Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

Dont worry Milo, Auburn is going down. You dont have this many accusations without there being truth to them.

1)Mississippi State is not going to push out false information just because they are mad that Cam didnt sign with them. They have dirt on him, no doubt. They would be hanging themselves out to dry if they werent true. Mike Slive would have their asses for making false claims against another institution in the SEC. He gets is panties in a wad when the coaches talk bad about officials

2) ESPN is not putting their reputation on the line based on unreliable information. Their sources are many and connected. They are not getting their info from message boards or scourned ex-girlfriends.

3) Auburns AD is way too quiet on this whole thing. Has he even had a press conference concerning the accusations? His first response should be that we have heard the accusations against Auburn and are working to get to the bottom of this. But so far, nothing. Not Good!!

The question is whether the 'AA can get something done during this season, or if it will be one of their typical multi-year ordeals. The difference is that most cases involve very carefully covered up tracks.

This is like following elephant tracks in 2 feet of snow

Just listened to Finebaum on XM. His tone seems to have changed today and he seems somewhat resigned to the fact that something illicit probably happened, but he's definitely holding back. It was pretty funny and telling clue though when he asked a mock rhetorical question about who could be in trouble as far as coaches go . . . and then said he needed to go to break and hoped he could "find somebody with a towel" so he could wipe his brow.

Jay Jacobs is regurgitating the same lines as Chizik. Or vice versa. AU better have some well-covered tracks.

C'mon, bham... I know there's zero to convict Cam right now, but where there's smoke... And this is looking like Mt. St. Helens right about now. Given we already know about the schools donation to Cecil's parish (IIRC), it's not that big of a jump to simply lining his pockets. Based purely on what you've heard, bottom line, do you really, truly, honestly feel that Cam did or did not accept money from Auburn or people associated with Auburn to play football there?

It's really the same info over and over. Miss State says he was being shopped to them. I'm not sure what we know about Auburn's donation to the church - perhaps I've missed some known facts there.

I would think that if he was being shopped to Miss St then there would be some record (recording perhaps) to that effect. As of now, we have 1 allegation that has been repeated 3 different ways with no proof offered.

I do agree with GAVol though that Finebaum's tone has changed a bit. As much as I hate him, this is his one area of expertise. Still though he is much more low key about this than he has been about other similar situations.

Let's say I'm more open to it now but still waiting for more than accusations.

Again I could be way off but any reaction is going to be scrutinized. People are saying Chizick protested too much; others saying not enough.

Chizick's arse is ground zero if any of these allegations turn out to be true. He might as well deny the house is on fire no matter how much smoke is there.

Drew Rosenhaus to the rescue!

Seriously, its not like these allegations are against Tim Tebow. This is not rocket science.

If this comes out bad, Chizik is going to look the worst, and like the fool we all thought he was.

What the heck does he have to lose? He is screwed if Auburn goes down anyway. They would gut the whole staff and AD. He has no way out so why not stick to his guns? I think in the end the NCAA will burn Auburn to the ground over this scandal.

Completely not true. If Auburn pulls him which it looks like they are not, then they look like they are trying to get the situation under control. As far as I am concerned, Auburn hasn't done anything wrong unless they continue to play him. There was enough information that came out for Auburn to make a judgment. There punishment is going to reflect them turning a blind eye to what is going on.

You don't keep playing a player you suspect of being ineligible unless you want to go down like the Titanic. Auburn fans should be screaming at the AD right now because the coach is nuts.

I felt bad for Auburn at first, but now they are just burying their head in the ground... now they deserve what they are going to get.

If $200,000 was distributed to Mr Newton, I think they are screwed either way. Of course that doesn't change the fact that Barners are in complete denial. Denial is universally the first of five stages of grief.

i bet tums and pepto sales have skyrocketed around the town.

one lady on rivals radio called in and said something to the effect of "Cam didnt steal a laptop, he just bought a stolen laptop and threw it out the window when the cops came." she said that in his defense, lol.

Yeah that makes it all better that he did it that way:unsure: Morals take a back seat to winning games and people really could care less as long as you're winning games. Case in point Florida. If they hadn't been as successful these last few years all those arrests would have been under a microscope.

Well nobody is going to say they are not screwed... but now they are screwing themselves. Every game he plays now will be reflected in their final punishment, I would suspect if they continue to play him and he goes to the Heisman ceremony and they are BCS what USC got will look like chump change. They are producing a circus.

The AD better think about getting on this. They are digging a hole they won't be able to get out of.

I understand the point, but I disagree with the logic. If Auburn knows he has been paid then they have known it for the first half of the season as well. Other than the number of forfeited games, I cannot imagine that the punishment will change. Of course the NCAA is not known for its' logic.

Are you saying that the punishment increases with the notoriety?

Sitting him is an admission of guilt. They've gone the route of denial and have no choice but to stick to their guns now.

If they paid him, they're effed whether they sit him now or not. You think an inmate on death row gives a damn about hitting a corrections officer? What's he got to lose?

I think you're just hoping they'll sit him now because Auburn needs to lose two in order for LSU to have a shot at an SEC championship.
