Arnett Officially to Michigan State

I understand that some of you are not going to be happy about this. Starters do not usually transfer. The circumstances of cBaggett leaving makes it look even worse. But Arnett was leaving whether Baggett was still on staff or not.

This is very questionable. And I mean VERY....

This is very questionable. And I mean VERY....

DeAnthony Arnett chooses to play for Michigan State after release from Tennessee | MLive.com

a couple quotes from mlive.com article

State is only a 50-minute drive from my house."

Arnett asked for his release prior to leaving Tennessee for winter break, although he had thought about the decision since September.

"When I was recruited, my dad was doing better," Arnett said. "But in September, he started dialysis and everything became a struggle for him. He got really weak, really sick."

His father was not able to travel to Tennessee to watch Arnett play.

"I expect him to be at my games at State ... it's not a long drive at all," Arnett said.

Arnett hopes some of the rumors die now that the process is completed.

"I heard that I was only leaving because Coach (Charlie) Baggett left, but that's not true at all," Arnett said. "I actually talked to him about leaving in October, telling him about all the problems my dad was having back home.

"And it had nothing to do with me being homesick. Who has time to be homesick? When you're away like that, you don't have time to think about home. You get up at 6 a.m. meetings, practice, class, study hall, more meetings, homework. Being homesick was never an issue.

"Nobody on the outside really knew what was going on. It's between me and my family. I don't feel it's right for people to be judgmental about something they don't really know everything about."

I hope the kid never sees the field for them.

That's just spite and immature to boot. Personally I hope he starts, MSU has a good season and ---UT rebounds big time, meets MSU in a bowl in 2012 and Arnette meets a hard hitting Brewster and gang bang, oh about 12 times. And each time while under a pile hear the words, "Welcome back to the SEC, De." Then after the game which we win by 30 points, he has a delivery of black roses awaiting him at his locker. See, son, you got no, I mean no imagination. You only got spite.

My thoughts exactly. No hard feelings against him. Howard and Croom will ease any depth woes this may have caused.

Howard and Croom are yet to be signed and rumors are that Howard is likely to bolt. We shall see in the next 30 days.

Move on. Dooley did the right thing here regardless of Arnett's true intentions

I don't blame him for leaving. Anyone that has a parent that has passed away, I both, wish him well. Let's focus on the team and players here now.

That was worked out weeks ago.

The only reason he wanted to leave is because he already worked a deal with msu. Actually his brother did it on his behalf.

And its why he made such a big deal about getting a full release.
I don't think you even need insider knowledge to deduce all of that. I'm glad hes where he wanted to be, but I can't believe people are slightly buying the family angle.

Good for DD and great for Arnett. Wish him the best. Hope his father recovers and he has a great career.

When a coach leaves or a player transfers people on here act like jilted lovers. Grow up folks. Coaches leave and players leave. We were ecstatic when it worked in our favor.

If Arnett would have actually acted like a man and visited dooley face to face he would have been released sooner...texting and sending emails to media outlets to get your way...not so much. I will stand with dooley on this one. Dooley only released Arnett after he talked face to face. (Did this with b brown). Yes the dad is sick and I hope him only the best, but the dad was sick while he was in high school, shoud have stayed close to him and this never would have been an issue. Imo not that you asked but it is a message board...and let's also not forget the whole ccb issue, seems like he wanted a coach ,more than a program.

Yeah Dooley had no choice after the crybaby emailed ESPN. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Best of luck to the crybaby in the future. I'll be pulling for him.

Yeah...being dishonest, failing to uphold your commitments and putting yourself above team are great priorities

I'm just glad the little whiney crybaby got his way. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Best of luck you whiney little scum bucket.

On 104.5 this morning Hubbs had a great recommendation for the transfer rule. Basically, he argued that the NCAA should make a bright line rule I remove the power (real or perceived) that coaches wield when a current player wants to transfer. His suggestion was: (1) can't transfer within the conference and (2) can't transfer to a school that is currently scheduled to play against the player's current school within the player's remaining eligibility.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this Dooley's stance to begin with?

I feel for the kid and his situation, I really do. I wish no ill will on the kid and I hope his dad is healed or at the very least goes peacefully and pain free (don't know if it's that serious).

However.................if everything I've read about this situation is true, his dad was sick long before he signed anywhere. True or not true?

If that is the case, and he chose to to to school 600 miles away, in spite of his father's health, then he should have to do exactly what Alex Bullard, either go to a D-I school that is not on UT's schedule during his playing career, go to a D-II school and get a full ride, or go to a JUCO then transfer.

That may be cold and callous to some...not to me. I don't think those conditions exhibit apathy whatsoever. I think its the responsible and empathetic route.

i.e.: "we want you to be near to your family Mr. Arnett and we're going to do what we can to make sure that happens. We simply have some conditions we respectfully request you abide by...."

Karma is going to be a ***** for someone in this situation.

Either all you fools talking down to a kid for moving home to be with his father who had 2 heart attacks and is on dialysis, or if you morons are right, and Arnett is using his dad's sickness to get out of playing at UT.

Either way, someone is going to get railed on by the Karma train.

Good luck at Michigan State, and I hope his father gets well.

I wonder what God thinks about all these kids jumping ship? If I recall, did Arnett and Bryce Brown not say in their announcement when they picked UT that God told them both that is where they should be? Seems Bryce has struggled even more after leaving here. Trust in the lord.

If it was really about "family first", he would have been fine with going to a MAC school. It was obviously his number one priority to get to MSU..... I hope the new qb at MSU has a bad habit of hanging DA out to dry.

What some of you have a hard time understanding is that the MAC school is actually farther from his home than MSU.

When I was googling this, it was about 5 min shorter from center of Saginaw to center of Mt Pleasant than it was to go to E. Lansing. BUT, dArnett states that it is 50 min to MSU campus from his house, which puts him on the south end of Saginaw, and makes it closer to MSU than any MAC school. Just the facts.

Yall need to quit guessing what his priorities are.

This just in! Arnett had corn flakes for breakfast! Says that corn flakes in Michigan are WAAAAYYY better than those in Tennessee.

Dissed again!

If he is playing UT then we don't want him here either way. If he is dishonest about he reasons why he is leaving, if that's the way he rolls, that's pretty bad. I like to take people at face value and not me gullible, but to say a parent is sick, etc. that's about as low as you can go if he is a liar. Besides, Michigan State is a step down in my eyes.

.....local sports media helped Arnett with his transition by painting Dooley as heartless....in the future anyone who wants to skip on UT will have something to point to, and a media to back them......!

I think he could have been a good reciever here. However, if he really didn't want to be here he needed to go. Playing college ball is incredibly demanding and I can't help but think he would not have reached his full potential here if his heart was elsewhere. It always sucks losing a good player, but we'll gain another good one in this recruiting class and move forward. Good luck to him and his family.

These family issues are not made up. They were not there when he enrolled at UT. The relationship with the father was not as good when he enrolled at UT. Life changes. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

dArnett has stated many times that he is thankful for the time at UT. He is thankful for the friends, for the coaches, for the fans. This was a move that was 100% based on him and his family.

Am I glad he is at MSU, heck yes. I would be a fool not to be. But I would be just as happy for him if he was at um, or CMU. I would probably be happier for him if he was at Saginaw Valley State. But he is not.

I supported him at UT, I will support him at MSU. He is a good kid that gets some really crappy advice from people that he looks up to.

There are a couple WR prospect out there that just dropped MSU off their radar because Arnett is there. If I were you folks, I would start concentrating on them.

No need we have 3 4 star WRs committed in this current class.

Just a quick note and I am not pointing this at anyone here, and not really a response to anything except your comment about his heart being elsewhere.

You are right. 100%. If your heart is not in it, you should not be here. I followed this kid very closely during the recruiting stage out of HS. I grew up in MI, lived 10 min from Spartan Stadium. I love MSU. My kids lived there until my oldest's freshman year of HS. My kids LOVE MSU. They bleed green and white.

When my kid had to pick a college, and all things were equal: Academic Scholly and Honors College invite to both schools. Equal athletic opportunity at each school. Pretty close to equal program in her major (Pre-Vet) but MSU with the slight edge.

The one thing that tipped the scales: Family.

You can love a school, and love the idea of being there, and know that you would do well, even GREAT in that environment. But when you get 9 hrs away from your family, there are things you need to be prepared for. My kid wasnt ready to be 9 hrs away from her Mommy and Daddy. She is a Vol. And one you can all be proud of. She is representing your school very well, and with every piece of her heart.

If she had chosen MSU, I dont think she would have lasted more than 1 year there. Family means so much to some kids. And when things go wrong in the family, as they have in the Arnett family, it is tough. Very tough.

Fair enough. Sounds like you will be set. One of those kids just got some bonus playing time!

(I dont follow recruiting too closely because there is too much wrong with the star system. But I followed Arnett when it came down to MSU -v- UT. I hated that MSU missed out on him, but was glad that if he wasnt at MSU, at least he was at UT. I enjoyed following him and cBaggett. I will just have to watch UT football like regular folk now)

Paint this as some sort of dramatic family situation all you want...ultimately, it doesn't really matter if the family issues are at the heart of this or they truly played UT.

Dooley's delay and initial misgivings (which seems to be the main issue in this whole thing) were because his brother (and handler by most accounts) initiated the process.
