Bobby Petrino Lovers' Thread

Not this again. Petrino is not going to be the coach at UT or any other SEC team this year, zero chance. Its Gruden and like Boro,GMan and a few others have said there will be who knows how many names leaked before Gruden is announced. And even if its not Gruden no chance in hell its Petrino. UT is not ready to absorb the backlash from fans, media and everywhere else. Zero chance

Gruden is not coming. Get real

Petrino may win here if we hire him....may even when an SEC title...but mark my words, whenever he leaves, he'll leave Neyland Stadium in flames.

Actually while you are entitled to your opinion, I would like to clarify one thing.

Bobby Petrino is not a cheater. At least not in a football sense. He has ZERO NCAA ISSUES!

Thanks for the clarification of cheater....well at least he only cheats on his wife and I guess if she gave him a 2nd chance maybe we should too? Do you beleive in 3rd chances?

Patterson would probably be number two and a very good chance he would take the job. It doesnt matter its going to be Gruden according to the few reliables on here and Gruden is picking up more steam everywhere. Peterson your right no way he leaves but Patterson definitely would.

You never know, but I doubt we can or will pay Patterson what it would take to get him to leave TCU. TCU can match our offer, Arky can beat it, and in the end, he'll probably stay right where he is, since he has a cushy job in a conference he can win. All this interest should give him a nice pay bump, though.

You know, I used to be down on this Petrino thing, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. I mean, why pay a coach 50 million dollars to compete for championships when, for about half that, you can get a coach who can finish 2nd or 3rd in your division each year and will leave your program in shambles at some point in the future? That's solid Knoxville economics right there.

Petrino despite his baggage would be a better hire than someone like Golden.

My list in order is:

Gruden
Petersen
Strong
Patterson
Petrino

Of course I would like some other coaches like Gundy for example, but that is my list of hires I think we have a chance at. People like Golden don't belong on Tennessee's list.

I like this list but would probably swap Petrino with Strong. For those saying our recruiting will suffer I don't get your point. Have you taken a look at our current recruiting? I would venture to say it would improve with any of the guys on the list above and I think they are all tremendous upgrades when it comes to coaching and development.

What makes me laugh is that IF by chance UT does hire Petrino, If he leads us back to the promised land and wins a couple of SEC titles and gets us into some BCS bowls all the people on here that ran their mouths about him and didn't want him will be singing his praises and be soooo happy We gave him a 2nd chance...Yes that is exactly what will happen, try to deny it or not.

Will also be interesting to hear all those defending him come out and talk after He puts us on probation.

Please explain to me why, if BP is such a great catch, Arkansas thought it best to let him go? If he is such hot bleep, why they are not interested in him now? They could have just suspended him for the year, but he was fired. Why do you think they did that?

If you are looking for one quantifiable reason, I'm not sure there is one.

My personal opinion is that is was a knee-jerk reaction by the AD, but that is only my opinion.

Same reason we fired Bruce Pearl. Sometimes you just have to cut a man loose. With most things involving the idea of "scandal" at a university, the school is better off cutting ties and moving forward. Petrino's issues were personal and not with the NCAA. He has no pending NCAA issues. He is a proven winner looking for a job. If the next school can look past his off the field stuff, they could land the best coach available this year.

Find me evidence that says Petrino had issues with the NCAA.

Ill hang up and listen.....

He will not be able to. What kills me if for instance Patterson were hired the same fans criticizing Petrino for leaving a job in the middle of the night would be expecting Patterson to do the same thing.

What Petrino did is no different than what Saban did to LSU and Miami. Does anyone talk about that now or how he wins.

Same thing Dooley did to Tech.

People don't like the whole "he left a note" thing. I could care less. A coach can be fired anytime for anything. A coach should be able to leave at anytime for anything.

Lots of stuff out there about Arkansas being really close to getting in serious trouble had they not axed Petrino. Tony Barnhart said lots of really dirty NCAA stuff behind the scenes.

Disappointed. Thread title is misleading. Thought I was gonna read about Petrinos lovers

A coach leaving or being fired will not stop NCAA issues or them investigating things, just ask UT. If there is truth to the "rumors", the NCAA would be dealing with it. Petrino had off the field problems that alot of people deal with. He had no NCAA problems.

Mel Kiper, Jr. was just talking about UT and the other guy brought up James Franklin. He said if he could do what hes done at Candy then he would excel at a school like UT with the advantages we have over Candy. Mel said He would get Petrino because he is a great football coach and would do great at UT.

I don't want either except maybe Petrino if all good hires fall thru. It was nice to hear the two ESPN guys speak about UT in a way that says a good coach would do great here.
