Bad Beats, Monster laydowns...Poker discussion

Uhhhh, no. I love sitting at a table with loose players that stay in with trash. They may suck out every now and then, but I'll be leaving with all their money at the end of the night.

True...it is frustrating when they win, but more often than not they lose.

amazing that this is so consistent on every message board I've ever read. Someone posts a thread whining about some great injustice in their life, they don't get responses that back their position and they get defensive/throw insults/claim everyone doesn't understand etc.

and I'm taking CLK's approach- love me or hate me, you know my name :)

Nice reply....tell'em CLK :)

I play poker quite often, so I understand the frustration by the first poster.... but seriously. quit whining and play the game. If you play it right eventually the good players get weeded out from the poor ones.

You hit the nail on the head Carter,as for Jamie Gold I could beat that man in a hand if I was an ape.

How many bracelets do you have?
Jamie Gold has one and so does Chris Moneymaker and Jerry Yang.

I think the days of the big names pros winning the Main Event are over.

The pros still do well in the smaller tournaments. The ME is a crap shoot.

Bump for WSOP.

A buddy of mine is in this year's main event. Made it out of day 1 with 36k in chips.

Buddy of cotton update:

Made it to day 3 with about 60k chips, fairly close to the average stack. I would post a link, but I can't get the scoreboard to work right--I only get around 165 of the 2k players left. If anybody knows where to get better info, I'd be happy to know it.

Update was via text message; he resumes play again today.

Good luck to your buddy, cotton. Keep us posted.

I will; he's a really nice guy, and an interesting story. He and his wife immigrated from Canada and attained citizenship about 5 (?) years ago. He is also a world class water-skier who competes at the professional level. His wife is a body-builder and, although new to the circuit, is having some success.

He also goes by "Joe." I had no idea his name was Robert until I saw it on the WSOP board.

Bad update today. Joe is out, had KK cracked on the second hand of the day to short stack him. Built it up to about 6,000 again and again found KK. Bad guy found AA, so he's busted.

Anyway, no trip to Vegas for me this year.

3 friends of mine were in the ME this year. First one, Bryan Micon, was out early day 2. Lance Harris busted out this afternoon, I think. The 3rd guy, Gibb, was around $250K this afternoon and having a good time. Hopefully he hangs around for awhile.

Lance sat next to Hank Azaria for awhile. Said he's funny and a nice guy. Duh.

Came close to a nice bad beat jackpot last night. It was at Melbourne Greyhound track. Here's the action:

Game is $1/2 NLHE. Bad beat jackpot is $55k, aces full of jacks beaten to qualify. Table is a bunch of nits. Multiple limpers to me on the button and I look down to KK. Raise to $17, which is very high for this table.

BB, the nittiest of the nits, looks down at his cards and stiffens up. He calls. I know I need another K at this point.

Flop K-9-2. He bets $15, I call.

Turn another K. Woot woot. He bets $15, I call, secretly rooting for one of the two aces on the river....

Alas, it was not to be. River a blank.

(Post script: He led for $15 again, I made it $75, and he tells me he figures me for quad kings but can't bring himself to fold AA).

So this weekend I played some 1/3 and some 2/5 at Tampa Hard Rock. Two brutal hands:

First one, at 1/3, I have AQ in BB. Its multilimped and I go to $17, two callers.

Flop is A-K-9. I lead out for $40, button shoves for $150ish, I call. He has A-9. But I bink a K on the turn, and take the lead. He has two outs, the 9's. And gets one of them on the river. FML.

Later, I'm at 2-5 with $400ish in front. The big stack (approx $1700) raises pre to $35. The SB calls. I look down to 99 and decide to set mine.

Flop is 10-9-2. Bingo!

I lead for $50. The original raiser calls, the SB folds.

Turn a 7. I check, the big stack checks. I am now putting him on an overpair of QQ, KK, or AA and he's worried I have in fact flopped a set.

River A. This makes me unhappy, although I figure now I'm getting paid off by A-K or A-Q, which are in his range given the action to date.

I lead again for $50. He tanks, and raises to $250, effectively putting me all in. I mulled folding for a second, announced I flopped a set and was worried he had AA but it was $200 into a pot of $600 and his range was split between AA and A-K or A-Q. So I called.

He had AA.

Not a good session.
