AU-Freeze, will it happen?

i give it 75% chance his family talked him into not trading down Oxford to Auburn and about 25% chance Lane turned it down to make Jon Sokoloff look like an idiot
I never thought Kiffin would go to Auburn. He wants the Bama HC job, not Auburn. I also think Saban is far closer to retirement than people think. It wouldn’t surprise me if he called it a day after this season.

I agree. Kiffin and Saban have both thawed their relationship over the years and are much more friendlier.

And Bama being Bama will go into Post Saban era thinking they can hire any coach they call. Dabo will tell them no. Kirby will tell them no. Ryan Day will be such an odd ball, Brian Kelly is at LSU, Harbaugh is Michigan or bust.

Once Bama starts to see they can't indeed hire whoever they want, they will likely wind up consulting Saban on his replacement. As long as Kiffin is winning 8-10 games a year at Ole Miss, he will be a candidate.

Outside of Dabo and Kirby, who are the other "top coaches" out there:

Ryan Day - Not leaving OSU
Jim Harbaugh - Not leaving Michigan
Brian Kelly - Not leaving LSU
Lincoln Riley - Not leaving PAC12/BigTen for SEC
James Franklin - Could be candidate as Penn State will always be little bro to UM/OSU in the division
Jimbo Fisher - Flaming out at A&M
Mario Christobal - Trying to rebuild Alma Mater at Miami

The list goes on and on. With Kiffin, Bama can get a coach they know that would likely have sign off by Saban....

I just think the Bammers are going to go into the Post Saban coaching search and be shocked when they can't lock a coach down just by a phone call.

You guys and gals are going to be in for a shocker so let me go on record before this happens in the near future. Nick Saban hangs around for 2 - 3 more years to get one more record-setting naty. He then retires and hand picks his replacement. Who is it? Always Rippin....Lane Kiffin. This whole time Lane and Nicky had everyone thinking that they were enemies but the master plan was in motion many years in the making. And now it's time for my Sick Naban laugh..............hoo hoo ha ha ha ha ha ha.....man, I'm tired!

What would Heupel say if they offered?

What would Heupel say if they offered?

Of course. But I don’t think he’s in the Top 10 of coaches nationally. Not yet at least. He’s on the verge of breaking out. He’s way ahead of schedule and has set stage for making the jump to consistent national contention.

They’re saying it’s likely Hugh Freeze now. I think Lane told them no.
I think he was a fallback option. He doesn’t tell anyone no. He didn’t sign his extension with Ole Miss, and he even warned his team that his leaving was a possibility.

Was Stage 1 of the plan for Pruitt to gut the UT football program, or is that a different BAMA plan?;)

Where did he say to his team it was possible he was leaving? Didn’t see that reported anywhere. Was that part of the team meeting this week?

Last season the SEC/Sankey put the kibosh on Freeze returning to the SEC during silly season.
Why would it be ok for him to be hired 11 months later?
What am I missing here?

ESPN ticker just said Auburn has been in talks for weeks with Hugh Freeze but won't formally offer him the job until after the Iron Bowl.

I'm not so sure all those "not leaving" at schools wouldn't take Saban's call if he had hand picked them to follow him. That would be a damn hard offer to turn down for anyone. That said, following Saban is potentially like being a lamb to the slaughter.

I hope Kiffin takes it and gets run out of Tuscaloosa in about 3 years. I don't think Kiffin is the "machine running" kind of coach Saban is. He wants to be the only star and Saban has done what he's done by filling the room with really good assistants. Kiffin will be threatened by having too much coaching talent around him.

I think the Sankey putting a stop to Freeze story was bogus…

To this day, the only on record comments have been Sankey saying every school is responsible for coach hirings.

Of course with how turmoiled Auburn is, they can simply hire him without Sankey’s blessing. I’d imagine he’d get taken to court if he thinks he can just unilaterally block them from hiring Freeze

Lane trolled that guy after that post was made...Was hilarious.

I hope he goes scorched earth on that guy. Like one thing Kiffin did say is you can make stuff up via “sources” and face zero consequences if false.

IDK. A lot of the great coaches will know not to follow Saban. Take Dabo. He’s 2 out of 4 for CFP titles. He’d have to win 3-4 at Bama just to get out of Saban’s shadow. I don’t know if fans will acknowledge that being a turnoff to the job. I do think Kiffin would gladly take that job and then he finally gets to show if the hype is legit or not. I do think recruiting would stay consistent. So he’d be at a program with virtually any advantage needed to win titles. Just comes down to the coach.

Saban gets a lot of credit and he's obviously a helluva recruiter and manager but he's had some very, very talented football minds around him.

Dabo is cut from the same cloth as Saban, running the program but not threatened by having great assistants. He didn't let his ego get in the way

Kiffin isn't that kind of guy. He's always got to have the spotlight on him and how talented and clever he is. He's the anti-Saban personality.

This guy is doubling down on his shotty reporting. You don’t say “Kiffin to Auburn IS happening” and then it falls apart and say “oops things change”…… journalism been dying for a while but man this is just utterly dumb by this guy

Oh of course. That’s why Bama would offer him greatest chance to prove if his style works or not.

At Ole Miss, he will never have a formidable defense to have those games where they can bail the offense out if needed. I’ve always thought it was odd how MSU can have a stout defense but Ole Miss for years has always had a thin and lightweight defense over multiple
Coaches.

There's a reason he's in Starksville, I bet. That's a plum job for a sports reporter, eh?
