Bruce Feldman and Tim Brando criticize the SEC's handling of LSU/Florida

I'll go ahead and tell you what happened and what the deal is....IMO... from everything I can make out.

Florida could not play the game at home this weekend, despite what a lot of people are discussing now. A lot of evacuees were staying in Gainesville. No one knew what the damage was going to be from the storm and the amount of first responders that would be needed across the state. After the fact, we know it could have been done. But, it could not have been done at the time a call had to be made.

BUT, Florida was not, under any circumstances going to play this game in Baton Rouge and give up a home game. That was not going to happen.

AND, LSU, was willing to do several things in order to play the game this past weekend, BUT, they are not, under any circumstances, willing to play the game any other time of the year.

And that's where the head butting is.

So, is Florida wrong for not wanting to give up a home game? Is LSU wrong for not wanting to play the game at another time?

Depends which dog you have in the hunt.

But, my guess is this is what occurred and is currently occurring.

And both sides have sound, and yes selfish, reasons for standing their ground.

Oh My Dear Lawd, how about Florida had every opportunity to play this game and knew they had to play this game and did everything in their power to not play this game? Get a clue, someone at the heart of the decision making process for this game decided it wasn't in florida's best interest to play it. What more do you want?

Get a clue, really?
What evidence do we have of the actual discussion?
We can look at how the weather turned out and think about how we once played LSU on a Monday and how SCar hosted UGA yesterday, and we can conclude that UF should have played LSU over the past couple of days, and that's fine, but the conclusion that Foley made a decision solely to increase their ATL odds sounds like us being homers.

We are having to play our 4 toughest conference games in 4 weeks. And that was the way the conference set our original schedule. LSU is complaining that they can not change their schedule because it will make them play too many tough games in a row. I guess that it is ok to complain if you are a "privileged program."

They're being petty because they can.
Unless the Commish puts his foot down regarding the makeup date (and I don't know how much power he has), the schools will just go back and forth with their petty demands.

Fact: Florida and LSU talked about this game days before the storm.

Fact: The commissioner knew of talks and decided to let the schools work it out for themselves.

Fact: LSU gave Florida MULTIPLE outs and options and even offered to fund the changes.

Fact: Every other florida game (even the high school games) got played.

Fact: Florida said it would not benefit our school to play the game and so we decline to play the game.

From SEC Commissioners Regulations, Interrupted Game Procedures, Section 2: Authority

Authority to delay or relocate a contest is vested with the home institutions Athletics Director or designated senior level administrator. Authority to suspend a contest is vested with the officials. Authority to cancel, postpone, or terminate a contest is vested only with the Commissioner or his/her designee.

So there you have it. It is totally up to Sankey 100%. If he says play it it must be played or the involved institutions are in violation of the SEC bylaws.

So the fate of the game is in that idiot Sankey's hands and only his hands. That doesn't make me feel any better from what I've seen out of him thus far.

Edit: Delay is defined as delay the contest until a later time on the same date. Postpone is to defer the starting time to a later date.

ONLY Sankey could allow this to play out as it has played out.

Edit2: To cancel a contest is to nullify either before or after it begins and to make no provision for rescheduling it or for including its score or other performance statistics in Conference records.

So if it's cancelled it's as if it was never scheduled. And then div champs go to percentages of Recorded Contests!

I'll even go one further...there were reports of an official statement about the game and how it would be handled coming out on wed...then it got pushed back...then it got pushed back again....then it got pushed back to the next day....then it got pushed back again....then it got pushed back again.....then it got pushed back again......this continued all the way until the very last second. All the while Florida was stalling.... FACT. It was obvious this was done with intent.

Nothing in your above post is evidence of bad faith by Florida.

I have no issue with saying the SEC mishandled this.
But, you're throwing in the part about stalling and intent.
To be fair, I have heard the same on Knoxville radio. If enough people say it, it becomes 'fact'.

I just put this info in the other thread

Bad faith involves dishonesty/fraud/intent to deceive.
We can speculate that they used the hurricane to weasel out of playing LSU in the hopes of sneaking into ATL at 6-1. But, that's us speculating.

If they do go to ATL - i wont even watch it and i hope the TV ratings are so low SEC sponsors cancel their contracts because of Sankey

An interesting determination from my post above to. Joe Alleva's press conference today about Nov 19 is complete crap. He does not have that authority. Only the commissioner. Now if Sankey makes a decision that causes LSU harm (forcing him to choose which game to play for example) then one would guess there is basis for a legal suit. But that would be after the fact.

Talk of anyone gaming the system is just rumors.
We have spent a lot of time chatting about how UF doesn't want this game, so they can increase their ATL odds. A counter-argument is that UF would not want to lose their only decent home game this year. Where's the evidence that UF acted in bad faith?

No alternative time, date, or location has been received, if we are to believe LSU. I am not saying LSU is lying but not a soul has countered.

Gaming the system is an opinion, kind of like when someone is convicted of something or found liable for something, its an opinion. Of course, this won't be going to a jury. I stated it back on Tuesday that they didn't want to play, I'm not smart... wild guess on my part I imagine.

The game was obviously not important last week, I fail to see the importance this week. If it means so much to have a L or W, just give LSU the L.

I tell you what I would call it. A criminal act against the SEC, LSU, and University of Tennessee and I would be looking into it as such.

I can't help but laugh every time you suggest LSU forfeit a football game. It's difficult to take the rest of the post seriously when you continuousy throw it out there that LSU should forfeit the game. The best was when you suggested that LSU choose a bye week ahead of Bama over playing UF if it comes to that.

The alternate is the hurt LSU worse, or most probably worse as one game does not make a season. Another part is principles as well, why submit to an organization that doesn't want to admit fault i.e. SEC.

Its an easy solution. I said this was bizarre last Wednesday morning, its down right pathetic right now. You say its difficult to take... but this is already a virtual loss for LSU currently, or in part, or depending how the season unfolds.

He's only doing it to illicit an emotional response from our fan base. That's it. He is only here to get giggles from stirring the pot.

Not at all. I'm dead serious, there are threads on LSU boards saying the same thing. F the SEC. But you can think whatever you want. Funny no game has been rescheduled yet.

I am just looking forward to seeing Guice play this weekend, I have little doubt Southern Miss shows up.

Forfeiting the UF game hurts LSU more than losing a bye week. This is becoming hysterical.

UF is not going to dictate when they play. It's as simple as that, LSU has no intention of agreeing to anything. So, I guess the SEC can change all these teams schedule and roll the dice. I believe LsU has given 2-3 dates to play.
