I feel sorry for the athletes. In many cases they've worked their entire lives to participate, and now not only will only their families be the only ones watching them "live" (not in person, they just stayed up to watch) but if they win, there will be a "zoom call" with the NBC announcer who's here in the US. The IOC is garbage.

she can stay there for good

What exactly is the problem here? She becomes an enemy of the state if she decides to represent her Mother's country? This idea that the Chinese are our enemy to the point that half-Chinese Americans have to pick us or them is just ridiculous. Or that her American sponsors would need to drop her because this is so controversial? Give me a break.

Obviously, there are a billion people in China and making yourself more visible to Asian market is a no-brainer business decision for her. She seems like a nice, smart kid. In the Olympic spirit, good luck to her.

You say this on a board of people who boos Henry To'oTo'o for switching from UT to Alabama and you cant understand why people would be upset that an AMERICAN, born and raised here, would go play for CHINA in a contest between nations? If you cant get that at a gut level, I cannot help you understand. But I will tell you that it is thinking like that, is why people went meekly into the gas chambers. Be hopeful you will not live in a time when China may become dominant.

The minimizing of monster that is China, is utterly amazing.

Beijing Genocide Games Official Says Athletes Will Be Punished for Criticizing China

That is Tiananmen Square. I have been there. Look way back in the picture and you can see 3 'light' poles that have horizontal members near the top. They are COVERED with cameras pointing in every conceivable direction. I'll look and see if I can find one in my pictures somewhere.

That's what the left wants here.

I don't understand grown-ass men hating a young man for not demonstrating undying loyalty to their favorite school and making the best decision for his future. WTF to the rest of it.

Who has minimized anything in this thread?

Some people are able to separate the Chinese government from China. If Olympians were just representing their governments, then Americans shouldn't be proud to represent the USA. Thank God it's about much more than government.

Don’t let common sense stand in the way of that snowboard performance, or whatever she does.

The Chinese are literally using these events to showcase themselves to the world. It’s all fraudulent and choosing to represent their flag means you are a participant in the fraud.

Hence the operative word "if". This whole time I've been talking to people expressing disdain for her.

they might not be wrong. She covets some stupid medal, or perhaps less, just for a chance to be an Olympian regardless of when, where, who, or what it involves.

I don’t feel myself qualified to judge someone who has dedicated every day of their life for a decade or more to getting to an event where a couple of minutes determine if they achieve their life goal or not, they had no choice on where the IOC chose to have the games. I do 💯 blame the IOC though for rewarding a regime of genocidal leftist THUGS with these games, all in exchange for advertising and kickback $$$$$$$

I can buy that. That said, I am sure her sport has a governing body that has a league and/or championships she can choose as competitions. Also, she has the choice to compete at the Olympics as an American. Can’t make that team? Oh well.

I remember when my 1980s basketball hero Los Angeles Laker Kurt Rambis wasn’t selected for the IS Olympic team and decided to compete for his ancestral homeland of Greece. I had no problem with that. You are not being disloyal to your country as long as you don’t badmouth it or permanently shift your citizenship
