Basketball Coaching Rumor Mill Heating Up...

- Word is that Oklahoma will offer $2 million a year to Marquette HC
Buzz Williams (Texas native) who currently makes $1.2 million.

TN Tech HC Mike Sutton has retired and associate HC Steve Payne has taken over as the new HC.

Wow. Sutton is still fighting Guillain-Barre, I believe, so this really shouldn't surprise me...but it does.

Yea it was really health-related more than anything; I know he even missed a few games this year due to his illness.

Anything on Lawrence Frank outside of what we've already heard?

More names at Tennessee include: Colorado HC Tad Boyle, Belmont HC Rick Byrd, Boston Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank, Santa Clara HC Kerry Keating, Wisconsin-Mil HC Rob Jeter, Xavier HC Chris Mack, Wichita St HC Gregg Marshall, Missouri St HC Cuonzo Martin and a series of other names that will not have any interest in the job which will be under NCAA sanctions.

I didn't really want to post these names but this is what was listed... but keep in mind it's just what one person is hearing.

What irony hiring Bruce Pearl's successor at UW-Milwaukee would be.

Thanks for the updates. Post often please.

- FGCU is down to 10 and will pay $150,000. Among those who have met
with the AD include Miami assistant Jorge Fernandez, former NY Knicks assistant Jeff Nix, former Iowa HC Todd Lickliter

- Billy Kennedy turned down the job at Wyoming. Word is the AD wouldn't give him 6-year contract and admit 4 JUCO players. ODU HC Blaine Taylor now leading candidate. Larry Shyatt and Mike Dunlap are fallbacks.

- Word is that Alabama HC Anthony Grant will be in the mix at Georgia Tech.

- Names at Missouri include Nebraska hc Doc Sadler, Billy Kennedy, Mark Gottfried and Donnie Tyndall.

I would think Nebraska's Doc Sadler would stay at NU now that they are joining the Big 10. It will allow him more national exposure and help in recruiting.

- Indian Hills CC (IA) is conducting interviews over the next few days. The names that are scheduled to interview are South Suburban College head coach John Pigatti, North Dakota assistant Bryan Martin, Lincoln College head coach Kirk Whiteman, and former Tennessee assistant Steve Forbes.

- Oral Roberts head coach Scott Sutton’s name has surfaced in connection with the Bradley search. Since Rob Jeter withdrew his name at Bradley, and Mark Montgomery took the NIU job, it appears that the Bradley administration is continuing to grind to dig up names.

Didn't specifically mention him and UT but his name appears to be out there so it would seem he's not thrilled at 'Bama.

if my Monarchs didn't lose Blaine to Stanford a few years ago, I can't see him going to Wyoming. He's turned down several other better jobs too.

Wyoming is a solid stepping stone type job, but I've never figured this rumor out either... doesn't make much sense.

I believe he's from Montana so it makes a little sense. Also heard the Utah job for him (nvm I now see you mentioned that)

I've seen a lot of names listed for Utah with St. Mary's Randy Bennett listed probably most frequently.

I'm not sure where Coach Blaine is from, but he played under Mike Montgomery at Montana and was evidently pretty good. He then became an assistant under Montgomery and while Montgomery was at the Stanford job, he eventually brought Taylor (who was HC at Montana at the time) to Stanford.

As someone who knew Taylor on a more than see him on the sidelines type thing, I don't see him leaving. He really loves the Tidewater area and he's very invested in ODU athletics in general.

he also has a very large class of freshmen and redshirts that is supposedly quite talented (for a mid major level). I don't see him as the type of guy that would leave them. If he leaves or retires, the job is pretty much already taken by asst Jim Corrigan if he hasn't finally landed a HC gig of his own and Blaine would make sure he had a team ready to play for Corrigan.

Hearing Cunzo Martin is a popular choice for the Mizzou job?

There is a ton of speculation as to who Missouri will hire. The names that have been making the rounds so far are:

Cuonzo Martin – Head Coach Missouri State. The former Purdue star and assistant is a hot commodity right now. He led MSU to a 26-9 record this past season. Is 61-41 in three seasons.

Mark Fox – Head Coach Georgia. Was a leading candidate last time around. The Kansas native led the Bulldogs to a 21-12 record this year. Was 123-43 in 5 seasons at Nevada.

Josh Pastner – Head Coach Memphis
. Many around him are saying that he’s not happy with the support at Memphis. There are rumors that the administration is trying to extend his contract to keep him there. Not sure if his interest is just a ploy to jack up the price, or if it’s legit.

Scott Sutton – Head Coach Oral Roberts. This is the second time today that his name has come up in conversation (also mentioned at Bradley). Is the all-time winningest coach in ORU history with 223 wins.

Brian Gregory – Head Coach Dayton. The former Michigan State associate head coach is 172-94 in 7 seasons at UD. Interesting fact – played 1 season at Navy (1985-86) where he was a teammate of David Robinson.

Matt Painter – Head Coach Purdue. I keep hearing his name when people talk about Missouri. He is a Purdue alum, so not sure how that factors into the decision.

Ben Jacobsen – Head Coach Northern Iowa.
He’s 109-57 in his five seasons at UNI. Most known for beating Kansas last year in the NCAA tourney (and advancing to the Sweet 16 with 30 wins).
