Many Pearl haters will not see this post but I will make it nonetheless. So this goes out to you uninformed, doubting, hating, clueless posters on Volnation who were dead wrong about CBP and his job opportunities. You all know who you are and will probably never admit to being wrong about him and his coaching career.
So I will state that I was right that a university can hire a coach who is under a show cause order and that there are no "other" penalties that arise to a university who hires said coach unless that coach or university violates the terms of the "Order" in this case prohibitions against recruiting.
Moreover, those of you who said Pearl would have to go the mid-major route were also wrong. Auburn may not have a strong record of NCAA basketball, but it by no means is a mid-major job, and the $2 million salary is nothing to sneeze at either. The SEC is ripe for the picking and I am confident that Pearl will start hand picking players out of the ATL as soon as his show cause expires or is lifted by petition to the AA.
Pearl will have success at Auburn sooner than later; I only wish that UT's administration had the back bone and moxy to due what Auburn did. Pearl is and has been a winner from the beginning of his head coaching career and he will turn Auburn's program around just like he did Tennessee's. Hopefully when the UT Athletic Dept tires of CCM's lack-luster performance, they will hire a coach as good (or at least nearly as good) as Bruce Pearl.
When CBP was fired by UT, they hired a coach on the cheap who had never been to the tournament. Since then we have endured 3 years of mediocre basketball and next year will be worse.
Regardless of what some of you say, you cannot blame UT's basketball record under CCM on the fans or on CBP. The blame rests squarely on the head coach - CCM. Had CCM won 2 more games each of the last three years, the Vols would have been squarely in the NCAAT with no discussion of a play-in game. And that is all on CCM.
I say good luck to CBP; I have already purchased an Auburn visor and am on the look-out for some Auburn basketball gear. Maybe over the next 12 months CCM will get blown out and Tennessee which actually hire a better than average coach for their basketball program.
I have made my last donation to UT for my season basketball tickets and will not purchase season basketball tickets next year or until CCM is blown out and UT hires a coach worth his salt.
