The edit button is down toward the bottom if you want to use it....just saying

I'm not saying this isnt a good hire. I'm saying I think we expected UT to bring in someone with more experience, more proven. No one knows how this guy will work, he's only been a head coach for 3 years not a large body of work to draw on. I would have to liked to have seen UT hire a guy who had at least made the sweet 16.

Respect is something you earn, he's made one trip to the NCAA tournament as a Head Coach and is 1-1. Most people dont know much about him, just like we don't.

Math isn't my forte but I'm thinking in one trip you're either 1-0 or 0-1.:eek:hmy:

Your right math isn't your forte. He won the first game and lost the second game, making him 1-1 in NIT tournament games.

Not much difference in the classification of those two programs compared to Missouri State, right? Same type of schools really even though Missouri State might be a bit better program than those two.

..............But Tennessee is not the same program either. The top caliber players are I mean, were considering Tennessee as a possibility. Now we will see if the momentum can be retained. Up to this hire, the momentum killing is CBP. Will this hire help retain the momentum prior to the transgressions? We will see.

What I see is a guy who took a program that couldn't line up in the KIL to a 26-9 record in three years. I didn't expect a "name" coach and the guys I was really interested in are still playing in the tourney. I like the idea of an up-and-comer even if I REALLY wanted the guy from Butler.

I do like his version of the Tubby Smith yeller-eyed, "Give me one good reason to not kill you right now" stare.

One other thing in his favor: every whiny-a**ed d*ckweed on here right now complaining also told us all Bruce Pearl would never have a winning record in the SEC.

I'm willing to give him a year or three and see what he can do.

Welcome, Coach.

Missouri State finished 11-20 in 2008-09 and improved to 24-12 in 2009-10.

I found this statistic very interesting. I'm not disappointed in this hire at all. He has a lot of work to do, but he's got my support.

Pearl had just made the sweet 16 with Milwaukee and was one of the hottest coaches available. I think the general feeling is, we could have done better. Not that Martin won't be a good coach, just that UT could have found a more proven, respected coach.

Very well said.

he could have just been fortunate and inherited some good players for a couple years.

I wish you could have seen Mizzou State in his first year. Played my alma mater and I can promise you that he wasn't left with many good players.

Sure sounds like a bunch of football posters are in the hoops forum. Didn't I hear a bunch about a low key, low expectation stuff about coach Dooley last year?

Since Cuonzo Martin coached a team with one and two star recruits for three years while taking the program to heights not seen since 1999. I can say he was a heckuva hire. Missouri Sate will return four of five starters including the conference player of the year. Dock the university points for not extending his contract or resigning him.

UT gets a coach who knows defense, how to milk the last drop of effort out of his players and doesn't tolerate slackers. At Missouri St. the best players, not the most talented saw the most minutes. His last two teams went 24-12 and 26-9.

Martin has connections in the Big Ten and Missouri Valley areas. He's the fifth head coach from the Gene Keady tree following, Bruce Weber, Steve Lavin, Kevin Stallings and Matt Painter.

Do the research and prepare to reap the benefits. Doubters stick around and watch the program rise again.

I agree and believe this to be a good hire.

Don't expect much from the regulars here though. Reading this board is like reading a well tenured email account... hard to find worthwhile contributions in all the SPAM (idiotic posts).

This. I posted a statistic a couple minutes ago. He came to a team that was just bad. 11-20 in 08-09, and improved to 20-11 in 09-10. That's pretty freakin good.

So CCM took two * players and beat other 2* players! Where's the big accomplishment in this? With Fulmer's buyout, Pearl's buyout, an unusually large assistants salary under kiffin, Hammy had to go cheap. This program needed a big splash hire to keep it relevant, and we got bargain basement results. I hope for the best for Martin, but hammy's got to go. Gotta stop now and take a blood pressure pill!!

good character? oh no, we are doomed.......lets see what harris and hopson do along with the 2 recruits.......

And I will be completely behind this guy and rooting for him, but for the life of me, I don't see why we hired him.

Because, no one else wanted to take a job at an upper mid level program that's about to be on probation. Some of you talk like Pearl won a NC or something! Yes, he improved the program, but it's still far from a destination job.
