Bobby Petrino Lovers' Thread

Same thing Dooley did to Tech.

People don't like the whole "he left a note" thing. I could care less. A coach can be fired anytime for anything. A coach should be able to leave at anytime for anything.

Yeah if the only reason people do not like him is he left Atlanta in the middle of the night they are crazy. The palyers he left there are paid to do a job.

A coach leaving or being fired will not stop NCAA issues or them investigating things, just ask UT. If there is truth to the "rumors", the NCAA would be dealing with it. Petrino had off the field problems that alot of people deal with. He had no NCAA problems.

No, he didn't have NCAA problems (yet). He had University problems. His hiring of a mistress to an athletic dept position, and then lying about it, put the university in a bad position legally. We can argue that Sandusky didn't have NCAA problems, but they sure dropped the hammer on him and more importantly the university. While I in no way am implying that BP's issues were anywhere as despicable or significant as Sandusky's, the point is that no administrator will willingly sign off on BP without the most stringent set of controls possible. He may have to have an ankle monitor/GPS tracker, 24/7 video feed of his house and car (no motorcycles allowed), weekly random drug/alcohol testing, and a nightly curfew at Jimmy Cheek's house.

Then why bring it up? You are not being realistic if you think anyhting Petrino did is anywhere near as bad as what Sandusky did. There is a reason why Sandusky is in prison and Petrino was only fired.

What he did goes on every day and whether it is right or wrong it certianly is not a crime.

I would think at this point he would be willing to sign any contract so the university could protect themselves with clauses in his contract to protect them from issues he has had in the past such as large buyouts if he leaves for another job.

I'm pretty sure I said that. It is not the same in severity (AT ALL), and Sandusky should be put on a rail splitter and then left to rot for his actions. I'm surprised he hasn't been shanked already.

It was not a criminal matter, but a civil one that brought him down. Remember, he was not fired for having an affair or lying (again and again). He was fired for exposing the University of Arkansas - not just the athletic department, but the entire university - to an enormous legal issue or two. We'll start with sexual harassment lawsuits, just for grins and giggles. The university MIGHT have had a suitable defense under Title VII and Federal Discrimination laws, but that is not a guarantee. It was enough that the university paid JDorrell a 5-figure settlement payment to go away after the affair was brought to light. Regardless, the reputation and integrity of the Athletic Department and University would have been harmed irrevocably.

He may be willing to sign virtually any contract, and maybe he will sign one this year. However, are we really so desperate for wins that we are willing to sign a perpetual liar that has never stayed in a job long enough to matter? Do you think he is he the ONLY coach that can do the job? Really?

We will just have to agree to disagree.

I am in no means saying he should be choice number one but if we have to go down the list he should be considered.

screw strong golden and all these other coaches. Petrino is a winner. who cares about the baggage?! seriously who cares! It'd be nice to win for once!

If Patterson told me NO at 4.5 million/year for 5 years, I would offer Petrino 2.5 million and roll with him TODAY. People won't like it at 1st, but will come around when he starts winning. 1st big upset he pulls and all the past stuff will be forgot. He has won in the SEC and is the best value available. Allow him 1.25 million for each of his coordinators and let's look toward 2013 as better days.

Say what you want the reasons to hire Petrino are undeniable.

1) The man wins, 75-26 record.
2) Due to his recent history, he will not demand big time money. With Dooleys buyout, this will lessen the financial impact.
3) Also with his recent history, you can bet he is hungry and eager to put it behind him. Also, with his past, he will be on his best behavior.
4) His coaching staff is mostly complete and will be freed up once Arkansas cut John L loose.
5) Bray, Hunter, and Patterson will most likely leave unless they have a reason to stay. With Petrino, they would most likely realize that staying would greatly improve their draft stock.

I know the guy has had his issues but we don't need a pen pal or fishing buddy. We need a proven coach and I believe the choice is very clear.

If not Gruden, yes to Petrino. :good!:

According to
@HogCountryUA: Multiple sourcex in Knoxville confirm Bobby Petrino deal in principle. Sources say 6 years, $33 million

Even if we did sign BP, no chance he is paid that much unless Hammy is back as AD. He would make more in the range of $3 mill per year.

No chance. Get back to pettin your pig and dreamin about what could have been this year if your coach knew how to ride a motorcycle.
