I understand the point, but I disagree with the logic. If Auburn knows he has been paid then they have known it for the first half of the season as well. Other than the number of forfeited games, I cannot imagine that the punishment will change. Of course the NCAA is not known for its' logic.
Are you saying that the punishment increases with the notoriety?
The punishment goes along with the crime, Auburn is turning a blind eye NOW, everyone knows when in doubt you bench the kid. If he were a long-snapper he would be sitting on the bench. I have seen no evidence that Auburn knew he was getting paid prior to the season.
Yes, the punishment will be much more serious... all you have to do is go look at the NCAAs report on USC. It wasn't that Bush got paid, most of the punishment was the school not doing their job and turning a blind eye. LSU was paying a player last year by a COACH, yet no NCAA sanction, why? LSU got rid of them right away. This isn't rocket science, it's up to the school to regulate itself and when they fail to do it and fail to use common sense, yes, the world and the NCAA will see right threw it.
The punishment is going to look like chump change if he shows up for the Heisman and Auburn shows up for the BCS.
I think you're just hoping they'll sit him now because Auburn needs to lose two in order for LSU to have a shot at an SEC championship.
True LSU MIGHT have a shot. That is irrelevant. Punishment will be harsh beyond words if they continue on with this circus... just watch. If it were LSU, LSU fans would be screaming to bench him.
If the athlete department doesn't know what the consequences of continuing to play him. This will be Auburn's 8th Major NCAA violation. And now you have a school ignoring the obvious.
