Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

The conduct of Cam Newton’s father and the involved individual is unacceptable and has no place in the SEC or in intercollegiate athletics,” said Mike Slive, Southeastern Conference Commissioner. “The actions taken by Auburn University and Mississippi State University make it clear this behavior will not be tolerated in the SEC.”

What actions did Auburn take? None that I can tell. They didn't even bench him until they did a full investigation. Slive is an idiot. This is just more proof of that fact.

Georgia and UCS should ***** and moan for the next 10 years. This is a joke. If Pearl or our football team get any more punishment I might not watch another non UT NCAA event again.

This is a joke.

I don't know if Auburn's at fault, but Newton should still be ineligible.

you, me, everyone else = ???????
I think that an NCAA investigator gave his opinion that the rules would be interpreted to attribute pay for play solicitations by a parent to the student athlete because the NCAA doesn't want to get into the business of investigating this inter-family type stuff. Guess they just got in that business.

guys. WHY YOU MAD?

tennessee has a ton of money....

recruiting just got that much easier for Dooley.

we'll be back on top in 2 years if our boosters will just pony up.

Let the flood gates open up, I mean cash gates. Basically, the NCAA is admitting there isn't anything they can do. Don't pay A, pay B, and let B pay A.

“The actions taken by Auburn University and Mississippi State University make it clear this behavior will not be tolerated in the SEC.”

What? No action was taken buddy. This ruling actually means that behavior is not only tolerated but is now encouraged.

How? Why? For What? Are you for the scums to be able to do whatever they want in life and get away with it without consequences?

1. I like cam newton he is exciting to watch. 2. I have never had a problem with auburn and the newton situation doesn't impact that. There is also no proof that newton had any knowledge of what was going on so it would be unfair to punish him for no reason.

I dont think we've heard the last from the NCAA. Look at the UNC issues that's going on with their football program. I think the NCAA is taking their time to compile all evidence before they drop the hammer on the respective school. Where there is smoke there is fire. They have a lot of research to do into auburns books as well as the boosters. They also have to look into how Cam's father got those renovations done on that church when he didnt have the money before. So be patient and let due process proceed. I do believe theres something thats going to come of this. I just hope its not way after Auburn has won a national title and Cam a heisman trophy.

since Cam plays for Auburn, how are those two things distinct?? And I still don't get how Slive distinguishes what a player's father did from the player?

Because if Auburn didn't pay him, and actually didn't know (which I'm not speculating on because I'm not in the know), then how can you punish a school for that?

Newton should definitely be ineligible, but if Auburn didn't themselves contribute to that I find it hard to punish them.

So anyone that ever wants to play for pay in college can just get a family member to ask for money and play ignorant and the NCAA will let them play. This is a bunch of BS! Cam new exactlly what was going down and the NC double a$$ holes have to know this. Thats dirty dirty to me. Sounds like somebody should investigate the NCAA!

It is a bit confusing, but since I think the rules are dumb in the first place I don't really care. Players should get paid. They are being exploited. They have no evidence that Newton's Father received money or benefit. I'm sure they would have deemed him ineligible had it gone that far (or had there been proof it went that far).

Allegedly, there is a recorded phone call that says otherwise.

Regardless, assuming CAM knew nothing about this being naive to the point of stupidity.

So did USC know in their situation, but Auburn didnt know in this one??

Okay, so Slive openly says that "unacceptable behavior" was involved, and that it won't be tolerated, but am I the only one wondering what Slive & Co. have actually done to show that it won't be tolerated? As far as I can tell, Auburn is getting no punishment whatsoever. Do these people think we're stupid?

Every mom and dad is going to show up at the schools wanting cash now, watch. This is so going to be fun to watch.

who's the idiot bashing a kid?

For the record, Newton is no saint. This is the kid who was booted from Florida for steeling a lap top, I believe (if wrong sorry but something similar), was reported to have been caught cheating multiple times, and now this.

I get that his dad supposedly was the one asking for the money, but there's no way he had no idea. Plus you don't think if daddy is getting paid for his play that Cam isn't seeing some of this money!?

You're not defending an innocent kid here...

Translation:

1) you like criminals and cheaters

2) Institutions that are plagued with a history of law breaking doesn't bother you. And your really naive about Cam's knowledge of Auburn.
