Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

Is this new information that just came out?

Late last night. Two different people told NCAA that Cam and his father said it was about money or to that effect. Auburn is now turning a blind eye to the situation, which in the end will be reflected in their final punishment.

They just have to find the implication that Auburn paid Cecil. You thought USC got it rough? Auburn might get the closest thing to the death penalty since SMU.

I'd like to thank Auburn for playing in the 2010 college football season, but there shall, indeed, be no national championship hopes if Cam Newton is suspended.

Im not sure they did turn a blind eye. Its possible they were involved. If thats the case it won't matter.

If that is true, the AA won't care that they drug this out 10 games then come to Jesus.

Auburn is so screwed...

Well, the problem is they are now digging a hole. First, the press conference yesterday was kind of dumb with Newton... it went over like "I did not have sexual relations with that woman".

LSU had this type of guy... Ryan Perrilloux. You have to cut the cord on these type of guys, they can bring down your whole program.

Yes they will. Just like they hammered USC. USC wasn't hammered so much for Reggie Bush getting paid, it was more about the university turning a blind eye. Go read the reports.

When in doubt you pull the player. This will not be tried in a court, either Auburn is cooperating or they are not and the NCAA will make a determination if Auburn is turning a blind eye. Watch the circus over the next 2 months if they don't pull him.

I don't think they'd go that far. Auburn hasn't committed two major infractions in 5 years. Or at least I'm pretty sure of that.

Of course, I was the guy that said that USC wasn't going to get much either.

I would think the penalties on Auburn would be much worse especially if it is the reported 200,000.

The point of all this is that Auburn paid Newton's family for his commitment. The NCAA is cognizant of this.

I agree with what you are saying, but if AU was involved there is no doubt to be had. Sounds like they have decided to ride it out and hope for the best. Ain't sounding good.

True. It'll be bad, but it won't be SMU bad. Might be along the lines of USC. Of course, SC just turned a blind eye to things - Auburn flat out paid for his services.

All I know is if everything, or even a lot of things I've heard are true, Auburn football is about to be a whole lot less relevant for a long, long time.

I have seen no evidence that the AU coaches were involved nor did they have information that Cam was paid to go to AU, but that changed last night.

Whether Cam was paid, hasn't been determined, but everything points to YES at this point. At this point it is the responsibility of the school to get this under control.

LSU canned Ryan P. and a 4-star DT doing this stuff. Whether we agree with or not, the school is responsible and they should take action when they have enough information to say it's might be credible.

Just my take.

And to the people that said would you get rid of your star QB, yep, LSU did. Dumped Ryan like an old penny. You have to do what you have to do, or else your whole program can go down the crapper.

If they can find the implication that money was paid and that it was over 100,000 then I don't think it will be the closest thing to the death penalty since SMU...

It will be the death penalty. New and improved just for Auburn.

Pretty sure that a few of their assistants including Trooper committed a major violation which resulted in not being able to recruit for a little bit.
