Unfortunately, after seeing our games so far, I don't see us winning another game this year except maybe Kentucky. We won't be able to handle anybody that's left on the schedule. I see a string of embarrassments during October and some close (or possibly decisive) beatings the rest of the way.
I hope that Coach Jones surprises me, but I just don't see it. We haven't gotten better in any aspect of the game since the opener as far as I can tell. If there has been any, it's marginal at best. Perhaps you could argue that at least we're coming up with some turnovers, but I chalk that up more to the other teams making mistakes and giving us some "gifts" than to us making big plays.
I am praying for better days ahead. I really like Coach Jones, but we haven't seen any real results yet. A 7 point win, at home, against a Sun Belt Conference team that has only had a football team for a few years is bad. There is no spinning this any other way.
Tennessee has the best fans in the country because there is no way that any other fan base in college football would remain as dedicated as we do in the face of these kinds of results.
I share your assessment. There's a mixture of problems at the moment. The talent is most glaring to fans but youth, lack of knowledge in this system, lack of players
for this system, and "staff issues" are also present. It's gonna take a while to figure these out.
L - UGA - I just hope we can cover the spread which I'd guess at UGA (-21)
L - USC - I believe Shaw got hurt. I don't know much about his replacement. I just hope we don't make him a Heisman candidate like we've done lately with back-up qbs.
L - @ Mizzou with a healthy James Franklin? This game could actually get ugly if our defense is on the field most of the game. If Mizzou's D shows up, I'm not sure we win this one.
L - Auburn has been recruiting at a higher level than us the past 5yrs and is better athletically across the field. On talent alone we're an underdog in this one.
L - Vandy has better QB & WR play than us and I think we'll have trouble keeping up.
W - @ UK - This is winnable if the team hasn't quit. This will be the game where we determine the team's character. Will they quit like 2yrs ago?
Having witnessed the product on the field through 1/3rd of the season, this is my expectation for the remainder of the year. If this team can exceed 4-8, I'll consider it a step in the right direction, file this away as year zero, and hope for 6 Ws next year, 7or8 wins in year 3, etc. I thought we'd easily beat USA but we aren't much worse than where I thought we would be. If anything I hope this game tempered fan base expectations
