Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

What would happen if Daddy sold his son without his knowledge or consent? They are reporting Cam's father told him to go to Auburn and he really wanted to go to Mississippi State.

Except if part of the Cam inquiry is that we paid cash but simply lost out in the bidding, explaining our odd sudden loss of supposed interest in Newton about the same time the NCAA said they were coming to town. Attempting to buy a player ain't as bad as actually buying him, but it ain't good either; so let's hope this story stays just in the Plains, but don't bet on it being so.

How ironic would it be if the Gators were one of the few schools who actually recruited Newton honestly and fairly...and then ended up with him?

Kinda makes you nauseous, huh?

This situation between the Newtons, Mississippi State, and Auburn is getting ugly very fast. That much, I can say.

I can't wait to see what kind of hand signal / gesture UGA's Grantham will be flashing at Newton this weekend!

Let's say Newton offered pay-to-play to schools, but never actually received any money from Auburn or MSU or whomever. Is that an NCAA violation?

So, hypothetically, (utgibbs favorite line of reasoning), if Simms were pay to play. How much would he owe the school?

I'm not sure, but enough that his dad would need to start working again and that we could probably go after Bill Cowher for our next hire.

Here's the part I don't get . . . I keep hearing and reading comments from Cam and Cecil like

"I'm not going to confirm nor deny nothing that has been taking place,"
I know I'm parsing words, but that's the wrong answer. The answer either has to be "The allegations are 100% false" or "I'd love to answer the question, but due to this being an ongoing investigation, I have to decline comment."

Auburn and the Newton family need to put a lid on this thing and channel all statements through a spokesman rather than feeding the press daily snippets from Cam, Cecil, Chizik etc.

If money did change hands, most likely did, I would find it hard to believe that the AU booster, coaches or whoever else was involved didn't cover their tracks. The AA will find alot of dirty laundry but no smoking gun.

Schools/boosters have been using using churches for years now to funnel money to recruits. Everyone knows it's going on but the AA can't do anything about it.

Drew Rosenhaus to the rescue!

I remain contrarian on this - there isn't enough "there" there.
C'mon, bham... I know there's zero to convict Cam right now, but where there's smoke... And this is looking like Mt. St. Helens right about now. Given we already know about the schools donation to Cecil's parish (IIRC), it's not that big of a jump to simply lining his pockets. Based purely on what you've heard, bottom line, do you really, truly, honestly feel that Cam did or did not accept money from Auburn or people associated with Auburn to play football there?

explain to me where Auburn has been implicated in this Cam story so far? cus seriously, I missed it.

All over College football tonight. Supposed quotes from Can and dad "I wanted to go to Mississippi State but the money was too good."
