Bobby Petrino Lovers' Thread

is picking up momentum.

Just this week both Jimmy Hyams and John Pennington have more or less endorsed Bobby Petrino. They both said if the decision was theirs to make they would hire Petrino.

While I dont respect his opinion nearly as much as Jimmy Hyams, Will West is also a fan of offerinng the job to Petrino.

I think when and if Gruden officially turns us down, even more folks are going to come around to the idea of Petrino.

Say what you want about his personal demons, I for one feel like Hyams in that Petrino is a more proven winner in college football.

Seems like over the last 10 days or so, we have went from 99% of callers saying "HELL NO" to quite a few saying they want Petrino if we cant get Gruden.
Arkansas fan Imo.

I'm not saying the man is a bad coach, I just don't think many recruits would come here if he were to be hired. I could imagine a lot of moms of recruits wouldn't want him to be their kids coach.

I may have been able to stay with you until the point you said you respect Hymns opinion

Local radio down here reported that there was an unwritten agreement with the SEC that Petrino would not be a coach in the SEC in 2013. A one year penalty of some sort. Any truth to this or was bama homer radio trying to quell any Petrino to Auburn rumors?

1. Gruden

2. Gruden

3. Petrino
4. Patterson
5. Golden
6. Strong
7. Willie Mack Garza
8. Jimbo Fisher
9. Kirby Smart
10. Hugh Freeze

Petrino despite his baggage would be a better hire than someone like Golden.

My list in order is:

Gruden
Petersen
Strong
Patterson
Petrino

Of course I would like some other coaches like Gundy for example, but that is my list of hires I think we have a chance at. People like Golden don't belong on Tennessee's list.

Not this again. Petrino is not going to be the coach at UT or any other SEC team this year, zero chance. Its Gruden and like Boro,GMan and a few others have said there will be who knows how many names leaked before Gruden is announced. And even if its not Gruden no chance in hell its Petrino. UT is not ready to absorb the backlash from fans, media and everywhere else. Zero chance

Gruden may or may not come, depending on your fantasy.

Patterson and Petersen aren't coming. Ditto Carroll, Harbaugh and the two Kellys. Stoops is doubtful.

Three solid SEC schools are competing for the next-level down options-- Strong, Fisher, Golden, Davis, Dabo-- most of whom VN would consider a letdown.

Then you have the UK prospects and UT rejects-- Dykes, Fulmer, Cutcliffe.

Kirby Smart or Dooley are Hart's preferences.

Tressel is under show-cause.

See why Petrino is picking up steam?

Patterson would probably be number two and a very good chance he would take the job. It doesnt matter its going to be Gruden according to the few reliables on here and Gruden is picking up more steam everywhere. Peterson your right no way he leaves but Patterson definitely would.

I'm hearing SEC AD's are black balling him...Meaning no team in the SEC is going to go after him...Just a rumor but it makes sense.

Exactly right as is Slive. Tony Barnhart was on Finebaum and said the exact same thing. It originally started with AU and Petrino rumors and he said zero chance he coach's AU, TN or any other SEC team. Thought possibly an opening out west like possibly Cal or a lower tier type school. Cal is a good job and not the easiest school to get into so im not sure they would hire someone like him. He wont have many high quality jobs atleast not right now.

You may be right or wrong, but this vol fan will not be judging the first SEC school to hire him.
As a matter of fact, I'll be the first one on here to congratulate the school on becoming relevant again.

Petrino to me, is a high risk, high reward hire. The guy can make your football team very competitive in a relatively short period of time, and with Tennessee's vast resources, I think he could be a real winner.

Obviously, he's a scumbag, but I don't really give two ***** about the morality of coaches. As long as he wins, all is well.
