Baltimore Unrest

Manslaughter. Imo- arrest was legal because of outstanding warrants. He died because of failure to restrain him safely in the van. It is starting to come together.

I can see the illegal arrest now. There was no probable cause as the knife is legal under Maryland law. Only after the fact did they find the outstanding warrants.

I am not a lawyer by trade. But this is interesting to say the least.

And I hate to admit it........but we could use more LG in this thread. Only this once though.

is that the normal wording for it? "depraved heart murder"

Same here, always heard it as 2nd degree. Reading some other on-line discussions about the charges and someone brought an interesting point that they see the charges as being inflated. Is the a strategic move to get the public to think they are "doing" and in the long run they know a jury won't convict the officers or are they hoping to force a plea deal? Also I would have to imagine they would have to move the trial location out of Baltimore city limits, no way they will get a fair shake in that city.

If he really did fall to his death, the most you could do is fire the guy responsible for not securing him.

I imagine that this will be a fight.

Yes, assembling a impartial jury for this trial will be difficult. The same can be said for requesting a change of venue.

It will be but they have to and I believe they will get it.

It's just where the prosecution tries to get the jury from. The defense will push for a middle upper class community and of course the prosecution will push for the opposite.

A longtime veteran of BaltimoreCity PD told me earlier Gray not beaten by cops, was throwing himself into walls of van, echoing Post story

BALT PD sources tell @joelwaldmanFOX ofcs "pissed", say ME switched ruling on Gray's death from accidental to homicide after "meetings

Baltimore PD sources tell @joelwaldmanFOX the sentiment within dept. is "someone had to be given up", insist Gray never assaulted

Of course they have a bias but felt it worth mentioning.

That's pretty much it.

Really... that's disappointing.

Riddle me this, Batman. Had a black man with 6 kids that he couldn't afford gone down there and beat his son on national TV, do you think we would still call him a "hero", or would we be asking how could a deadbeat dad not be more involved in his life beforehand and not prevent this in the first place?

Ohh... and breaking news. Ask yourself this. How was this mom able to find her son in the crowd in the first place? The story that was reported earlier was that she was at "work" and saw him acting up and she marched down there to get her son. Well, the truth is that SHE was involved in the rioting beforehand along with everyone else, and just so happened to catch her son in the neighborhood acting up.

So which story are you going to believe? That a single mom of 6 in the inner city just happened to be at "work" and just out of luck, she was able to pinpoint her masked son out of all of the crowds on the TV screen... or... she was on the block, caught up in the event herself, and just so happened to run into her son while she was rioting and looting herself?

Wonder if the Baltimore PD will now not be enforcing lots of laws? and then be a lack of revenue for the city.
kind of like what the NYPD did.

Oh lastly... and then I'm done.

The reason she gave for beating her son was because she didn't want her son to be another Freddie Gray and killed by the cops.

She wasn't beating him because he was out there rioting and destroying property. Its hard to teach that lesson to your kids I guess if you were out there rioting and looting 15 mins before that, though.

That's what I expect and maybe a case of blue flu to sweep the department.

There were sources saying early on saying some officers were planning to resign. I could see if they feel like their brothers and sisters are being railroaded for political purposes.

Hopefully they have to call in some reserve cops from Oklahoma
