Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

The dad may have violated Mississippi agent laws. If so, he can get his punishment at Parchman. If Cam Newton knew anything about what was happening, and considering his history as a thief and running from charges of cheating on his grades many of us are going to have a hard time believing that he didn't know about what his dad was doing, the NCAA and SEC really have only one shot left to penalize him for his actions. Anything they do after the season and BCS games will be irrelevant.

And you expect either to come through now?

This is far from over.

And the loophole is not nearly as big as Clay is making it out to be. The kid and the school he is attending need to be ignorant of what the parent did, not just the kid. So basically, the loophole only works in situations where a parent asks for money and is denied by school A, then the kid ends up at school B, and school B was never asked for money and is unaware that school A was asked.

I still think Cam will be ruled ineligible once the NCAA completes their investigation into Auburn's recruitment of Cam.

They were saying on ESPN that does not mean the case is a closed book. If anything else is to come up there still could be consequences.

I can't wait for USC apologists to explode, claiming that this is no different than the Reggie Bush saga

Auctioning your kid off to the highest bidder is worse than getting your rent paid IMO.

Bush's parents look like idiots. Cecil looks like a lying POS.

completely agree. newton is far worse. bush's parents took money from an agent 150 miles away. yes usc should have known, but this is ridiculous.

Josh Ward just posted this:

If MSU had paid Cecil and Cam still went to Auburn, would he be eligible as long as Cam and Auburn didn't know?

Well, time to start the VN Slush Fund and start negoitating with prospective recruits' parents about what it's going to take to get them here.

So does this mean that 5 star recruits will be auctioned by Sotheby's while 2 star recruits will be sold at yard sales?

seriously, if we start paying the mom's while the kid and Dooley don't know recruiting will sky rocket faster than Trooper can waive that towel.

I see Auburn fans rejoicing over this, which is understandable, but it makes me despise everything about their shady program.

Shouldn't Slive feel the same way about Bruce Pearl? I mean, Tennessee is one of two teams carrying the SEC basketball banner this year. Yes, he broke the rules, but doesn't winning trump all else?

No. Slive detests Mike Hamilton and wants to smack UT Athletics whenever possible.

At this point, I hope Auburn gets the death penalty...

UNBELIEVABLE. So in return for the money Cam signs with Auburn, not MSU where HE wanted to go... Mike Slive says this is ok, however, lieing about a secondary violation gets a coach suspended for 8 conference games...

Lying about a secondary violation is a major violation.

They concluded that Cam was indeed "shopped around" but Cam himself didn't know about it.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha the NCAA is an embarrassment.

And in terms of precedent, they may have just opened a can of worms, where any future recruit can just claim ignorance toward improper dealings and let his shady Uncle Rico take the blame. Unbelievable!
