This is one of the most asinine statements I have seen on this board. Look up a study by the U of Minn that had four men. Two white with felony cocaine convictions and two black college students no record and all four appied for the same hundred entry level jobs. The two white men were both called back by over 30 jobs, the two black guys were called back by 12 and 14. This is one example. Maybe some are blind some are ignorant and some are just plain rascist but anyone who thinks any minority and whites live in the same world or are judged the same is wrong.

Do some schools not hire minority coaches because they are a minority? Maybe, but I doubt it's many. Most schools just want to win, whether the coach is white, black, asian, latino, etc. Is Turner Gill a good coach? Looks like he may be. Is he more qualified than any other newly-hired coaches in big schools? Sorta-kinda-maybe. His biggest year so far is 7-5. I think Auburn could have done better than either Gill or Chizik. Syracuse just brought in an NFL guy that played at Syracuse.

I don't care what the racial make-up of head coaches is. Just win.

my guess is norm chow woudl have gotten a head coaching job by now if he were white. and save me the "his personality is lousy." if charlie weis can get hired at ND any asswhipe can get a head coaching job.

As far as I know, King wanted America to be color-blind. Equal opportunities for everyone, based on qualifications. We aren't there, but it's the power-brokers on both sides (white and black) that hold us back.

Name the last time a black coach had the reigns at an Alabama, USC, Florida, et al. The record of Mike Tomlin, Tony Dungy, Lovie Smith and others at a level far more difficult to win at than D-I renders your point worthless. It's a perfect copout for spineless ADs who don't want to look like bigots to the sane world, while still appeasing their bigoted, halfwit fanbases. "A black coach failed at traditionally awful program A, so we can't think about giving one a job at a traditional power."

Do you doubt the fact that your parents had much more opportunity to make enough money to send you to college than most black kids parents? It wasn't too long ago that a black person wasn't ALLOWED the same opportunities for employment. Even now, they usually get compensated less even if they have the same qualifications. There's nothing wrong with levelling the playing field.

This is a fact:

There is no way to even begin to address that question because to few have been given the opportunity to succeed. What percentage of college football coaches are black? What percentage of college football coaches fail to deliver?

I think you will find that the percentage of minority college football coaches is much lower than the percentage of college football coaches who fail.

What does that tell us? Not enough have been given the opportunity!

Charlie Weis and his NFL Voodoo is about to wear out its welcome.

Chow is already over 60 years old. That alone may hold him back, but there's got to be more than being from Hawaii going against him.

well at this point sure he's too old, but the guy was a very well known OC for years at BYU. he was the logical choice to replace edwards and shockingly that didn't happen.

Whites get more "government hand outs" than blacks. Look at welfare numbers. This is a statement ignorant people always make during discussions on race. Blacks get "Government handouts" but if you actually did research and saw the programs for rural mostly white people and combined with lower income urban and suburban whites they get way more "goverment handouts". Trying to get an equal chance is not looking for a handout.

Qualified for a job doesn't always mean that they are the best fit. Turner Gill has 1 good season at Buffalo. I agree that Gill should have gotten the job over Chizik but not because of his stellar resume. Charlie Strong would be a better example. Your last question has nothing to do with my post. Of course I realize they have been coaching longer than 10 years. WTF?? My point was that there has been more opportunity for black coaches in the last 20 years. You're seeing more young black men focus on coaching due to those opportunities that haven't always been there. There are a host of young black coordinators and position coaches who will be looked at for HC vacancies as they become more experienced and proven.

gill was 5-7 last year and won 3 games the year before. i;d say he had more than one decent season considering the turd he inherited
