeah, but look where his program was before he got there. It wasn't like he stepped into a situation where he had the players to win on day one. Quite a few of their wins the last two years under Kragthorpe were against Sun Belt schools and FCS schools.

That's why I find him as an attractive candidate. Not a grand slam, but a good hire.

UPDATE: Arkansas is the first program to legitimately pursue former NFL head coach Jon Gruden.

"Jim Harris, THV 11's affiliate sports reporter, says the university has offered Jon Gruden the head coach position for the Razorbacks football team," THV 11 in Little Rock reported.

"Harris doesn't expect Gruden to take the offer, putting the odds at 'one in 10 or even one in 20.' He said Gruden may have shown a slight bit of interest and that 'Arkansas is swinging for the fences and making an offer.'"

Arkansas has to prove to its fanbase it's doing whatever it can to land the top candidates. Those candidates aren't likely to land in Fayetteville, but the team is at least making an effort.

Im not saying just go throw money at anybody. But Gruden and Stoops would be worth 5+ and would be HR hires. Nobody is guaranteed to win anywhere, its all a chance. But Strong knows the SEC and how recruiting works here. Dont know enough about Jones but he would be a risky hire like Dooley was. To me Gruden, Stoops,Mora, Patterson and Strong would be my top choices.Gruden and Stoops are the only 2 I would offer 5+ and pretty much whatever they needed for a staff. But if Hart was to hire Butch Jones or anyone comparable to him he would be job searching. But from the sound of it Hart isnt involved in this he is just being told to just chill and will be let known when the boosters are ready and sounds like its already a done deal with Gruden anyway. So all the talk about other coach's is meaningless and just for entertainment.

Must have played the wrong white boys. I know personally when I competed in sports, color didn't matter to me and I broke down just as many brothers as I did 'white boys'. Kill it with the race crap. You were going good and being very informative to you busted out that nonsense.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Word is that Arkansas has their next coach signed. A colleague in my firm (who I trust implicitly) in Fayetteville is best friends with the General Counsel for the U of A system. General Counsel confirmed that he had an executed contract in hand but would not reveal the name of the signatory until a date that will be determined in the future.

The rampant speculation is that they have hired Gundy with a 4-5 year deal in the 18-22 million range, which I believe doubles his salary. Hog fans are sold on the plausibility of this scenario because of some unhappiness between Gundy and the OSU AD. There are also beliefs that Gundy went to get another raise after Arkansas called and the T-Boone and the AD said no.

I usually don’t post things like this because I am not in the know but my colleague is and is usually spot on. TIFWIW, which I recognize is little of nothing.

P.S. There is a small but loud contingent of Hog fans that want Franklin. This makes me happy.
