We're going the cheap route. Instead of taking our time and spending money that I know we have. We decide to go cheap with Martin, just like Hamilton always does. This mediocrity at its best. Im disgusted.

Look I can understand hiring an up and comer, I would be all for that. But Martin wasn't even a hot name out there. We had money to get the coach we really wanted, but instead we take the diamond in the rough approach again. I just dont see us doing well under this guy. You can hate on me all you want, but im just stating my opinion.

I like the fact that he played Division 1 basketball at a high level making the elite 8, but with only 3 years as a head coach he could have just been fortunate and inherited some good players for a couple years.

that's true, but how do you go from Jamie Dixon, Jay Wright and evn L Frank to Martin...

The best thing about the hire is now Cheeks can cut bait with Hambone....

Hopefully no later than Wednesday

Not much difference in the classification of those two programs compared to Missouri State, right? Same type of schools really even though Missouri State might be a bit better program than those two.

I watched it on line. They gave us a hell of a fight in the first round of the NIT here in K'town. We had to make some clutch free throws down the stretch to hold them off by four. This win came at a time when we were building toward some of our best play of the season when we won the NIT by beating VCU and Villanova.

I do not have any specific recollections about thoughts on the coach, I must confess. I remember thinking that these guys just wouldn't go away as the close score indicates.

This hire definitely comes from left field, but so did the Bruce Pearl hire 6 years ago. We have no choice but to wait and see so, let's wait and see.

Pearl had just made the sweet 16 with Milwaukee and was one of the hottest coaches available. I think the general feeling is, we could have done better. Not that Martin won't be a good coach, just that UT could have found a more proven, respected coach.

Whether you like the hire or hate the hire only time will tell if it's a good one or not.. One thing for sure though CCM deserves a warm welcome. Regardless of what anyone think's of Hamilton and the hire CCM doesn't deserve to get bashed.

Respect is something you earn, he's made one trip to the NCAA tournament as a Head Coach and is 1-1. Most people dont know much about him, just like we don't.

I'm starting to wonder if UT is as great a hire in Division I as we all like to think it is. Doesn't seem to me we have very many big time names flocking for our job openings here recently. This hire is a prime example of that. Mike Hamilton just served Vol Nation up a great big slice of humble pie...

Sure glad they didn't hold out for a guy going to the final 4, Like the VCU or Butler coach. Man, I'm sure we COULDN'T have waited one more week! They should fire Hamilton before they introduce the new coach. They fart around a whole year before giving Bruce the az and they can't wait 1 more week? This sounds like decisions worthy of being made in Congress.

reality is a *****,,,,,most of the sought after coaches were not coming to UT.....i'm a bit surprised martin is coming since he seemed a lock to go to missouri......maybe he will change his name to frank.......

I just hate the fact that we come up with unrealistic list of top quality candidates with the like of Dixon, Wright, and even Frank. Yet, we end up hiring a "diamond in the rough" with Martin. It was a quick and cheap hire, which is all Hamilton is good for. Im done getting my hopes up for a splash type hire. Im willing to get behind Martin being the Tennessee fan that I am, but im just disappointed. All I can say is I hope he proves me wrong.
