Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

True. It'll be bad, but it won't be SMU bad. Might be along the lines of USC. Of course, SC just turned a blind eye to things - Auburn flat out paid for his services.

All I know is if everything, or even a lot of things I've heard are true, Auburn football is about to be a whole lot less relevant for a long, long time.

Will be at least as bad--probably worse.

They just have to find the implication that Auburn paid Cecil. You thought USC got it rough? Auburn might get the closest thing to the death penalty since SMU.

You mean like this:

After Newton committed to Auburn, another source said an emotional Cam Newton phoned another recruiter to express regret that he wouldn't be going to Mississippi State, stating that his father Cecil had chosen Auburn for him because "the money was too much."

If they can find the implication that money was paid and that it was over 100,000 then I don't think it will be the closest thing to the death penalty since SMU...

It will be the death penalty. New and improved just for Auburn.

Who should the SEC go after to be the twelfth member? :post-4-1090547912:

It'll be worse if the amount is in six figures.

Clay Travis just tweeted that some dude fron ESPN Dallas is reporting the AA will suspend Newton in the next 3 or 4 hours. Edit...just saw TW had already linked it...my bad

I have seen no evidence that the AU coaches were involved nor did they have information that Cam was paid to go to AU, but that changed last night.

Whether Cam was paid, hasn't been determined, but everything points to YES at this point. At this point it is the responsibility of the school to get this under control.

LSU canned Ryan P. and a 4-star DT doing this stuff. Whether we agree with or not, the school is responsible and they should take action when they have enough information to say it's might be credible.

Just my take.

And to the people that said would you get rid of your star QB, yep, LSU did. Dumped Ryan like an old penny. You have to do what you have to do, or else your whole program can go down the crapper.

Time will clear up all of it.

There is a lot that will be killed, and revealed over time.

I agree with what you are saying, Im just not sold that if true, that AU didn't have a hand in it.

Pretty sure that a few of their assistants including Trooper committed a major violation which resulted in not being able to recruit for a little bit.

First I've heard of that.

Ok, maybe they might get something close to a death penalty-like ruling.

Rumor has it that the Newtons learned this from Meyer-Tebow. Wonder what that deal was worth.

What's the risk? The damage, if there is any, has already been done.

true..but continuing to play him and if anything comes out of this would be like spitting in the ncaas face and would only hurt them worse in the long run

Why not just risk it and go for it now? This is the best shot that Auburn's got for a while.

SMU was already on probation, and the payments were widespread. The 'AA won't hand out the death penalty anymore.

However, based on what the 'AA gave USC for merely ignoring what a rogue ex-convict agent was doing hours away from campus, Auburn ought to get blown away if this turns out to be true.

I would typically agree, but Joe Schad is a pretty respected journalist so its not like it Douche McGouche posting it to a blog in his parents basement. Too much smoke not to at least be a little fire.

OK; however, all parties knew about this last January. Why then is it at this point in the season, with Auburn contending for the BCS and Cam leading the Heistman race, the info comes to light? Why does it take two weeks after the initial report for the two MSU recruiters to spill? Last I checked, a Shad was fish bait.
