Bad Beats, Monster laydowns...Poker discussion

our neighborhood game is tonight...hoping to do as good tonight, as last month...won $350.00, in the cash game...

but really need to do well in the tournamnet, so I can make the final table for the chance to go to WSOP
Good luck with that. It would be really cool to have a Volnational at the WSOP.

Did your neighborhood have a game going when you moved there (didn't you move from Arkansas within the last few years)?

yes, I've been here 2.5 years...

and this is the second year of the neighborhood running 6 tournaments (once a month), $120, buy in, and usually 18-20 of us.

It only pays put $300 and $100 for first and second, with most of the money going into the kitty, to pay the $10,000 buy in for the WSOP..

I finshed 5th last year

I had my biggest win last Friday at a friendly neighborhood game. 23 people, 3 tables, 3 turn/river boats and a nut flush to take down some very skilled players. I even pulled a strong counter-tell. It was a lot of fun, and my wallet the next morning earned me a hall pass with the wife for a month or two.

won the tournament for $300, but lost $60 in the cash game..We had 18 players...I'll give a $100 to my wife and she'll buy a couple of Wii games for the kids, so everybody's happy...
and regardless of how i do in the next 3 tornaments I'll be in the final table

and I'm really hammered..shouldn't drink so much, I was actually up a couple of hundred in the cash game and lost it all

but that's poker

$2/$4 tables in Vegas were a steal. It was insane how willing the old timer locals were to give me their money.

People call anything and everything, which can get frustrating, because you get beat a lot with a winning hand, but if you just stick to your guns and raise like hell when you get the nuts, you can make money.

I didn't make crazy money, but every time I sat down at a table, I walked away with more than I had. Even if it was only $5.

My best round was at a $2/$4 hole 'em table where I sat down with $100 and cashed out with $140. I'll take it, considering I got probably $30 worth of free drinks, and had to overcome tips and 5% rake.

Also, a guy at the table RIGHT EFFING NEXT TO ME hit a club royal, and got $20,000. The whole table got $1,000.

I picked the wrong table. We were the only other active table in the room, it was early. He walked over and gave each of us $100. That was pretty nice of him.

I wasted it learning to play craps :(

I'm jealous of you Thrasher! What's been the best part so far? And what is something unexpected (about Vegas) you've ran into?

Played my first actual game of hold 'em tonight and won. I had no idea what I was doing early on. I was down to hardly anything early, then bluffed my way to a big pot. After that the cards started falling my way and I played more conservative.

I have found this to be true every time I hit up Vegas or Tunica. If you have 2 or 3+ hours to sit there, you can stay ahead of the rake if you hit a couple hands each hour. Just hang tight til a good one comes and you can generally get paid off by 2nd best and maybe worse.

All-in A-6s before the flop with a very short stack, 5 callers, flop 6-x-2 rainbow. one person bets and the rest fold, he turns over 6-2o, turn - A, woo-hoo! river - 2, sonofa! woulda won 5x and been right back in the game.

Please tell me he was BB. What are people doing playing some of these hands? I would think someone on a NL table would be smarter than that.

I get beaten by hands like those all the time on low limit tables, though.

nope, late position

how big of a stack did he have...sometimes I play like that if the all in is a small percentage of my stack and the chance I can knock them out

I would have won a tournament that I ended up placing second in if I had done this.

I had a pretty big chip lead and the two other players had similar stacks. They both went all-in ahead of me.

I look down at 7-2 off and muck it.

Flop comes 7-7-2.

That player doubled up again on an all in where I had a decent hand and eventually beat me.

Currently playing in Poker Maximus event #61 on Carbon. $10+1 $20k

Still layover with only 1100 runners. I'll update if still in it around 6 or 7

Who here lives by or makes a trip to play live poker, and where?

I don't want to overlook anywhere, with the closest to me are Tunica, Biloxi, Hammond. Any suggestions, experiences, or reviews?

I play at the casinos here in CO, but very rarely. too many people catch cards because they stay in to the bitter end. might be going up there on Saturday though...........because I'm a gluton for punishment.

I'll be going back to Vegas at the beginning of June. Can't wait. Cleaned up on the locals last time, and I don't even consider myself very good at poker. I was just a lot more disciplined playing at a $1/$2 limit table than I would be in one of my little $.10/$.25 online tables.

I know what you're saying kev, but I would collect some big pots from old folks that would stay in with a low pair all the way to the river. Although it is frustrating consistently going down with AA and AK.

yes, on occassion, I can bring a good haul out of there. just usually have to have the nuts to win against those fools.

Lol... still remember one hand I got a high straight on the flop and bet the hell out of it all the way through the river. I had KQ and flopped 9TJ. The guy UTG called me all the way through. Turn was a Q... FUUUH. River was a K, are you serious??? The other guy had A3 off-suit.

I would have probably folded that pre-flop.

another neighborhood game tonight...This is the last tournament before the final table...
I'm currently in first, so need a solid showing tonight to build my chip count going into the final table

won the tournament and $450 bucks. That's my second wihen, so I'm in good shape for the final table...

When that one, and I get my entry fee to the WSOP paid
