Arnett Officially to Michigan State

I understand that some of you are not going to be happy about this. Starters do not usually transfer. The circumstances of cBaggett leaving makes it look even worse. But Arnett was leaving whether Baggett was still on staff or not.

These family issues are not made up. They were not there when he enrolled at UT. The relationship with the father was not as good when he enrolled at UT. Life changes. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

dArnett has stated many times that he is thankful for the time at UT. He is thankful for the friends, for the coaches, for the fans. This was a move that was 100% based on him and his family.

Am I glad he is at MSU, heck yes. I would be a fool not to be. But I would be just as happy for him if he was at um, or CMU. I would probably be happier for him if he was at Saginaw Valley State. But he is not.

I supported him at UT, I will support him at MSU. He is a good kid that gets some really crappy advice from people that he looks up to.

There are a couple WR prospect out there that just dropped MSU off their radar because Arnett is there. If I were you folks, I would start concentrating on them.

So if Baggett just happens to end up at MSU what will you say then? I may be wrong but wasn't the three schools he was really looking at UM, MSU, and ND? I hope his dad recovers and DA does great at MSU but don't try to sell a line of junk about why he left. If one of the MAC schools were across the street from his dad's house he wouldn't have went to it.

I would have been in favor of giving this kid his release if I thought his motivation was for real, but the way he handled it was despicable. I don't believe in rewarding bad behavior or blackmailing a school in the media to get your way, so that was my issue with the situation. That, and the fact that he took up a valuable roster spot that could have gone to someone who wanted it and would have gone the distance. So he heads off to a school where he thinks he can get more PT and be the BMOC and our already-thin roster takes the hit. Oh, and UT is paying for the kid's online courses for spring semester, while he's 100% Spartan (and after he blasted us)-- and somehow, UT is the bad guy in all this. Unfrickingbelievable.

Not sure why he didnt transfer to Central Michigan. It's closer to Saginaw. Would put him super close to home.

But I agree, let him go, he didnt want to be here.

When he got the full release he was able to enroll anywhere. He is now enrolled at MSU for Spring Semester. There is no longer a need for online classes.

Please keep your hatred relevant.

If he didnt get his full release, I would have wanted him at CMU. It is only a little farther from his house than MSU. He stated that his home is 50 min from MSU campus. I think that is a pretty sound decision.

As for cBaggett:

OK, Im going to lay this one out just as I heard it.

This comes from a long time friend of mine who is an oldschool journalist (meaning, he gets his info the old fashioned way and doesnt spread blog rumors)

He is also good friends with Charlie Baggett. He covered MSU Football when Charlie played there, and coached there. He claims that there is about a 2% chance of Charlie ending up at MSU while Mark Dantonio is coaching there.

I dont know what that means. I dont know why, and I didnt ask. I am among the many MSU fans that would love to have Baggett back, but I dont believe it is goign to happen.

If you read the article that I posted earlier in this thread, dArnett is very complimentary of the Vol program, and what it did for him. There were plenty of comments yesterday on several sources where he spoke very highly of his time at UT.

I know yall are hurt that he left your program, but you should not be taking it as a personal slam. Arnetts brother handled this all wrong. And it stinks. It looked horrible. It was horrible. But that is not dArnetts fault.

He is a kid. He is trying to do what is right for his life. I would have wished him well wherever he went. I think he made the right choice for his family and for his future.

but yall will believe what you want anyways. carry on.

Never mind. But, really, are you not welcome on the Gator or MSU boards? Because you'd probably have relevance there. Unlike here.

I'm not hurt because he left. Like I said I hope the best for him and his dad. I will still stand by what I said if a MAC school was across the street he would have still went to MSU. I think that he was number three at Tennessee and got home sick and had an out that he used. Like Tupac said "I ain't mad at ya" but like Skid Row said also "you say it's raining but your pissin' down my back". We will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Solid cultural references here. :eek:k:

This is not the only board that I am on. And I am relevant here, as I have a kid who is in school, and an athlete at UT. Im not a big deal, by any means, but I am not out of my element here either.

I have tried to stay on the Around the NCAA board, but lately it has been interesting over here. Im not a vol hater, and quite frankly I wish dArnett was still a Vol. I will gladly take him at MSU, and I wish the best for him, but I wish he could have stayed. He was a good fit here.

But I understand the family issues. (I also believe the family issues, and that is the one thing that makes me different than a lot of you folks. That is ok)

Anyways, Im not a vol hater, never have been, and never will be. I simply do not understand some of the venom that is being aimed at a kid who, whether you believe it to be his reason or not, has a father with KNOWN health issues. Was it the reason he left? only dArnett knows. But we know there were major issues. We also know there were a few other issues with the family, Add it all together and I think that saying farewell, and good luck is probably the right thing to do.

When he was here he was part of the Vol Family. I just think that some people are being a little harsh. That is all.

hmmm...interesting. If CMU were in his hometown, I think there would have been a chance. Maybe 50/50. I dont know the kid personally. I know people that know him.

I have ZERO DOUBT about the homesick. He said he started to question whether he should transfer back in September, when his dad took a turn for the worse.

Man, a dad having 2 heart attacks and going on dialysis?? That would make me homesick.

I think we probably agree on more than it appears, but I just dont understand the harshness that some people are treating him with. He gave all he had while he was here. He appreciated the opportunity. And if he could get his brother to STFU, we would have had a much better time through all of this!

I don’t have anything against DA for leaving; it’s the way he left. Yes, his father is sick, and I feel very badly for the dad, but the kid’s behavior strongly indicates that PT is the primary factor. And you know what—I even get that. What I take issue with is him going behind the coaches’ backs and sending nasty emails to the media, effectively blackmailing UT into releasing him. That’s a punk move. UT was vulnerable to negative publicity, and the kid used that to get his way, not caring what damage he was doing to the program. I don’t care if he is a kid—that’s dirty.

If he’d handled it with a modicum of decency, most fans—myself included-- would have wished him well. But the way he left was deplorable, and THAT’s why people think harshly of him. It has nothing to do with hurt, and everything to do with respect. You feel differently, but then you’re not an alum who cares about this program.

Ugh, I gotta fly up to mishygun Monday, I dread it

What part of . . .. . mishygun. . . are you headed to?

Im originally from Lansing. Family is still there. The weather has been mild lately, and next week will be hanging out in the 30s. Good news is: Lows of only 32. Bad news: Highs around 38.

Winter up there sucks. It is a lot of the reason I am in TN. That and. . . well. . . work.

I 100% understand what you are saying. Im not an alum of THIS school, but I am an alum of another school. So I know the feeling. But you are sitting here talking calm and even being respectful about why you are ticked off, and that to me makes much more sense.

I understand that people are ticked off. I just think that some of the language is worded a bit harsh for the situation.

ALSO, I am 100% certain that the letters to ESPN, and the things that were in the media, were driven by Big Brother. dArnett is too level headed to mix that stuff up on his own. And he has too much respect for the University of Tennessee.

I wish he was still around. It gave me a connection to the program and helped me get past the gator bias that I have lived with for the past 38 years. Ive never been a Vol Hater, but it took a while to get me fully onboard with the Vol Football program. dArnett and cBaggett did a lot for me that way.

But I think yall have converted me to the point where Im not going away!

:good!::good!:
