Bracketmatrix 2021-22

I don’t get the Wisconsin move, prior to Saturday's games we had been holding ahead of them for awhile…since then we beat Auburn at home and Georgia on the road, they beat Rutgers on the road and Purdue at home. I agree Rutgers > Georgia, but Auburn is also > Purdue, yet they vaulted up?
I just looked at the Top 10 ranked brackets that have been updated since, and only 1 had Wisconsin over us on the seed line. A few still had Purdue as a 2, and a couple had TTU moving over Purdue onto the 2 line

I still will take that outcome, it raises our ceiling without changing our floor much. We went from a 3 seed to a 3 seed 🤷🏻‍♂️
True, I mean in all reality we control our own destiny on Saturday and then the SEC tourney. Win Saturday and the first game of the SEC tourney and I think 3 seed is a guaranteed floor.

Why would the region prevent them from going to Greenville for 1st/2nd round?
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but teams playing in Greenville would be in the East and South Region. The 1st/2nd round games in the Midwest region are held in San Diego, Buffalo, Milwaukee, and Indianapolis. So I’m assuming Duke would be playing in Indianapolis for the 1st/2nd round games if they’re sent to the Midwest.

It doesn't necessarily work that way. They are independent Duke could play in Greenville but in the San Francisco region.

Something to note... Seth Davis reported yesterday that Duke has requested to be placed in the Midwest Regional (Chicago) instead of the East (Philly). Chicago is Coach K’s hometown and that’s where the school has requested to go. So if that’s the case, Duke will not be in the Greenville region of the bracket. But, the request is only granted to the overall number 1 seed. The rest will follow original bracketing principles. But let’s watch and see if the committee finds a way to place Duke in Chicago while following the principles.
They'll need to be at least a 2 seed to have much of a preference. And, technically be higher on the seed list than other teams who would likely prefer Chicago (Kansas, Kentucky, Auburn). Of course the committee can do what they want, but I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they were to move Duke up the seed list just to accommodate Coach K.

Hmm.. so the locations inside each region can change and they’re not fixed bc I don’t see how they can play in Greenville unless a that site is in the Midwest portion of the bracket. That’s the one part of the bracketing I get a little mixed up on

They bracket the top 4 teams in s-curve order to their respective regions. So if Gonzaga is #1 overall, they get their choice - San Francisco. And then through 4. For 2 seeds they will try to get them to their preferred region but preference is given based on their position on the seed .list . However there are other consideriations like balancing the strength of the bracket. The committee won't put the #5 overall seed in the same region as #1. In that case, if Duke is the last #2 seed, they are likely going to be headed to San Fran considering the other teams on the 2 line. After the top 4 seed lines are placed on the bracket, then they assign 1st/2nd round sites. They go down the seed list for this too. So Gonzaga get's their first choice - Portland, and then they go down the list. Currently everyone above Duke except for Auburn have sites that are closer to them than Greenville. So when they get to Duke, they'd get Greenville. Hence, Greenville 1st/2nd round and San Fran regional. This is technically how it works, however the committee gives themselves wiggle room to make deviations from this which they do every year. Sometimes makes no sense.

Duke can give their preference of being in Chicago, only meaning when it comes to down to Duke and if both Chicago and Philly are still available, they don't want the committee to use distance which is what they do by default, they're giving their preference of Chicago.

I understand that aspect of it but if they are placed in the Midwest, how can they still play in Greenville when that location is only in the East and South portions of the bracket. Wouldn’t they have to choose between the 4 sites available in the Midwest region? Like you said, Gonzaga would choose Portland which is in the West part of the bracket where they would be placed. If Duke had their preference of playing in Greenville, they would play their S16/E8 games in the East or South correct? We might be talking about 2 different things haha

The first and second round sites are completely independent of the regions

Okay I gotcha now. I was just looking at the brackets and I just assumed that the first and second round sites were fixed in place in every region already.

It's quite possible you could see Duke in Greenville be in the San Fran region and Texas Tech in San Diego playing in the Philly region

Yeah, @golfballs answered it. The 1st and 2nd round sites used to be tied to regions. But they did away with that several years ago. Any 1st round site can be in any of the 4 regions.

Depending on how Tennessee closes out the season with Wins/Losses, a semi-realistic (but low probability) bracket I would love to see us draw is:

#1 Baylor
#2 Tennessee
#3 Wisconsin
#4 Providence

Baylor is very good, but I think their injuries will catch up to them eventually and it’s so hard to repeat. Obviously, drawing Providence and Wisconsin would be desirable for many clear reasons.

I can go ahead and tell you that Providence would not beat Arizona on a neutral floor. If it wasn’t for the insane stretch we had to start the game vs Arizona, I don’t know if we come out of that game with a win. I’m not saying we can’t beat them again, but they definitely would scare me a little on a neutral floor given that they feel like they got the short end of the stick in that game.
Arizona can be hot and cold on offense as Tennessee. What i have seen if Providence i just see them as more hungry and playing better

With the general seeding being the weakest 2 vs the strongest 1, does the strongest 3 also land in that region?

I don't see enough help in that matrix to get us to #2 this week.

Hoping our play in SECT and help next week gets us to #2, but it may depend on UT winning the T.

Wisconsin had a home win over Purdue and it moved them all the way up to 2. Arkansas is not Purdue, but they were a few spots behind us. I think we could move up to 2 with a win. We'd be firmly in 2 seed territory in the NET and Team Sheet Ranks, I'd think.
